Thank you! I got my start in plastic models actually and I still enjoy building them even now. I also find a lot of inspiration from plastic modeling as a whole.
I’m kit bashing my Mirage into an Atlas Cheetah C ( number 370 SAAF flag scheme) very similar to the Kfir just better looking lol. Very excited to have found this series given my plans.
The green is beautiful! I love this color choice which I wouldn't think I would have considering the original out of the box colors were so great as it was already. Great job. And I love the smaller tanks it looked much better than the original ones
Nice video.. I was never good at painting.. But I've learned a lot from these paint videos.. I'll video my FMS P-40B when I paint it to show my work.. Thanks
Chris, great video, but what concerns me is that the Humbrol enamel paints are not foam safe. How did you prevent seepage to areas not covered with the acrylic undercoat Thanks
It wasn’t an issue at all. The airframe is epo foam which is extremely resilient to solvents. I’ve used all kinds of paint mediums on epo foam including some lacquers to success. The areas I carved from Home Depot foam, reacted in a couple small areas to the primer (applied too wet), so where that happened I refilled and sealed with poly and that took care of it.
Hey Chris, what is the best way to remove the stock decals? I began my project earlier this week and really struggled with removing the decals. Some came up ok, others pulled some foam off as well. Thanks.
Are these sticky back stickers you’re pulling up or water slide decals? The water slides don’t usually come up all that easily and so I will pull up what I can with masking tape and will leave whatever doesn’t pull up. For the stickers, I’ve heard that freezing them with ice helps pull them up and minimize damage underneath. Making the adhesive cold helps harden it to lift up easier. It does take some time to do though.
Great help, thanks! Question, I’m painting a 1/5 scale fiberglass over wood BF-109. I plan on using my detail sprayer. The separation between the top and side colors is a straight line. But it’s not a sharp edge, it’s a slight fade. Like your freehand line from this video. So how do i do a long staight line that has a fade? Airbrush and a guide of some sort? Thx SJ
There are a couple things you can do. You can free hand it, but I can understand the apprehension towards that. You can do a hybrid of that where you actually mask the separation line and then come back and then airbrush the fade over that (after sanding the separation line smooth). Lastly, 3M sells some round foam tape that you can use to mask off the line and with that stuff being round, it'll create a faded separation. I think it's called soft edge masking tape.
Hello! How much Humbrol paint have you used overall? I am looking to airbrush my FW MiG-29, with Mr Color paints. 10ml each, 1 parts paint, 2 parts thinner ratio will be used.
Well, you can do a couple things. You can mask off the lines with frog tape, spray it and then come back with an airbrush and feather the lines. For the paint, simply spray a quantity of the spray paint into a cup and then use that in the airbrush. Otherwise, there's something called "soft edge" tape which is basically just cylindrical foam tape. That would give a feathered edge also. Keep in mind that spray paints don't atomize the paint as well as an airbrush, so you may get some mottling in the feathered edge.
