Yes splatoon works in turf war where you paint the ground to cover the most to win, and both follow the philosophy that with more ground your movement also gets better as you can move and get around the map a lot more conveniently. In Splatoon, submerging into your ink as swim form also serves as a way to refill your ink tank so lack of ink can also mean less places to retreat and refill your ink. But yeah Foamstars has the same formula, the concept itself is great as the form itself forms structure but the specials and weapon design weren't even expanded or anything really. It has actual identical similarities to some of the special weapons in Splatoon. But unlike splatoon it's very cluttered like I play splatoon actively and even I can't make out what's really going on in the Foamstars trailer. The colors aren't that contrasted compared to splatoon ink, the players are very difficult to see, and the different weapons all shoot the same projectiles, you can't look at some shots and immediately identify who's around you, can you take the fight and kill them, etc etc. TLDR this game had a neat concept but really did just go and copy unfortunately. And even if it was more unique the visual design seems so much of an afterthought it'll be very hard to pick up and play for beginners
