Focusrite Loopback Setup | How To Record Internal Audio

In this tutorial, I will show you how to set up loopback in Focusrite Scarlet audio interfaces, and how to use the Focusrite Loopback function to record internal audio into your DAW. Loopback is a function found in Focusrite Scarlett audio interfaces. It allows you to easily set up the internal audio from your computer as a dedicated input, so that you can record this with just a few clicks inside FL Studio, Ableton, or any other DAW, without using any third-party software. This is extremely useful if you want to record audio from RU-vid, Spotify, etc into FL Studio, Ableton, or any other DAW.
In this tutorial, I'm using FL Studio to show you how to setup loopback with a focusrite scarlett 4i4, but it's the same basic procedure in other daws too.
The first thing you have to do is to go into Focusrite control and enable loopback output. Then, select the same input in FL Studio (or any other DAW). You can now record the internal audio. Easy!
Note that the Loopback feature is not available on the Scarlett solo and the older versions. This is only supported on the higher end 3rd gen interfaces, such as the 4i4.

OK I finally worked this with Logic Pro. The ‘input’ in logic has to be channels 9 and 10 in the Logic track when using my Scarlett 18i20 3d gen I .had no sound to record until I did that. Thanks to this video I found the loopback in focusrite control by scrolling down …. Hidden from view!

I went out and purchased the Focusrite 4i4, and returned the 2i2, after watching this video. It still does not look like this nor does it give me the option within my DAW to select loop. I would recommend making a new video with 4th gen as it is clearly different, but I'm sure the functionality is built in there somewhere. Thank you for your effort.

For anyone interested, this doesn't work with Focusrite 2i2s. They don't have the Loopback function!

I remember it was fully possible to do this without using a "loopback" function, by plug in a spdif (or other channels) in a physical loop. I just dont remember how it worked again, which is annoying.

how to do in logic? i could not find the loop input only 1-2 input but no sound from there

Try all the inputs on the Logic track. Forme it had to be 9-10 with Scarlett 18i20

MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE RECORDING TRACK FROM THE MASTER BEFORE YOU PLAY THE AUDIO IN BROWSER, OR YOU WILL GET FEEDBACK

Loopback isn't working in obs any ideas? I added capture audio and set it to the loopback but it's not showing any signal

I got it working with OBS Classic by setting the Source for the Loopback to 'Analogue 1-2' instead of 'Playback (DAW) 1-2'. I can see the Analogue 1-2 as an option in OBS, but not the Playback 1-2 option. Hope that helps!

@@MartotheMartian I also found that I needed to use the default Windows sound driver in my DAW to record audio rather than the ASIO driver. There might be a way to get it working with ASIO but I'm not sure.

Well, if you have a Focusrite audio interface, I would argue that the software included with it is "native" to that audio interface. Besides, the settings only need to be changed once. After that, it's all done inside your DAW: :)
