Comment from Foil CEO: ‘Thanks for the review Jake. I appreciate understanding your likes and dislikes about the board. I noted your wishlist and I have some updates for you on those: - Smaller board. You can reserve one now and they ship in May. The board is 4’8 and it has handles and a more durable matt paint finish. - New wings. A 250, 200, 170 and 135 will be released in the spring. That should make learning easier for you and your friends. - Speed limiting. I’m testing it in Kauai next week and we’ll get it pushed to everyone’s boards by April. Hopefully much sooner if testing goes well. - Motor noise. We developed new software for the powertrain that has reduced the noise. We’ve been shipping it for a few weeks. It can be applied to powertrains already in the field but they will need to be returned to the factory for the update to be performed. This is optional and there is a small fee to cover the shipping. - Leash spot. I’m not yet convinced on this. I see the utility but I’m concerned about injuries. I’ll add an anchor to a board and do some testing. - New prop. I’m testing this in Kauai next week as well and the computer models say it should reach 35mph. Provided that tests out it will be Available in May and is compatible with powertrains that have already shipped. It’s milled from Aluminum rather than plastic and that should provide some efficiency gain as well. - App. This is already available for iOS and it will be on Android as soon as they approve it. We are encouraging all owners to update their boards as soon as possible.

CEO sounds like a clown. Concerned about injuries with a leash? Every foiler I know wears a leash. Really the only time I don't see leashes is big wave tow foiling. They eject and get away from the board. They have impact suits. The board gets carried away often. The jet ski rescues the rider and then goes to get the board. Not a good situation to be in. My friend didn't have a leash and his board foiled itself into soem rocks and reef and got destroyed. I went without a leash and my board got sent up onto a rock wall and got destroyed. A guy was stranded near Ke'ehi lagoon without a leash and drowned and died. A downwinder got separated from his board and was stranded and lukcily a foiler rescued the board and him. Otherwise he would be swimming for miles and probably never get his board back. To say leashes are dangerous is ridiculous and makes me think the people behind this board don't surf or foil. For anyone wanting to use a leash, just use some paracord or dyneema on the mast screws and run a leash. Or adhesive leash mounts from North Shore on Amazon.

Pretty agressive words there. Any person Ive ever seen with a leash is either new or , geriatric.

At an almost 2 boards to 1 Lift or Flite, it seems like a no brainer to me. I want to go ride with my wife or friend, and $26,000 is a big investment in e-foils.

Another great video, Mike! Good to see all the new players. I like the magnetic hand controller connecting to the battery , but yes, it needs handles ;-)

Why didn't we the "Foil CEO" talk on camera? Can we expect that in the future? Overall really good review and image quality. I think customer feedback like this is super important for buyers considering which brand to purchase from. Thanks Mike!

Another great insight to the efoil range and a good review giving tips for improving and how they can move on. Mike has got me into 3 jetsurf boards and a mako before those. I must have been contacted so many times on jetboards selling almost 10 other boards from people seeing me out on them and my website. Keep up the great work and electric boards are getting more popular these last 2 years. There is even a rental company close to where I live in Cornwall UK who rents them out and sales. I still love my jetsurf race boards for all day riding with the family though. But reviews like this make keep me interested I will be a efoil user one day I know it. Just need the weight down close to jetsurf and battery's life

One thing I forgot to mention is that there’s actually a lot of extra space in the battery compartment of the Foil with the battery installed-you could easily fit a small-to-medium-sized bag in there.

Good point but I don’t see any bias, Jake explains all the features fairly. His old battery was stolen.
@JacobBerube
@JacobBerube 2 года назад
That was me in the video-my car was broken into and my Foil battery and controller were stolen. Foil very graciously sent me a new battery even though they didn’t need to, and I paid for a new controller. I should have been more upfront about that as a disclaimer, but the views I expressed are my own and I tried to be very fair and not just give them a good review because of their kind gesture.

Too bad that after 2 'rock solid' experiences with Lift board Jake still decided to try his luck on another product. I understand the price tag is good but the product is not. Seen it first hand, too many issues and clearly a still beta product launched too soon.

What was your experience? What issues? Seems Kyle addressed most of early issues
@TechWeWant

@@JetSurfingNation Someone we know bought one. Biggest issue was the connector to the battery simply didn't align, the board was unusable. Owner could not even use it after unboxing it, battery needed to be sent back due to quality issue. Months of waiting for new parts. The build quality- lots of plastic components on this board as mentioned in this video: plastic rings to the box, plastic propeller, feels cheap. Other concerns were also the paint as shown in this video... the paint on the board we saw chipped as soon as it went in the water, was not bumped against anything. The handle missing is also another big missing component, making it very inconvenient to bring into the water alone. The construction of the wings looked cheap compared to other wings from Lift or Fliteboard. And finally the remote controller, the trigger has barely any give as mentioned in this video, the power is going to be way too high. And no ability to change any modes so it's always 100% full power!

Lift isn’t better. They have horrible customer service. I have a very bad experience with them. They also have very rude CFO. Fliteboarod is much better.

The lack of a leash shows the creators of this aren't typical foil guys. Lots of design flaws I'm seeing here. EVERY board should have a spot for a leash. Someone on O'ahu got separated from their board and later died after drowning. Someone was doing a downwind run foiling and lost their board. Luckily another foiler was able to grab the board and get it back to the owner. But you're asking for trouble going without leash. The only reason I would get this efoil is to adventure towards this outer reef and ride swells. Without a leash, I can't say I'd go that far or ride in waves. The board also lacks basic foil shapes. Kick tail, concave bottom contour, leash plug, etc. INteresting product but as several people have said, it seems cheaply made and rushed to market and isn't ready. This kills so many companies and products. I'd love to test ride or demo one and it prove me wrong. But this looks cheap and like it will have issues. Cheap board, cheap components, cheap controller (waterlogging apparently is an issue) and the foil wings themselves look cheap and shitty compared to Lift, Armstrong, Takuma, etc.
@JetSurfingNation
@JetSurfingNation 2 года назад
About leashes - I always use a leash on my jetboards and efoils but to be fair to this brand, even my new Lift E3 does not have any spot for leash attachment, and I am sure their creators DO foil a lot :) They just attach the least to the handle. Fliteboard has a special leash place starting series 2. I think a coiled leash is a good solution for efoils. Some people attach it to leg (like me) and others to the waist. As for " cheaply made" - they went into the beginner / entry level market first on purpose, targeting the low-budget clients. Of course it might looks cheaper than Fliteboard but it's 2 times cheaper. We can't expect Kia and Porsche to use same materials but both can ride you from A to B well enough.

@@JetSurfingNation it seems that attaching to the stern would be trivial. Surprised they haven't provided a simple loop there.

Shrouded propellers should be mandatory. Safety is not an option. By the way, the shroud can be used to actually create extra thrust, so, there is no reason for this design error. If manufacturers disregard this aspect, the efoil activity will be banned or heavily regulated because accidents related to this aspect are being more and more frequent. I hope all the efoil manufacturers invest most of their R&D effort to tackle this subject.
@JetSurfingNation
@JetSurfingNation 2 года назад
In fact most pro riders of Lift and Flite remote the prop guard. It gives extra 20% speed, riding time, less drag and more maneuverability. Regarding safety - the safer option is Audi E-tron efoil with a jet instead of a prop. Adding Shrouded propellers does not make it safer, imagine if a finger gets stuck there. Or a stick / seaweed that can break the prop during the ride and leave you far away from shore on a broken board. The proper board should stop when you fall. The real danger is not a propeller but the sharp mast and wings, those can really hurt you badly when you fall on them. always wear a helmet and the impact vest. Cheers
@miguelaguirre5915
@miguelaguirre5915 2 года назад
@@JetSurfingNation thanks for the answer, the Audi efoil looks promising. By the way, do you know if there is a sort of table or database with all the existing efoils out there? That would be cool to make a proper comparison, especially for those that are looking to invest in such a product. Thanks again and keep doing those nice interviews !
@krispewkrem3
@krispewkrem3 2 года назад
I've been foil surfing for a year. The prop should not be an issue. Don't put your feet or hands there... You should never be near the prop while moving and that's not even possible. Also, shrouds add drag. But yes, as others have said, a jet powered foil is the best in terms of efficiency and safety.
