Hey Jamie, I quite often take 2 hours for balayage application and sometimes feel bad about keeping the client for longer but would rather take my time to get a awesome result rather than rushing and being more concerned about timing. Hearing you say you took 5 hours from start to finish made me feel so much better about how I do my clients, I've always believed the end result is everything!

Laura Robinson hi Laura, i am glad to know that. I do have the same feeling as you do. To be honest, i believe a proper balayage or foilayage need at least 3.5-5hrs depends on the hair’s thickness and length. You can check out my work from my instagram winnihairstylist. most of my work were about 4 hrs.

I’m having a hard time with toners. When I was in school we were just told “use purple if she’s too yellow” but I’ve seen people use 3-4 different toners and I’m just like... 🤯 I’ve studied the shades chart but I guess I need to study a little more 😣

Its nice seeing someone with thick coarse hair in your videos... When I do a client's hair its never like a client with medium to thin hair... I am so glad I am not the only one that it takes over 5+ hours... Love the outcome... this is an older video, but still... great turn out.

Love the final result, but I really dislike the warmth where the lightener overlaps the conditioner. I feel like the conditioner is unnecessary with the teasing... Love the result, but I wish there was more of an even lift especially on virgin hair.

so i have a quick question. I did a foilayage technique on my friend virgin hair but didn't blonde the tips, and it obviously came out more highlighted (great learning experience)...i'm going to do it again and do the tips this time. my questions are.... when you split the middle section in half...and did the tips on a portion of it....are you doing that for all of the middle pieces all the way until the top? ALSO are you hitting the tips of side pieces that are left out? thank you!! i love watching your videos and watching your techniques! i never learned how to do balayges in school

Hey Alison, thanks for watching! It depends on how much blonding you want but I will blonde the tips if the hair is healthy enough for it and that is her desired goal!

Hi jamie i love you and your hair transformation but can i ask you a favor? Online everyone use redken to tone the hair but here in my country is so so difficoult and expensive and i wanna ask if u can use Wella color touch toners i wanna know from u if they are beautiful or not and how to use it

Thanks for watching my videos! And I love the suggestion! However, I typically only use Redken or Goldwell to tone because those are the brands I know. Hey thanks for the helpful techniques. Just an FYI, I noticed you use shades EQ to tone and I learned with that line, the color stops working if it’s overworked. You are supposed to stir it but not shake it and also never work it into the hair to the point that is suds. Suds=less deposit. This was a game changer for me. My tones are so much better since learning this from the redken reps. So I thought I would share the knowledge. Hope it helps. :)

Hi Shaunda -- That is not necessary! The amount of pigment in the tube is based on the level (so a level 9 will have less pigment than a level 3). You want to tone based on how much you want to correct. Thanks so much for watching!

Just curious if theres a difference to using a separate foil on top versus folding the one up? Is that just because the hairs so long the foil doesnt reach or is there a special reason? Find your techniques so easy to follow, you make a great teacher.
@slimshayd25
@slimshayd25 5 лет назад
I think it's because if you fold it up then the lightener on the ends would most likely be touching the hair at the top that you work so hard on blending nicely (:

OK so I'm with you up until 10 minutes, which is where I am now. I see you take that pink brush and dip it in something in order to blend out the hair. Is it water? I watched two more times and you said it was a dry brush so maybe you were removing some of the bleach with a towel or something. I'll figure it out. Hi Jamie! I’m a cosmo student and I have a foilayage service booked in a couple days and I was wondering if you know of any Joico or Loma conditioners would be good to use as a blending agent? It’s my first time doing one and I want to make sure it’s as blended as possible. I learn so much from you thank you for these videos!

Hi Jamie! I have a question.. would the results still look good if you hadn't weaved it, and just teased it? The results are beautiful & thank you!

I’m sure you’ve already gotten this question but, did you do back to back diagonal foils on the bottom when you first started or did you take out a section in between?

What kind of weave did you do ? Medium , heavy ?

hey girl idk if you'll see this comment but i was wondering for your two front sections i know you said she was changing her part to the middle so you did her hair like that but if my client parted her hair to the side i would do the same thing you did just with her natural part??
@JamieDana
@JamieDana 5 лет назад
If she parts her hair the same every day, I would work with her part! Thanks for watching!

Hi Jamie, I'm really loving your work and techniques. I've seen a few people here commenting that it's refreshing to know how long application actually takes and I agree with them! I've also struggled with feeling bad for keeping people in the chair "too long". What I'm wondering now is, how do you price out our services?
