Sometimes, a great songwriter can crystallize their decades of life and experience into words that truly resonate with people, and get that audience to think, "Man, that's profound. Why hasn't someone else ever pointed out Life that way before?" And if those songwriters are really good, they'll organize those words into lyrics that mix pathos and humor into true tragedy: that desire for someone's success despite the overwhelming odds against them. And the lyrics from a great songwriter will embed themselves in our minds, and the next time we have doubts about God, or Life, or this crazy world we live in, the lyrics will return and comfort us a little, and we'll remember that a great songwriter once tried to teach us about these moments. Todd Snider: the definition of a great songwriter.
Todd Snider seems to be about as down to earth as you can get! His poetry is powerful stuff- Not many people are so courageous to be as frank about their feelings and opinions as he. I have tremendous respect for TS. If he isn't sharing his truth, then he may be one of the world's best actors, imo! There is something so priceless about artists who don't try to sugar coat reality, or do the opposite, and overdramatize their hard luck in order to obtain audience approval. I find TS' lyrics are very relatable on a deep inside level. And I'm very grateful for his wit, wisdom and amazing humor...Truly 🦄😙☮
Well done sir. You just took the spot as my #1 favorite singer/songwriter. I hate to say it, but you just surpassed Townes van zandt in my books. Excellent, excellent job. Keep it up
