He legalised corruption by allowing direct negotiations for govt contracts. He has given the power to those ministers and directors of govt agencies to deal with contractors for the contracts they wanted with direct negotiations. This is unbelievable and unacceptable.

Since the 1980s, Singaporeans (along with the few well educated Malaysians) has been saying that Mahathir was a corrupted politician. It took another 4 decades for the majority of the nation to realise this fact. Ever since Mahathir was in administration, the country had never progressed much despite being neighbors with Singapore (a country with no resources) that is a good benchmark. Why is that happening ? CORRUPTION ! Now Anwar is in battle against corruption in Malaysia, it is an uphill task for him to fight something that has plague the nation for more than 4 decades.

How Dr M resolved the CLOB issue needed to be investigated as it destroyed klse dynamism forever. Singaporeans avoided investing in our stocks. To me, it look like grand theft auto as it went through a middleman and those shares were bought very cheaply. The forced bank consolidation also destroyed the dynamism of the economy.

In the 90s the Washington Consensus was rolled out by Clinton and the IMF, virtually demanding that developing countries open their economies to the free market. Anwar would have done so without hesitation. But Mahathir, the man who built modern Malaysia, refused and instituted controls to prevent capital flight, as well as continuing government support for the building industry in Malaysia. So while all the other SE Asian economies crashed, partly because of ruthless currency speculators who bet against those currencies, Malaysia survived. Mahathir saved the economy, whereas Anwar would have sold it out to the American-IMF bullshit. Of course, the West pretended that Anwar was jailed for homophobia. He was jailed to sideline him from the currency battle.
