Latest greatest bikes are sweet until they're not... Glad I'm to broke to be able to afford the frustration. :). Glad to hear you made it past the dreaded check engine light for this go round!
The plug was soaked from it being rich on multiple start ups and not being ridden. I had a TPI that was in and out of the dealer, along with constantly having to mess with it myself.
Going to keep my 2018 KTM300XCW with a Keihin carb forever! Don’t want these headaches when riding with friends in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. Great update! Thank you!
This fault doesn't cause any running issue with the bike. While you're fouling a plug or changing jets on the side of the trail all the FI bikes will be passing you.
Hey guys, Thanks for all of the info this issue. My son's 23 KTM 250sx has the same issue. Only 1.5 hours on it. Sent some of this info to the dealership this morning and they called us back today. KTM is aware of the issue and was told that we need to sit tight and wait for a software update. Also, if anyone finds an adapter for a odb2 reader for the 23 MY let us know. I use one on my 19 husky and it's nice to have. Thanks again for all your help!
My 2023 Husky TC 250 (with 2.3 hours) has same blink but runs perfectly. I did hit the start button while running on my first ride. The battery was also dead the first 2 times I tried to start it once I got it home. I jumped it and now it seems fine. So low battery power may have caused it also. Thanks for the great info! I absolutley love the bike so far other than this little issue.
I am going to say its you hitting start button while running, only because I have drained battery with light testing and I did not get the blinking back.
@Josh Mundy quick question for you: I'm new to KTM and have my hour meter displaying 'Fuel' there's plenty of fuel in the tank, do you know what that would be? I downloaded the owners manual and can't seem to find this code.
This is my first KTM as well so it’s a learning curve for all! When it displays fuel it means that the pump isn’t seeing much fuel. Even if tank seems half full, there is a sump in middle of back of tank that is where the fuel has to go for pump to get fuel. Rock the bike back and forth to get fuel into the sump or fill tank, ride it a bit and it should go away
Brand new husky tx300, straight from dealer here in Australia, exact same code. Bike has been ridden yet, only started up a few times. Here we are all using a different spark plug(different grade pump furl perhaps).
We went out riding today and my husbands 2023 Huqvarna TX300 started throwing the same code. He said he hit the start button. Thanks for the video. Hoping it’s as easy as clearing the code. Do you know if there’s been a software update?
Is there a way to check engine hours on ecu without going to a dealer or relying on the hour meter? Headed to look at a used one and from what I understand if you unplug the hour meter it won’t record hours on the new ones just like the older models..
Not that I am aware of as the only way to read any ECU data is with the XC2 tool which long story short does not work for a consumer. I do not know if a user unplugging the hour meter will cause other issues, but most likely they would not because most users do not know how to or care to. Also it is my experience that a bike usually looks like the hours on display - so a low hour bike should look good (clutch cover / stator cover little to no wear, frame or frame guards little to no wear, everything still tight, etc...) Unless ridden by a top level rider or just abused, a 10 h our bike looks and feels different than a 80 hour bike.
thanks for the vidéo! just got the same issue with my tc 250 2023 . 2.2 hours on it and the fi code appear after i touch the start button when the bike running !
I hit the start button accidentally and have the exact same issue. 5 long blinks and not great idle. I'm calling the dealer in the morning when they are open.
Did your idle change from hitting the button? My idle never changed and it was pretty low idle when I got the bike. Adjusted the red knob to increase idle. DO NOT mess with yellow knob for idle, it will make it run really bad.
@@joshmundy Yes it got lower and wouldn't take throttle very well at all. It does sort of feel like a fouled plug. I got it at Northwest European Cycles and they are really good with taking care of the customer so hopefully I can get it resolved. It seems like they will need to come out with a software update to solve the start button / code issue, but I'd also say that these bikes don't like to be started constantly and not ridden which I may tend to do with a new toy... I'll report back when I have more.
@@oasis618 They do not like to just idle alot. Plug could be fouling up. I know dealer replaced mine when they cleared the 5 blink code and it cleaned it up some. I did another video where I checked the plug after I got bike back and did a race and plug looked pretty good -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2vCTiyxLfug.html
Just bought 23 XC300 same issues - Going to have to go back - I adjusted both the Red dial and the Yellow dial - Hopeful after code clears its fine. (code needed for gear)
Dont ever mess with the yellow unless you have the proper tools to calibrate it properly. Changing the yellow knob (talking turning it, not pushing it in for cold start) will make the bike run very poorly. The yellow is not something you mess with for idle. Only red should be adjusted for idle. As far as the 5 blinks, its an issue typically with pressing start button while bike is running. There is an update out for it the dealer can install
same issue with my 2023 Husky TX300. Tried the reset but it didn't work Looks like ill have to take it up the shop unfortunately. Thanks for the video man. very informative and helpful.
Yep - so far only a shop can clear codes but there is a fix out and the latest map is supposed to clean up the fueling as well so it runs a bit better.
@@joshmundy right on. Shop has had my bike for 2 days now, Hope its an easy push of new software. It should be......I only have 20 hours on the bike. I had 120 hours on my '21 Tx300 with zero issues ever.
Yo josh I did the same thing but my code is running three slow blinks and 7 quick blinks which in the manual states ignition coil - circuit fault . Any insight on what that actually means ? I pulled the plugs and cleaned em and threw it back together and the problem is still there . Also wondering if it will cause harm if riding with the code thrown
so this is not based on my personal experience, just based on groups / pages I am a part of and have read about - There have been a small amount of bikes that have shipped with bad coils. Bike runs fine but the error is showing on the hour meter. Replacement coil from dealer fixes issue. Sounds like most if not all people are getting it replaced under warranty from KTM at dealer.
I picked my 300xc on Nov 2 an took it back on Nov 3rd. It wouldn't idle without stalling. When I went back to pick bike up... they showed me how it idles now by itself... only thing is they didn't notice code flashing 5 times. Lol. I showed it to them an they rolled it back in the shop for the weekend cause the mech had gone home already. The dealership has put the first .5 hours on bike trying to get it to idle right. I haven't even rode it yet. Maybe Monday. How'd your race go? Hopefully bike is not acting up anymore.
My bike didnt like to idle well either, I had to turn the red screw in about 3/4 to 1 full turn to get it to idle well. Also make sure to push in the yellow cold start button on bottom of throttle body to pick up the rpm when its cold to help it idle. Sucks they had to keep it, but hopefully you get it back soon and can ride it. Race went well, ill have a video out about it and some other stuff on bike here soon. Bike ran awesome and was an absolute blast at the race
@@joshmundy Update: ktm Wyoming... got bike back Monday 11/7. Starts, idles good with no flashing codes. Dealer told me the 5 flash code was a hard code that only they could clear. They put the first .5 hours on the bike figuring out new design. Lol.
@@wykittypreps5794 interesting. I was told by my dealer that they cleared the 5 long flash code but then got a Crank Position code that was a hard code.
Dang it! I got the 5 blinking light error haha! I thought that I'd escape from getting it. Anyway, I got it from bump starting it and t didn't quite fire all the way so I hit the start button too soon and bam got the 5 blinking light LOL! I couldn't tell that the bike was even running even different, maybe just a little more rich? I don't even know if it makes a difference.
Did the dealer say anything about performance being impacted by this code? If not, I might just let it go until KTM comes out with a fix for it. Otherwise I can see this possibly happening to me again. This happened while on the trail, I came down a steep hill and tried to compression start the bike, but it was super slick so the bike didn't fire (it turned over but didn't fire), and it was like "reflex" for me, I just automatically hit the start button because I needed to keep going to make the next section of the trail.
No they didn’t mention it causing issues, but I had it looked at early on before much was known on the issue. I never had an issue when riding the bike with the error, rode 2 hours and ran great
Thanks for your content, I just watched your video about trying to get a code reader to work. I also do all my own maintenence, and definitely do not have any interest or time to take my bike to a dealer everytime I need to reset a light and or change a sensor. Please let me know if you find a code reader that worke!
I have the code 😂😂 7.2 hours I know I stalled the bike going down a hill from a lock up and the re started by letting the clutch out (bump start) my have also hit the button 🤷♂️. Bike still seems the run strong. I think it’s put into rich mode. I notice at the end of the silencer it’s on the wet side oily. Did you notice that with your bikes?
Yeah the bike ran fine when I had the 5 long blink lights, which occured because I hit the start button while bike was running. Id recommend taking the bike in to have codes checked unless you know you have the 5 blinking lights from hitting the start button.
@joshmundy Update had my bike at the dealer to clear the code cleared it but also re created the fault code by hitting the start button while running. that definitely creates the fault. KTM will need a software update to fix that problem.
@@brodybrown8923 I have heard that about a month ago KTM has an update that will fix this issue of the fault code appearing if you hit the start button while it is running. I have not gotten it yet but there is alot of internet talk of people getting it and it working. Dealer should just have to hook up to the XC2 tool and it will alert them an update is available
That’s exactly what happened to me. I purchased the 2023 ktm300sx back in mid November and I haven’t even taken it out to the track yet. about a week ago I decided to start it because it has been sitting and when I went to cut it off I accidentally hit the start button while it was running and then it immediately threw that error code. Unfortunately, now my bike is at the dealership
@@joshmundy thank you !! I’m definitely gonna go to the dealership now. when I told them what happened they told me they didn’t even know about the error code and that ktm had such an update
@@seanbush2536 update has been out for a while now, I think atleast a month. I haven’t gotten it yet but I need to. When the tech hooks up the bike to the xc2 tool, it will alert them a software update is available
@@joshmundy I have the 2023 Husky TX300, and a few weeks ago at a race I was doing, I accidently hit the start button instead of the kill switch and threw a code. I will be taking my bike to dealer to clear the code, but just to be sure, was there a name for that update? And what are you meaning by "the dealer can flash"? That if you hit the kill switch instead of the start, that it won't throw another code? Any information you might have would be helpful, thank you.
melting a spark plug?!? Nope, no issues at all. Never have fouled a plug, dealer said that they did or it was going to but I have never had one foul and when I check the plug it always looks great, like chocolate cake
its not an oil injected bike, 2023 XC TBI is a premix bike. Also I have never fouled a plug, the dealer was saying the plug was trying to foul and was oil soaked. I think it is from the extended idle time while they were working on it.
@@joshmundy I did not know that. my 23 erzberg is TPI and I knew the others went to TBI but I didnt know they werent still oil injected. Learn something everyday
UPDATE: Came home after dealer reset and rode 2 miles down a gravel road with steady on no blink FI light. This AM started bike and soon as I put it in gear 5 SLOW blinking again. Did NOT hit start button while bike was running. So it seams I'm stuck in a loop and must wait for KTM fix. KTM Please rush :) @Josh Mundy
@@wfo_racer No i do not believe they did a PV relearn. They cleared it, and then when they started it, there was a crank position sensor error they had to diagnose, the system would not let them clear it. Then they cleaned and checked every electrical connection they tried to clear again and it worked. They noticed plug was very oily, so they put in a new plug. Bike ran great, put about 4-5 hours on it of hard racing and never a hiccup.
I’ve tried hooking up a few different Bluetooth adapter to read codes and other parameters. But no luck getting it connected. Have you heard of anyone successfully doing so?
It ran good with the flashing light, but after I got the bike back from dealer (new plug as stock one had alot of oil on it) it runs and idles alot better.
This is why with KTM if you buy a new model you are the quality control personnel. Love KTM, but will buy next years model after the bugs are worked out. Will be a great bike for sure. Just not yet.
@@joshmundy That's cool. I've been buying KTM's since 1991. I usually buy the 3rd or 4th year of model due to many years of experience. Glad it's working good for you. Have fun.
Look up Starvation Ridge 24 Hour. Its outside of Goldendale Washington. This year it was a 21 mile course of flowing farm fields, technical rocks and everything in between!
I 100 percent accidentally hit the start button last ride, now I have the 5 blinking code. Can't clear it either with the diagnostic thingy. I guess its a trip to the dealer for me
