Circling those wagons of support! I love that Chris & Nate are on background vocals of more songs. I love that Shane & Violet are THAT good, so it’s natural & not cringy when they perform w/ FF. Violet is chewing gum, just like her daddy! She’s wearing a crisp, white blouse and sporting dark hair & I keep imagining Dave seeing his mom (in Violet) off to the left of his peripheral vision…circlin’ them wagons, indeed!
Anyone notice that Van Halen lick at beginning and end? Made my night. What an amazing show. And Shane was a hoot. “C’mon kid - there’s a curfew, y’know!)
I'm not going to lie, I cried a little on Rope for a minute when it wasn't Taylor singing, but that is a really beautiful vocal blend. I dig what Vi is doing on it.
Can I just point out how father & daughter are BoTh chewing gum ❤ I believe Dave’s had the same piece since ‘95 😂 Bet. . . go back & check it out. I love this So much, btw. One of my tops fav ff songs from the last few albums
I always wonder if Dave’s mom had the same pipes. Dave and Virginia have spoken about always singing in the car, but she could have been tone deaf for all we know. Somehow I wish we’d have had the opportunity to hear his mama belt one out because I get the feeling those pipes came from his mama. Either way, it’s beautiful to see Violet want to sing with her dad, and it’s wonderful to see her develop from that first time he brought her up on stage a bunch of years ago.
Dave has said in some interviews and in his autobiography that his mother was a singer before becoming a public school teacher. She was in a trio. And his father was a musically trained flautist before becoming a journalist. Even though Dave didn't have formal musical education, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
When I heard the intro to rope last night first thing I thought of was Taylor 😢, he was always the backing vocalist for this track and had a drum style that could just melt into and song perfectly. He specifically played rope with a Neil peart groove as a nod to his love of drumming. I love Josh but he reminds me of a kid who played drums and did so by reading music, Taylor just has the feel of the music... I was not taught traditionally either just picked up the sticks and started jamming. Love them both, BUT TAYLOR HAWKINS IS MY PICK.
Not piling on but it sounds like youre in a down with new foo fighters period of your life. Cool for you but you can't blame people for avoiding that and healing instead. Taylor won't be forgotten but he's not here to carry on, those people on that stage are and have chosen to... so on We go friend.
@Simon Andrew i'm not the world's biggest FFs fan - I like and respect them, and like anyone in music, we all loved and respected Taylor. But Josh was the NIN drummer first time I saw them, and then he KILLED it when I saw him with GNR, so I am definitely a Josh Freese fan. The curiosity of hearing him in this context is what brought me here. I get it. I'm a huge Black Crowes fan. To the casual listener, their current drummer is probably more than adequate. But to ME, it's so different...and the new guy has improved over the past 2 years of touring, but...he's still not Steve Gorman. So I understand. I just know that a guy like Taylor isn't replaceable, so I'm sure Dave is giving Josh plenty of room to make things 'his' as opposed to trying to 'replace' someone who is irreplaceable.
I don’t agree with you about Josh. He just has a different feel to Taylor. He’s more direct and louder. He actually does a great job of sounding like Dave on the drums and throws in a few of Dave’s signature fills. Listen to the first two A Perfect Circle records if you have any doubt what Josh brings to songs.
Josh is amazing, but I have come to really appreciate so much more the signature groove that Taylor brought to FF songs. Damn he was a good drummer and FF sound the way they do because of him- but Josh is a great choice and is part of the bands evolution. Violet is brilliant too btw ;P
Super super excited Violet is doing the lines of Taylor. The right choice. Josh needs to work on the paradiddle thing on the ride cymbal on Rope. Love his renditions, of the songs, but in Rope I missed Taylor, so hard.
I agree about Rope. I love Josh Freese and they couldn't have chosen a better drummer. He is a giant in the world of music - I have seen him play live may times with APC and IMO Freese was crucial to the excellent quality of the first two APC albums as well as the power and finesse he brought to their live shows. But there's a certain looseness in the way Taylor plays Rope, and it's especially lacking in the fills in the middle of the song. Still, I am beyond happy that the band continues to save Rock, especially after hearing the latest FF album.
Right onnnnn!!! Your harmonies are GREAT!!! You are doing so o so good Violet!! Nice climb on the vocals and holding the note… now if that guy beside you could actually sing- then you’ll have something JUST KIDDING 😂
reminds me so much of me and my dad doing these duets growing up, we’re both about the exact same ages as violet and dave :,) violet actually gave me some haircare advice on tiktok once lol
Yeah I was thinking the same here, his style is very different from Taylor's, it's a matter of taste I guess, Taylor played with more groove and dynamics.
Neil’s bits were meant to be played exactly the way they were. Taylor knew that. The only variation he made was on the ghost note pattern on the snare and his fits the song better than Neil’s would have. It makes me sad Josh didn’t play this exactly the way Taylor did. I know Josh is a different drummer with a different style, but I feel like some parts you need to play exactly right as a tribute to Taylor, and as good of a drummer as Josh is, he’s more than capable of learning that pattern
@@ahtoka7008 Yeah, I am just hoping it was a last min song added in and Josh will tidy up on those bits when he gets the time. He is doing an excellent job but there has been a few moments where the playing misses the mark, just a little bit - mostly in terms of feel. Josh is a very straight, on the beat drummer. You can hear the tempo and feel shift from what Dave sets as soon as Josh comes in on Rope.
The ride is there but the bass drum beat is off during the chorus, plus his drums have a way different tone to Taylor's. They use different brands of cymbals and drums, which does actually sound alot different live, all mic'd up!
her dad chews gum too from time to time..keeps the throat from drying which kills your vocals. I used to be bothered by it too but if it serves a function, so be it. #themoreyouknow
I see your point, but I feel like she's there to support her father more than to bring on a stunning stage presence . I am glad she is there so Dave won't feel so lonely since he used to spend the entire show interacting with Taylor. Let's not forget there's still grief. The band has lost Taylor and Dave has lost his best friend and his mother. Thank God he can count on this gem called Violet. Plus, she's only 17 and doesn't have have the experience her dad has. She will get there eventually, or not. But I believe she will gift us all with her own music someday. The band won't ever be the same without Taylor like they have said in the announcement of their comeback. But I am grateful they are back and that they haven't abandoned us. Their music has a healing power. Long live Foo Fighters
Did you notice him early on in the video staring at the camera. I should say glaring at it. He hates that people record at his shows. He's got stuff on you tube showing how much he hates people recording at his shows.
