His contribution to rock with foo fighters, in my opinion, is bigger then whit Nirvana. And, just the fact of him be on those two fucking legend bands, is something BIG. Really big.
+Michael Swanton Just an over-rated paper-weight, anyways....real musicians & fans don't care about those dumb awards or that joke known as the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame"
I made a comment way back and it just irrupted into the fans saying he did it as a tribute. I call bullshit. But I had to delete my comment do to backlash. I agree man, just don't push it to hard. Not everyone knows music like you.
This has always said it all... I've been telling my story for seven eight years OUT LOUD because honestly I have nothing to lose after what ive been through past fifteen sixteen years❤️ love you always!
@@davegrohl6815 if you only knew lol... you and several others saved my life in commerce texas. Your music has always been "perfect timing" lol....esp the nursing home RUN lol ... if you have a few years to listen to me I could share my story lolol....I've been so blessed to have music my entire life esp when going through tough times...wish I could've seen your band play in person but I'm in a stupid wheelchair and have noone to drive me to dallas nor anyone that can push me in the chair 24/7 😘✌🏻
I really did not enjoy this song at first (did not really like the mix and copy thing, boring first 3min). But after listening to it a big amount of times I have really come around. The lyrics are simple but very catchy and a bit powerful also. The thing that makes me question the integrity of the lyrics is the fact that this album is a love letter to American music and different cities sounds and artist. Rather than focusing of writing something that means something special to them personally. That is great for them to be able to do this album, but even though they want to stand for the living and passionate about music .... this rather feels cold and dead. Hope that the rest of the album makes me change my mind. For the time being I will listen to Slipknots new album.
I know what you mean. I'm enjoying the lyrics personally, but you're right about the whole personal thing. That's why i love TCATS, there are some brilliant lyrics in that album.
To be fair, Dave seems pretty passionate about America's musical history. I didn't notice any particular coldness in this song but I kind of doubt they'll be able to approach the personal intimacy of a song like Everlong.
fair enough. Colour and the shape is one of my favorite albums and a lot of that is due to the personal lyrics. A lot of that album is about his divorce. The one in Seattle or D.C. though... there's still room for personal lyrics i'd say. Either way i'm really excited about this album. Hope you enjoy it :)
Once you watch the 1st ep of the documentary, you realise what the lyrics are all about. And you start to hear little bits of what they showed in the documentary. It makes it very powerful in my opinion, and it gives the song and lyrics a lot of meaning! You say it isn't personal, but it clearly is for them to go to these great lengths to get this history out there! I can't judge the whole album yet obviously, but I love this song, and I don't think they've released one weak album yet! So here's hoping!
Ehhh, even this one song so far (on just it's 3rd listen) has got more of my enjoyment than all of the efforts from Slipknot so far. The Foos may not stick to their "roots", but they always seem to be around the "roots" of rock n roll
I saw them only once on the All my Life tour…I’ve seen Van Halen 16 times live and Eddie is God but that one and only Foo show I was at is still the Greatest Live show I’ve ever been to…
he still spots for other bands that need a drummer now and then. what gets me is he pretty much does everything by ear. that makes for a great producer too. he had a few lessons, got the guitar figured out a little, then just ran with it, then he learned to play drums by watching and listening to Rush tracks. not sure about his singing, but he went from keeping the beat to being the heart and still helping out other bands. Dave is, if nothing else, one hell of a guy.
I listened to nirvana and then foo fighters growing up, my dad loved their music too. My dad passed away 3 years ago. . He was kind of an amateur astronomer, and obsessed with ufo's. He explained to me what foo fighters were. Just strengthens the connection between this music and my memory of my dad. Keep on keepin' on guys. Much love from MN!
+nnathangrahamm I said this the first time I heard this song, and everyone looked at me like I was insane. P.S. no disrespect to Dio or anything, but KSE covered that song so much better than the original.
Taylor, you rocked every time you sat at your drum set. The world has lost a true legend full of enthusiasm, humour and zest for life. We miss you already. Thoughts are with the band, your family and friends 😢
Dave is intense. That is what makes him great. He is punk, he is pop, he is classical... he is simply the very best. He is far better than Zep and the Beatles, but today's culture does not get it. We are so priviledged to have him now. Go see him live often. These days will not be here forever.
Dave: "Hey guys, what's the best part of any given Foo Fighters song?" Band: "The bridge?" Dave: "We're going to make a song that's only bridge, and it's gonna blow everyone's shit right out the door!"
Guillermo Rodríguez Isn't it also more the "special" part often placed between the second chorus and third verse? Like a basic song usually goes verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus or something.
Oh fuck, I see you guys complaining on EVERY big band that finally comes with a new song... And it's always the same bullshit "they were better" "i prefer the old style" "they will never make another song like x and y again". Guys, this is the Foo Fighters we all know/love, all the elements are here. I don't get the point. Yeah, the harmony is simple, we can predict the next chords of this song, but I don't care, this isn't what matters, this is what FF is, they never did nothing beyooond this... every music nowadays is a bunch of recycled ideas to create something new... kind of. Or you guys are tired of this kind of music or you guys think you understand some shit of music and expected them to surprise you playing some revolutionary multiscalevirtuosytclyfuckingsolosmasteroftechniques... THIS song rocks, dave is a fucking great frontman/singer/screamer and that's it :D
Yeap, if it is easy make good songs, why people can t do it ? :) I still love all the songs of FF :) and i a m a kind of musician too, and the most simple chords are the fucking best
Apple/ /Green Its better a band to stay and be something like the same, but with a bit of change, than a band that change his style. If you want to see band with different styles then go listen to metallica.
It's weird, but, I think this is my favorite Foo Fighters song ever. Just because of how Raw and how Real it is. This is Dave's song, about his life, and he's pouring his entire soul into this rocking song. It's everything a Foo Fighters song should be; Loud guitars, loud fucking chorus, heavy riff, and heavy climax. Perfection.
What a great groove. Slow, but intense build up! Also, love the dio inspiration with the holy diver! "Fuck it all, I CAME FROM NOTHING!" This song proves why the foo fighters are one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace our stages and studios!
Many people think human beings are the only animal that is conscious. Is a dog or a cat conscious? Where do you draw the line? Is a bird conscious? The truth is that all animal life is conscious and alive just like us. The only thing that makes humans different from other animals is that we have a mind that can think and reason at a high enough level to know the truth of life, and those that know rise above animals. *→ If you want to know the truth of life, I suggest you to read ~~The Present~~ at TruthContest♥Com*
too all the people bitching about "They ripped off holy diver", if you remember, they are making each song in a different city, the point is to get inspiration and also a sense of what music was made in that particular city in the song, so basically, putting in that riff was the hole point, because Dio was huge, i think they are smart enough to know they were playing a similar riff to holy diver, considering they are professional musicians :)
First time I heard Sonic Highways I actually didn't like it, but after listening to it a few times it eventually became my favourite Foo Fighters album. The songs are fantastic, and I love that every song has relation to certain cities in America, it makes for an interesting, amazing album.
I really wish that Dave becomes appreciated as a rock ledge do one day... I know FF fans already appreciate how much of not just a guitarist/vocalist he is, but from being a drummer previously, a songwriter, a director, and all round creative genius. I mean playing every single instrument on a full album himself, I doubt many other artists can say that. I know his fans already see him like that and he loves his fans no matter what, but Dave is honestly this generations musical God and I’d love for other artists to see him like that, the ones that don’t already ❤️
Molly MacDonald to be honest both Dave and Kurt’s music has helped me get thru so much in my life. When I was a teenager and angry at the world, and everything around me and also having depression Kurt’s music helped me thru those times and now Daves music is helping me come out of a major rut in my life.
I have appreciated Dave Grohl and the rest of the of foo fighters since I was 4years old and went to see him when I was 5 and Dave Grohl has been my favourite singer and foo fighters as my favourite band
***** tell that to roger ebert and christgau. how about coming with some counterarguments instead of cowering behind the "i'd like to see you do better" like a bitch?
steve smithson I actually really like itm maybe im some weird minority of people that listen to the foos. But I feel this is actually going to be one intense album!
Give me the flammable life I'm cold as a match, ready to strike So, here I go Here lies a city on fire Singing along The arsonist choir Now, here I go It started with a spark And burning to the dark Now, here I go There is a river I've found Into the wild Under the ground So, here I go A button on a string And I heard everything Now here I go Oh, sweet ignition, be my fuse You have no choice, you have to choose Bid farewell to yesterday Say goodbye, I'm on my way But in the end, we all Come from what's come before So, here I go Oh, sweet ignition, be my fuse You have no choice, you have to choose Bid farewell to yesterday Say goodbye, I'm on my way I threw it all away because I had to be what never was Been so hungry I could lie Took my word, I took your wine And held you in my bloody hands These rattled bones and rubber bands Washed them in the muddy water Looking for a dime and found a quarter But you can't make me change my name You'll never make me change my name Pay no mind, now, ain't that something? Fuck it all, I came from nothing I'm something from nothing You are my fuse I'm something from nothing You are my fuse It goes oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh It goes oh, oh, oh Alright No, you can't make me change my name You'll never make me change my name Pay no mind, now, ain't that something? Fuck it all, I came from nothing I'm something From nothing I'm something From nothing
My Dad got me into this band, which consequently got me into Nirvana, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil and Bring me the Horizon. Thank you so much Dad; I owe you one
Though I am a fan of your silly videos like "Learn to Fly" and "Walk", it's rather refreshing to see a video like this, which is effectively just seven guys rocking out and having the time of their fucking lives.
..Absolutely tho simple there is subtle progression through out the video to link with the song.. The lights moving towards them as the tempo builds.. Just an impressive all round product from them...
long battle with a lot of shit, and this song made me decide to not kill myself and to do whatever it takes to get on my feet & make music again… love you foos. love and miss you so bad taylor. thank you. ❤️ update: got this tattooed on my leg as a reminder. keep going even if it’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done. you’re here for a reason.
I'm inspired. I want to be in a band. I want to pick up those sticks. I want to hit em in a loving pattern. Dave once said, "Don't look at the poster on your wall and think 'fuck i could never do that!'. Look at the poster on your wall and think 'fuck, i'm gonna do *that*!" I thought of a band name, too. I don't want to let it out though, someone might steal it.
grandpaJoeWCG If you really want to play in a band, first learn how to play your instrument and then after a year or so you could find online a band that needs a drumer/guitarist/bassist and you should search for gigs that are close to you... We play in a friends basement and he is my neighbour. Good luck !
Everything in this album sounds a little like someone else on purpose. They were exploring the heritage where they and all other rock and roll bands came from, hence ,something from nothing.
In my humble opinion this is the most aggressive and the best Foo Fighter song I've ever heard. The plug noise in the solo was perfect, and the guitar tone was fucking beautiful. It really bit just right. Lyrics were incredible I would like to see what you guys would do if this song was the stylistic frame work for a whole album. Just an entire album of the heaviest Foo possible.. A Vulgar Display of Foo? Yea, you guys have my attention but if you did an album like this song, you would steal my soul.
+IPushHard lol Ive been getting some comments on my comment... Came by to say thanks ended up playing the video again... and DAM if that solo doesn't get me every time. I could seriously slice that short piece and just loop it for an hour! Glad that so many feel same on this! Maybe they even see a RU-vid comment sometimes and are sharpening their picks like battle axes for just such an album? Why not? They have owned everything else already. May as well have some more fun and kick the dam wall down. Then watch all the industry ears perk up again! ahhh well, we can dream. Thanks
Foo Fighters Lyrics "Something From Nothing" Give me the flammable life I'm cold as a match Ready to strike So here I go... Here lies a city on fire Singing along The arsonist choir Now here I go... It started with a spark And burned into the dark Now here I go... There is a river I found Into the wild Under the ground So here I go... A button on a string And I heard everything Now here I go... Oh sweet ignition be my fuse You have no choice you have to choose Bid farewell to yesterday Say goodbye I'm on my way But in the end we all Come from what's come before So here I go... Oh sweet ignition be my fuse You have no choice you have to choose Bid farewell to yesterday Say goodbye I'm on my way I threw it all away because I had to be what never was Been so hungry I could lie You took my word I took your wine And held you in my bloody hands These rattled bones and rubber bands Washed them in the muddy water Looking for a dime and found a quarter But you can't make me change my name You'll never make me change my name Pay no mind now ain't that something Fuck it all! I came from nothing I'm something From nothing You are my fuse I'm something From nothing You are my fuse It goes... Oh oh oh... Oh oh oh... Oh oh oh... It goes... Oh oh oh... All Rise! No you can't make me change my name You'll never make me change my name Pay no mind now ain't that something Fuck it all! I came from nothing I'm something From nothing I'm something From nothing
There is no shame in borrowing a riff, they didn't copy the whole damn thing, in fact you can hear a lot of similar riffs in music, with so much music out these days, stuff is bound to be similar
I've listened to this song a couple of times now, but just now I realised how powerful and beautiful Dave's lyrics are. The guy is simply a legend, and so as the legacy this band will leave for us
My Favorite Foo Fighters song, and one of my favorites by anyone, ever ... Best Part? When Guest Guitarist Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick comes in after the second verse and the chorus and rips through those Power Chords starting at 2:56 ... Fantastic
