Food Barrel - What do We Pack?

Hi 89TAPOUT, I bought my 30 litre food barrel at Nova Craft Canoes in London, Ontario. They have a retail/outfitting store beside the canoe factory. Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC) also sell them...$45 for the 30 litre and $60 for the 60 litre size. The carrying harness is extra, another 50 bucks or so, but a must have on long portages. You can probably buy them from places like Killarney Outfitters or Algonquin Outfitters. Cheers -Wayne-

There are lots of great lakes/sites in Killarney. The fiollowing lakes and site numbers were all pretty nice... Balsam 113 & 116, David 102, 103 & 104(all near Silver Peak trail), Three Narrows 52(near some great hiking), Nellie 142, 143 & 144(crystal clear acid rain lake), Grace 18(one of the prettiest lakes), Murray 148 &149(excellent fishing!) , Howry 151, Three Mile 75 and Van Winkle 145 & 162(two nice island sites) Hope that helps -Wayne-

Good Question hoightboyd. Power drinks are in plastic containers (not glass)and get re-used as extra water bottles throughout the trip. Beer tins are alloweed on Crown land and in non-operating parks, but be responsible and always crush the tin and pack it out with you as we always do. Cheers -Wayne-

Hi 89TAPOUT We only hang the food barrel at night, and we just make sure that all of our food is in it as well as any snacks, soap or toothpaste that might have been out during the day in a daypack or elsewhere. -Wayne-

The secret to freezing beer is not to leave it in the freezer overnight, but rather give it a good chill for 2 or 3 hours so it just begins to freeze, then take it out before the ends of the cans explode and wrap it in newspaper. It should stay nice and cold for one or two days depending on the air temperature.

nice instructional video ..but what about the can and bottle ban in all parks

How is this transported along with your packs ?

I'm a fan, but freezing beer doesn't work.

Also what I do... get some good vitamins to top up your bodies daily requirements that you may not be able to get from the food you are bringing.
