I've actually eaten fresh cacao beans. They're not that bad. They tast nothing like chocolate, but they do have a coffee-like bitterness to them. I would never regularly have them as a snack, but if there was a bowl of them at a party (for some weird reason) I'd take a few.

Speaking of the coffee comparison, it’s interesting how the flavor of cacao can differ substantially. I generally consider anything over ~75% bitter tasting, but I had a Chocolove bar that was 88% extra dark whose cacao had such a full and fruity flavor it didn’t even taste bitter at all.

I'm not sure what you taste buds call bitter but, as someone who is kind of snobby if it comes to chocolate and has eaten quite a few pure chocolate beans, and self made roasted chocolate beans and nibs and 100% chocolate, and doesn't like it if something tastes bitter The skin of chocolate beans you can buy have sometimes- or often gone bad, and since they are a bit bitter, and stuff that has gone bad often has a stronger, but kind of wrong taste the whole bean tastes bitter. so if you eat the bean without the skin, or just as nibs, or some that haven't gone bad yet they don't really taste very bitter and a lot more like chocolate- of course it also comes down to the kind of bean, how it was for example roasted and where it grew (Apparently you can sometimes taste which other plants grew close to the cacao tree if you have a good 100% chocolate, my mum and I tried it once with a few chocolates and we had a pretty good success rate) Aaaaand I want chocolate, dang it

In the Netherlands we call "chocolate bars" that's under the guidelines of naming it chocolate "cocoa fantasy". Koetjesreep (or cowbar) is a perfect example. This was a candybar that tasted like chocolate but there isn't enough in it to call it legally "chocolate".

I dont wanna sound offended, I just wanna share what I've learned in some baking channels I've watched..Fake chocolate or---mocklate (Im sorry that made me laugh a little) isn't exactly a bad thing--I found out that some bakers use fake chocolate to decorate cakes, its said that it melts slower so its good for making very thin decorations. Anyway I love your content and I subbed to all 3 beautiful channels. You're the reason I still have a brain ☺☺☺

As an Arkansan, I honestly have no excuse for the starbursts. All I can say, is once I was stressed out, sitting in the hallway in middle school, because my class was basically sceaming and I had undiagnosed ADHD and cared about my grades, honestly sitting out of the classroom barely helped. I was doing busywork when a substitute I recognized walked by, and saw me. She asked if everything was okay, and I lightly vented about my frustrations. She was in a hurry to get to her classroom, but she gave me something before she turned the corner. A starburst. A pink one too. Now anytime I see starbursts, a candy I'm generally meh about, I get a happy memory and wanna get some. They were a pretty common school candy to offer from peers and from teachers as rewards, since they wouldn't melt, and were unlikely to cause a mess.

I like how the agreement companies had to sign was to "reduce" their reliance on child labor and not eliminate it, they know these companies pretty much rely on this and you know someone had to lobby in favor of keeping child labor.

0:33 I make hot chocolate by melting dark chocolate, I started it when I was a kid, probably around 7. I’m 20 years older, and still do it. I use chocolate bars meant for baking, so they’re really dark. It’s great when it’s winter here in Norway. Everyone said you couldn’t melt it into a good liquid, but put some milk in, and a bit of cream (and it’s weird, but I put a tiny bit of water in to melt it before I add milk), it turns out so good if you use Norwegian chocolate. I haven’t even changed the way I make it that much, the way I did it the first time was already perfect.

Hi everyone, im sure im not the only dutchie here, but chocoladeletters are not for Christmas but for sinterklaas, it's a yearly tradition, and he "comes" from Spain every year, then in most households you will put your shoe somewhere in your house around like a door or a fireplace, and then the "pieten" will "come" and give you one gift, and on December 5th "sinterklaas" or a "piet" will knock on your door with gifts for everyone in your household

@@christrontherobot4100 The point is that it's impossible to completely stop cold turkey. You can't compete as a business if you're doing all your work in America. So you make small changes that add up over time. Just like taking small steps to improve your life, or saving for retirement. It's the little things that'll add up over time. Even a 1% reduction would probably mean millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars not going towards child labor. BUT, now who's paying these kids what they need to survive? There's a REASON they're working to start with. Thus even stopping the use of child labor completely doesn't solve the ROOT of the issue. It's too much for me to explain in one comment.

@@Speed001 yeah, that really seems more like an issue for the countries they live in to work on, rather than us though. Because while yes, I can agree that companies shouldn't use child labor, the companies aren't the problem, they're moreso just taking advantage of the problem (which, don't get me wrong, isn't much better really). And I mean, child slavery obviously isn't good, and companies shouldn't be complicit in those things, but it's the people who actually run those countries who need to make the decision to ban it like we did, and fix the issues that led to children having to work like that in the first place. Because you're probably right, those kids are working for a reason, and the sooner their governments can solve that reason, the sooner these kids don't have to work anymore, and can just be kids. Hopefully they can figure out those issues, where they come from and how to fix them, because yeah, that's not good. Children shouldn't be dealing with hard labor like that...

This is the reason we haven't purchased Hershey's (and others) candy bars in 30 years. Not to mention the High Fructose Corn Syrup and Canola in many of the candy bars. We DO NOT BUY!
