When my Dad was 95 he fell off his bicycle in 20 degree weather (after riding 21 miles) and broke his hip. While in the hospital they offered him fish and chips and banana cream pie for dinner. He was so disgusted, I ended up cooking for him and bringing it into the hospital for 10 wks till he could come home. The only healthy meal was breakfast where he was offered oatmeal and an orange. Hospitals need to step up their game.

Dr. Greger cited flax seed oil for arthritic knees....so I tried it, not imagining that there could be any relief to my aching arthritic knees. However, the flax seed oil almost immediately took the pain away from my knees!!!!!!!!!! I am using it still with excellent results. God bless you, Dr. Greger!!!!!!!!

Flax oil is omega 3 which decreases inflammation and that's why it worked. With regard to the lady asking how much, Dr brooke goldner starts with 3 tablespoons a day I believe, and increases as necessary. Dr. Goldner gets rid of pretty much all health conditions known to man with her raw vegan diet, but specialises in autoimmune conditions, of which arthritis is one. For information, watch her wellness wednesday episodes on youtube, which she started doing at the end of 2022 every Wednesday.

Do you mind telling me how much oil you take? Is it just a dropper or do you add to food. I’m Whole Foods plant based and healthy except for painful arthritis in my hands.

@@robinsaxophone232 The chapter explains to apply 20 drops to the affected joint and rub it in 3 times a day. It also lists sesame oil and extra-virgin olive oil for similar results. With sesame oil, the test was done with hot compress-it may be worthwhile to get the book for reference. If you are only interested in this section you could check it out from library. I checked out the kindle version and having fun looking up various topics😊

You can tell this book is for young people. Because the print is very small. I have gotten more from these interviews and now have my Brazil nut every morning. I have my teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon, I put cacao in my coffee, fat with my greens, having my black cumin, berries every morning. We started eating plant-based 21/2 years ago. There's a huge amount of stress in my life that I can't control so it's heartening to hear from Dr Greger that I can still live a long and healthy life provided I take care of what I eat. I have been WFPB and slim for over 4 years now and it's increased my quality of life (and mood/mental health) no end. I look good and am healthy for the first time in my life at 58. I've just finished reading Dr Greger's How not to Age, very clearly written so don't be put off by the scientific content. Bottom line: just eat a variety of whole plant food, that's the best you can do to live a long, healthy and happier life.

How much research was done on the happiness/depression factor? Sounds odd to me. Studies show that (for example) people with ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) die 20 percent sooner than their peers. Are you attributing that 20 percent to poor life choices? An old (ex) friend used to cry to me in our 20s that her father was killing himself with his alcoholism and chain smoking. Literally cry. My parents, her mother, and all the adult friends are all gone now except for her father, who never stressed anything and didn't mind upsetting others with his habits. He's well into his 90s now. That said, I'm all vegan, do yoga and lift weights. I feel pretty well but I've had health issues and wonder if my alcoholic narcissist neighbor who eats meat all the time will live longer than me because he has no conscious, no empathy.

Stress can cause us to prepare less, take less care for our environment and cram whatever we see in our mouths, all which lead us to making unhealthy choices. People have been dealing with stress for a very long time. Much more than today in many, many ways. I’ll take a more stressful life and a healthier lifestyle any day. Although stress to the body does deplete magnesium, and we all know the effects of low magnesium. You’re going to outlive your neighbor. Just look both ways before crossing the street and stay inside if you hear gunshots. If you’re eating pretty well and still running into health hurdles, you may enjoy Peter Rogers MD’s RU-vid channel. I was 60% there but now I see things more clearly. Simplicity. I was missing the simplicity. Stay well, friend.

This was a nice talk. I'm a big fan of Dr. Greger and the Exam Room podcast/RU-vid channel. I'd like to add my thoughts on why so many people choose 80-years-old as the time they'd like to die, as I'm one of them. So not everyone wants to live forever, or even to 100. There are those of us who can't wait until this life is over with. The thought of having to live with the advanced stages of climate change and the extreme heat is very scary. Not everyone is wealthy, and the thought of having to work until 70 and beyond really sucks. The thought of having to live in a theocratic fascist society is super depressing. Having to live among those with a disgustingly large amount of wealth, while so many of us have to toil away in jobs we hate and with incomes that barely pay the bills is incredibly unfair and gross. And on and on. So yeah, many of us just want to hit 80 and die and get out of this crappy existence and be done with it all.

24:00 actually talking with holocaust survivors - I did notice that even though they lacked food - they ate so many of the discards that're healthier than the desired food - like vegetables - then they ended up being healthier and with fewer ills than being in the holocaust in certain ways. Of course that little bit of a health boost isn't going to overcome the starvation that was worse than not eating, but because it was fasting and eating healthier options - that was a health boost strangely enough among the unhealthiness of starvation - it's like a (making up numbers here) - 20% lifespan boost for an 80% chance of dying from it. Is this why some holocaust survivors live really long? I feel as dr greger says - it's likely the lack of the impacts of the brca 1 gene that helps, but maybe with those that did survive, the vegetables and fasting led to some longevity too. I don't believe it's really long lived, because of the desires to not remember the trauma - and go back to what wasn't forced upon them, but I bet that little bit of time could've had lasting effects of longevity on top of everything else if they didn't outright die from going in a veg-fasting direction. As Dr. Greger says - if it's not forced - then it could lead to longevity, but if it's forced - then it could lead to starvation - because if we're not in control, then we could suffer greatly.

🙏♥️♥️♥️Always interesting to follow research based life style - and in this interesting interview I especially remarked the testing of the inflammatory index of foods - and detailsalg as eating spermidine found in beans and of course the 60 Minute moderate activity like brisk walking sounds also as an easy and very attractive advice to me 🍀💚😊

I was in Kokomo, Indiana working when McDonalds converted a location to sit down dining with waitstaff and a healthier menu (2004?). One of the managers switched to another location and got sick (from eating too much McDonald's and junk food). I think the converted location switched back (and healthier food considered a bussiness failure?).

I once read years ago that Kokomo, Indiana had the highest per capita fast food restaurants of any town in the USA.

Is freeze dried strawberry powder same as eating fresh strawberries in terms of nutrients?

It is pretty close. Fresh picked is best of course, but we can't all have that. Freeze dried has many benefits similar, if frozen soon after picked.
