As an obese woman in early 30's I can say that my ankles were always swollen, all the time, even if I wasn't active for a whole day or had my feet elevated. There was nothing I could do that improved it and I had it since my early 20's. I went low carb and voilà, magic happened in days/weeks. I no longer have swollen ankles.

Glad to hear that. Losing weight certainly helps whether it's low carb, low fat or intermittent fasting. Just need to end up in a caloric deficit

@@m.esmeraldacaceres3171 Yup. I had gained some weight and they swelled up. Lost the eright and the swelling. But I also found that eating foods with table salt did the same thing, so I switched to only using sea salt or pink Himalayan salt. No problems with those.

Funny. Mine always look better when I eat my high carb plant based diet, mine goes away in a matter of days. Strange how we are all different and what works for one won't work for another.

I've had a curious, mild case of leg edema for my entire adult life. It got to be bad when I went all-plant. Zero-carb carnivore has eliminated it, as long as I don't eat a minimum of 8 hours before bedtime, something that was impossible when having to dose myself with carbs throughout the day on a carb-inclusive diet.

I got swollen feet and ankles, so I went to a podiatrist. I can't remember the details of what he said or did, other than him just saying to rest. I asked a friend of mine, whose an anathesiologist. She said to just rest also, as I had been walking excessively. The problem did go away, but a couple years later came back, after walking excessively. I just continued to walk, and not worry about it. What then happened, was I overcame a chronic lowered back pain, I had for 20 years ! That was 2 years ago, still no back pain, and no more swollen feet and ankles.

This is scary! I’ve been talking on my IPhone telling people about my right foot being swollen and “Boom” I get one You Tube and here you guys are! I have been having severe Diabetic Neuropathy in both my feet. Such a nightmare! Been working on self helping and I have better nights now. Out of the clear blue 3 days ago my right foot became swollen. I get very little relief form resting it , but ice packs seem to help more. I am on water pills and I have congestive heart failure, but no problem for years. I keep debating about going to emergency room. Going to ice it all night and pray I wake up with a normal size ankle/foot. Thanks for info! Great job of explaining what might be the causes! I appreciate by our sharing!🙏❤️

Another great video Docs! Now we have the skinny on swelling feet and ankles! The first one is to not put rice on your feet, brown or white (rice)! When I was younger I sprained my ankles so many times, usually from slipping on ice. How's that for ironic! I live in a state with very little winter, rarely ice or snow. Now that I'm older I occasionally have swollen feet. Usually elevating my feet does the trick and sometimes I use compression stockings. It generally lasts a day or two then everything's okay. I've been given the water pills before, HTZT and others but they haven't really helped the swelling. Fortunately it's not an everyday occurrence. And the measures I take seem to work just fine. As usual you've given us the information to tell what's wrong with our feet or ankles and the best way to treat them. My sister-in-law has lymphoedema and her legs are swollen all the time! But she's had many lymph nodes removed and is on a constant regimen for treating this condition. She even has a therapy machine for daily treatment. It's just some of the things she deals with but is now cancer free! Sometimes you're left with a lifetime of treatment for something that lengthens your life! But these treatments are a small price to pay for extending your life! Thanks for sharing another great video! 👍

Okay Docs, I live in a pretty steadily humid area but still my skin is always ashy and dry. It started about a year ago. I’ll be 62 in October. I went thru menopause in my mid 40’s, and bless me, I had no issues except hot flashes, which I took Estroven for, and by 50 I was done! Oh jeez, is there actually a vitamin, mineral, or something that could help? Lotions don’t help much, just make me feel sticky or greasy and worse when it’s super humid. I do take a multivitamin and some other supplements. OK, thank you for your time. Happy Days, SMB. 💖🇺🇸😁. Yeah, my right foot is fat and ugly. I know I should elevate it occasionally during the day but really!? I was diagnosed with MS in ‘97(?), a few years later Raynaud’s and osteo arthritis. I’m just blessed to be alive and kickin’. I can’t walk without help and then only 50 yards tops but then I can’t see even that far. So in my little world as long as the powers that be don’t blow us all to kingdom come or the planet comes to some other horrific destruction I’m okay. God luv y’all, 🙏🏼🌎💖🇺🇸. 😝

Hi Docs. I know this about different questions on another subject. I was wondering if you could do a new video regarding shoulder reversal staph infections. How rare is it if you had the surgery 5 months prior and had no infection, then you get it. Had happened to me in June 2023. I had two emergency surgeries, and one of my bones got a partial break while they were removing the device. Then after that surgery, they thought I had a stroke which it wasn't, hopefully, by the end of Sept. I can have my revision done. But can you explain if you will get the infection again? What happens to your shoulder will ever be usable again? I am scared to have 6th operation on my shoulder. I am only 53. The last video you made was 7 years ago. I was wondering what is the long haul after the revision. If you have time I would like to know. Thanks

I am interested if you could talk about vasovagal syncope. I was diagnosed with it almost two and a half year ago. I would like to hear your take on the nerve (Never X) side of it. My cardiologist is vehemently against me wanting to get a second opinion, how do you get a second opinion in Ontario? I asked my family doctor, and she said she got in a bit of hot water with this cardiologist when she wrote a referral to another doctor. I do faint about twice a week, and so far I have been able to cope with it. Coping as in recognizing the triggers, staying hydrated, keep my BP under control (it is often very low after an incident) and certainly make sure my blood sugars (A1C) remain below 5.8/6.0. As a borderline diabetic, I see my family doctor every three months.

For me, partly was my weight. Then, as I lost weight, my cardiologist said, after a full workup, leaking of the Great saphenous vein in both legs (had ablation in both). My left foot is still an issue, but my arch collapsed in that foot, and I have inflammation of the tendons.

In May 2015 I had a mid-foot fusion and a calcanial osteotomy (hope I spelt them correctly) on my right foot. Oh, and I broke a bone in the same ankle around that time. I then had total knee replacement in October that hear. My foot has been swollen since then! 🙂

Hi, i have been using compression socks for the past ten years. However, sometimes the rim of the socks create a constriction under my knees and seem to cause cramping in my legs. How can i deal with this.

I had acute compartment syndrome of my left lower leg 3 years ago. Thankfully, I recovered well but my ankle and foot are constantly swollen, despite exercise etc. what is the likelihood of it ever returning to a normal size? Thanks in advance 😊

Love this information. But I had severe ankle swelling when I went off WFPB for two weeks while visiting family. Ate typical salty processed American food for two weeks and my ankles swelled to the point of pain. I never had this problem before and unsure of the cause but it was painful. Also my BP went high above 140 where it was in the 120s. Not sure exactly why but found the SAD (Standard American Diet) doesn't work for me. So...salt, , processed foods or a combo do not know but it wasn't good. Also it took months for me to get BP back into the 120s.

I would get swelling on left foot. If I reduced my salt intake and elevate my feet it would go away. One stretch of time my foot would swell then go away then swell and go away. Three times in a row. Then I noticed that while elevating my foot the pillow placement had a great effect. If I placed the pillow underneath the Achilles tendon and let my heel hang over the pillow That position would stop the blood flow to my foot and cause it to swell. So now I place just my heel on the pillow letting the blood flow. Hence no more problems.

I am 65 yrs old, over weight by 60 - 65 lbs. Over the past year, I've had progressively more swollen feet and ankles, more in my left foot, less so in my right foot. Just yesterday I put on my Timberland Boots and initially felt what I would describe as tingling pain. I believe it's my kidney that was only 60% effective the last time I saw a physician about 4-5 years ago. About 2 yrs ago I had worn some boots with thick socks during the winter here in Minneapolis, MN. The left side of my left big toe rolled over, and essentially folded my toe nail over for a time. For a series of weeks and months. In the beginning, my toe nail would cycle between getting better and getting worse. My toe nail would get better, then worse, get better then worse. I'm guessing (I think correctly) that it would cycle between having an infection and healing, though never quite completely. I've repeatedly reminded myself, told myself to go see a doctor. However, I don't have a "family" doctor. I've never been a drinker, smoker, drug abuser, or gambler. Even when I was given every reason to medicate myself and be out of control when I was 13 yrs old and sexually assaulted participating in the Boy Scouts of America in 1972. I've generally been an athlete and active most of my life. Except for the past 10 years. The past year especially, I stopped buying loaves of bread, and started drinking tea. Cold tea kept in the fridge. I've been working to reduce my sugar intake, but it's been hard. I'm mostly successful, but not where I believe I need to be. I believe exercising would be very helpful. And, I want to increase my exercise by joining a gym (YMCA locally) because I mostly I know I feel better when I do. However, my motivation is a challenge. I would love to hear what you two think, understanding it would be an opinion and not a diagnosis. Thanks for your videos. David

Thanks for the informative and entertaining videos. I had a stroke 16 months ago. It was a bad one but still I’m alive. I now have less feeling in the lower stroke leg and foot and my foot swells so I have to be careful with my choice of footwear. I’m 64 and slim but, as well as other stroke-related problems, the foot swelling is a problem because I need to keep active but walking does tend to make my foot swell. It’s like a vicious circle. Any ideas?

Good morning Doctors, I have a question: My older daughter who is in her early 30s, now lives in Canada, and recently drove down with her husband to visit me in So Cal, I noticed immediately her legs and feet looked swollen. I know she sits at a computer all day at her job and when she's home, spends time gaming on her computer. Is there something you can recommend she can do besides the obvious of maybe taking shorts intermittent walks around the room or work facility to get the blood flowing in her body better or what ever would be causing the fluid build up in her legs and feet? I appreciate any suggestions I can send over to her.

I only swell up when I am traveling on a cruise. Besides a medication, is there anything else I can do? I try to stay as hydrated and add lemon into my water but anything else that could work more naturally instead of medication?
