I show you some foot strengthening exercises for hiking and share my physiotherapy knowledge with you. For these exercises you will need an open space on the floor/ground.
Improving your foot strength for hiking can decrease your chances of developing an injury.
If you feel like you would benefit from physiotherapy, you could find a physiotherapist (physical therapist) near you. Or, you could book with mine (details below).

Really great set of exercises that take up little space and you don't need access to expensive equipment. Thank-you for taking the time to explain the rationale for the exercises!

Impressive to see how many stabilizer muscles activate during single leg exercises. This highlighted that I would like to practice my single-leg balance.

Glad you found it difficult! Single leg balance is always a good thing to work on (as long as it's safe for you to)

As I’ve entered my 70’s, I’ve noticed my balance has deteriorated, and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to improve it. I think these exercises will help me regain the ability put my pants on without leaning on my bed. 😅 Thank you for the great demonstration!

That’s super common for balance to deteriorate! But the good news is that it can definitely improve with practice! Hope these exercises help :)

Thanks for these tips! What if your big toes only lift with your little toes when standing (all toes lifted at the same time)? For some reason I can only isolate one set of toes if I’m holding the other down 😟

Try practicing sitting first and really focussing on it. If you can't isolate the movement at first, the more you try to do it, the more likely you eventually will be able to. Try to avoid holding the toes down with anything (like your hand or other foot) and just use the movement of your toes on their own. Eventually you might start to notice your ability to isolate the movement improves. Hope that helps!
