The Dragon concept is one of the more basic passing concepts in football. It’s used at all levels and is a great Cover 3 play that attacks the flat defender and lets the quarterback read off of their movement.

Hey I love your videos. I was wondering if you could do a packers saints breakdown on what went wrong with the packers defense. Because I watched the fangio scheme video and was really excited but obviously disappointed with the packers last weekend.

Absolutely. Put that down as an idea on Sunday. Not the start Green Bay was hoping for. I don't understand for the life of me while Kevin King is still out there. The front also had significant issues getting pushed around. Still waiting on All-22 to become available, but we may get a better look at how Joe Barry wants to play his defense after a couple weeks.

@@WeeklySpiral I don't remember if you said anything about it, but is it normal in that defense for corners to play near 10 yards off like the Packers do? I almost feel like we set King up for failure, he's too slow to recover, he needs to be jamming the reciever. That being said Eric Stokes is a beast and I think he's gonna be really good. Just don't understand why we aren't challenging the wide recievers. I also remember you talking about pressure being important in the defense. Hopefully when Z is healthy again the pressure comes back.

10 is usually a lot. Normally you see them closer at about 6 or so, but sometimes coordinators will give the corners the freedom to play off or closer if they feel more comfortable there. That’s been an Achilles heel of King, though. Not situationally aware and playing off on 3rd and short or not using his physicality. The Packers had a lot of success against the Bucs when they started blitzing in the second half. If you can’t get pressure with your front four, you can’t just sit there and get torn apart. Gary played great Sunday but everyone else was pretty invisible

Is there another term for dragon concept?

Slant/Flat is the more simple name. Otherwise, every team might call it something slightly differently in their own playbooks. As far as general terms go, Dragon is the most used.

@@WeeklySpiral Is there a difference between the Dragon and the Arrow concepts? To me they look identical.

@@danielmolnar5886 What's the arrow concept to you? It might be the same concept, just under a different name.

@@WeeklySpiral #1 receiver runs slant, Y runs flat AKA arrow. Truth is, you can run Arrow out of trips too with the two outside receivers both running slants and the innermost slot receiver running flat. That might be a slight difference between the two?

@@danielmolnar5886 Sounds like the same concept to me.
