Breaking news dropped that Football Manager will be getting a new engine: Unity! This will mean that we will get better graphics, a new User Interface and better animations, perhaps getting to the level of FIFA! But is it as great of news as we think it is? Watch the video to find out whether Unity will be the best or the worst thing to happen to FM!

I'd be fairly happy with it looking similar to how it does now, but with sensible design decisions, mod-ability and no serious loss of functionality. A fantastic looking match engine would be great, but I'd rather wait a year for that than them give us the improved match engine at the expense of something more fundamental.

i guess with complexity and beauty of unity engine, we will see much more hidden stats that related with infamous fm stats to be smoothly work in unity ME. If only depends on current Stats i afraid it will be much same with current ME.

Yeah, would be interesting to see which stats they could incorporate with the new engine. Which stat do you miss the most with the current game?

From the Studio point of view, moving to Unity it's great. It allows you to look for more and better developers, that don't need to be trained in a custom engine, and let you focus in adding more features. FM it's kind of a niche, and I don't think it will backfire, most of us will continue to support the franchise. I'm not really sure if there's a market for modding FM outside aesthetics. Personally, the feature I like the most from the announcement, it's for FM24, and it's the ability to migrate save games.

Some good points you make! I wonder if the new wave of developers that joined SI this last year were selected on capabilities with Unity... I'm expecting the modding market for FM to grow with the new engine. I think a lot of cool things can be done, but haven't been done yet just because the current engine doesn't allow it. Love to hear that you're looking forward to the save migration feature! Which save are you looking to carry over?

@@coachroan I would love to bring back my FM15 save, but I don't really think it would be affected by this feature.

@@marcelo.origoni don't know if they've clarified how far back we can go when carrying over saves, but my feeling is that we'll indeed probably only be able to carry over FM23 saves. Such a shame, as a lot of nostalgia is still with our older saves! What was your favourite save in FM15?

@@coachroan I started with Arsenal, stayed for 5 years, quitting mid season, after some disagreements with the board. I then got offered to manage Argentina and stayed there until 2024, after the Copa America. Then it was Cagliari for 10 seasons, when my star striker retired, I left the club, and took over Italy. And since my striker didn't stay in football, I added a new manager after him, who took over Cesena in Serie C. I skipped like 5 versions of FM (despite buying them all) Bringing back my Bologna save from FM22 would be good aswell

Be fair how can you judge whether it’s a blessing or a curse when you haven’t seen anything? So I expect problems to start with? Yes but the game has only really been an update for years now Finally it will be massive changes and I can’t wait

Improvements on performance in Unity? Press X to doubt. It's a generalized engine, so it's obviously going to have more overhead. Unity is also notorious for having poor performance. So performance is the #1 worry I have. I for one would be VERY surprised if can get the same performance out of this new engine.
