Episode 124:
Grand Funk Railroad's fifth studio album, E Pluribus Funk, was released in November, 1971, and contained the lead track which would soon become the opening song at most of their live shows. "Footstompin' Music" added somewhat of an unexpected layer to the power trio's sound. Starting off on Hammond organ, Farner navigates his was through the first verse and chorus before seamlessly transitioning to guitar during the second verse. The guitar solo then climaxes just before Farner heads back to the organ for the final chorus. All the while Don Brewer, and Mel Shacher lay down a driving, pulsing Gospel inspired beat.
OTW is engineered and mixed by Richard Williams @ Plum Tree Recording Studio.
One Take Weekly aims to present a sneak peek inside a studio recording session, each track performed and filmed in one take - imperfections & all. No overdubs, NO AUTOTUNE, and no trick-photography! (Just good mixing...& my nearly inept video editing skills) What you see is what you hear - CE.
