This analysis focuses purely on the Warden's weapons, armor, and anything else interesting. We start by trying to figure out what pieces of armor the Warden has and what they correlate with historical finds that we have. I try to talk about how practical some things are along with how accurate they might be in a historical setting.

I've heard that they wanted full plate for warden but the model kept stretching the metal as it twisted. Since it was too late to make warden a new model, they changed to the chain/gambeson/random armor we see now. Since warden was the first hero made, this issue extended to the other heroes, except lawbringer, whose model is built around letting him move in full plate.

I get the reasoning behind that, but we are at the point where the community for the most part wouldn't care about those minor details. They are no longer trying impress a giant crowd at E3, instead they should make an effort to appease their long time fans. Even if that means a little bit of unrealistic stretching every now and then. What funny is that it's not like they haven't done it before. If you watch my Centurion Pt.1 analysis, you can see that even in the Centurions Muscle Cuirass, it warps, bends, and stretches whenever he bends down or jumps in the air or does his Eagle's Talon. No one really complains though because aesthetically he is very pleasing to look at and, unless you're me, you most likely won't be breaking down things frame by frame to look at their animations. Definitely not an excuse, the Japanese are wearing full armour as well as other characters. Issue isn't lack of full armour either, the armour just doesn't look historical, the configuration doesn't make sense and in my opinion all of the armour in this game is horrible to look at. There's plenty of lighter armoured configurations for 15th century armour seen in art. The Wardens and other Europeans likely actually look like they do because the art designers were inspired by other generic pop culture and unaware or not inspired by anything related to history, probably both. There's also a popular stereotype and expectation of the big, clunky, grimy European warrior whether it be a Viking or a Knight that this game runs with. Historically accurate fashion and armour configurations completely subvert these expectations, they're pretty flamboyant.

Depends, by full cloak do you mean like a big ass Jon Snow one? Then I dig it, but I don't know if the physics engine would like it much as it would probably get in the way a lot especially with how erratic Warden's movements are. If you mean like one that they have for Cent and LB then I don't know why they haven't done it yet. Either one I think would be great.

You say warden looks like he's broke. I've rarely put any thought into this, but I think you are right. I also think he's got bad spending habits (buying cheap rich guy belts that fall apart easy, small capes, probably tried to look cool for his battle buddies 😂)

Hate to be that guy, but it's all in the lore. After the great cataclysm, the factions all lost a lot of knowledge and money, so it makes sense that they're all super poor.

And about Warden's cape... it also can be a symbol or something of his status as member of Warden's Order or something (because you cab put profile's emblem on it). And it clear that devs really wanted give him a normal cape, but engines limitations does not allows this (Warden was first character ever created)

I might just do a quick overview of the entire roster though for fun, but as of right now I don't have any real plans for new videos.

It's mostly because there aren't a lot of videos I have on my channel so RU-vid doesn't personally put my videos on people's recommended (which is okay because it's not like this is my job), that's why I just post my videos in places that are relevant to people (like the subreddits) and hopefully people who really like this content will find their way here. I am really glad you enjoyed this video and since these videos were received so positively, I decided to start on the realism analysis for Centurion. I am currently writing the script right now.

As a warden main, I feel the need to mention that there are armor sets that are almost full plate, such as the chilled tomb set.

Now i know i' am crazy :D Again a great video on the subject. It's strange how the dumbest or unsafest things look cool in games or movies. I have no problem with the ingame characters, it's just funny to see the flaws pointed out and get some information what would be more accurate. I think the reason most starter gear looks so used is to make players feel more happy to get new, better looking gear. To go from a fighter better than most common fighters to an even more elite warrior. But to be honest: some characters look pretty good with their starter gear.

I agree but my biggest problem is since all of the base gear the Warden gets are all carbon copies of each other, they all have the same problems. The all have rust and they all have mismatched parts. But overall I'm glad that you like it and I'm glad you understand the main reason I did it was just to kinda poke fun at it. Overall I think they did a really stellar job at making this game at least pseudo realistic. Most than I have seen on other games at least.

I also cant agree more with have a more Gothic steel plate warden That's the thing I always wanted in Forhonor and when I unlocked all the Warden armor I was very disappointed. The only helmets I liked was the Visored Barbute and all the great helms. (except for the fact I hated their breathes.) ALSO WARDENS WEIRD SIRCOAT CAPE THINGY DRIVES ME NUTS only if It could be a proper sir coat my friends on xbox Think I am crazy but I say they just don't understand...

Agreed, a gothic style sallet would probably have been a more thematic option. I personally would also find it aesthetically a lot more pleasing but I'm also a sucker for sallets in general.

@@ajayavsm7476 Nah, it was a Year 1 thing. The only way I think to see it now is to watch on youtube, or start a fresh save of the campaign. The campaign has like a slightly extended cut of it where it shows the arrow that hits the Raider was shot by a Blackstone legion soldier at Apollyon's command, but otherwise it is unviewable in the game like the Hero cinematics for the Harbingers.

My interpretation of For Honor is that the people of For Honor emulate their collective memorial of ancient heroes, and didn't develop their armor from scratch. This is why everything LOOKS like something historical at first glance but inspection reveals just how different it is

For me the fact of attaching a cape with your belt is actually a good thing to do because capes will at best just move around on your back and at worst trouble you by being in your face so he just put his belt on it before the battle so the cape does not get in his eyes. this is just my opinion. on that subject.

He's definitely up there but there are some other pretty good contenders as well, especiaclly on the Samurai side. But for Warden specifically, the thing that makes him stand out the most is the way he stands. It's so specific and unique that if it weren't for that, he would definitely not be as realistic as others. Especially since his armor is... lackluster to say the least. Thanks for watching!

Not really. Some of his equipment is logically impossible (seriously the plates on his arms and body are bolted into his flesh.) and isn't optimized to move or fight in. His weapons are rubbish and he's worse at using them than all of his Eastern counterparts which were shown dramatically more respect.

cloaks were worn for practical use, capes were used for fashion and it would make sense for a noble knight to wear a cape but not in battle as you said, also the thing you call a tabard is actually called a monastic scabula, and were worn by monks

Maybe I need to research more, but I’ve heard multiple times that Greaves and Sabatons are usually reserved for cavalry, as the legs will be the targets for foot soldiers at their eye level. While his little… tabard thing isn’t very protective, and he should get some thigh protection, the poleyn and schynbalds are actually pretty good, assuming the Warden isn’t particularly wealthy. In fact I’d say he should sacrifice that calf protection for thigh protection, with the higher target and arteries galore in terms of the upper leg.

It actually looks like wardens mail shirt actually goes under his torso armour which makes me believe that he is wearing a gambeson, then a mail shirt and then an aketon with plates riveted to it on top of that. Which would mean that he would have two layers of padded armour with mail inbetween them.

What's weird to me is how much better the E3 assets are compared to the ingame ones, even down to three of them having full tabards (which could've easily been used to cover up his chest, if the comment below about the stretching metal is true) and all of them having much better helmets that all seem to be in roughly similar time periods. Even the swords are better than what we see in game!

Hey I just thought of an idea while you were talking about leg protection. What if, a Conq just while Warden was doing like a top heavy, Conq could duck under Warden, mace his calf, then shield bash Warden to the ground, then just beat on Warden’s head and neck. (Also maybe pick up his sword and throw it somewhere so he can’t get it.)

Super late to the part. Past Warden main before I dropped the game, and loved both videos. In my head canon the Wardens civilisation collapsed to such an extent they are trying to piece together whatever hodge podge of knowledge remains and he’s basically mixing and matching things in a desperate situation.

The only thing that I have anything to say about in this really cool video is the blade getting dull. They are hardened to a point of you run a file on the blade the file won’t do anything if the heat treat is done properly. You could do about anything with the blade and not have to worry about it losing the edge. And the thicker blade is too over the edge but it would just increase the strength of the blade tremendously. And not tapering the blade would ensue that you keep that strength all the way through.

The Viking Raider has a Chainmail Helm I think you should have showed when talking about the Obscura, it seems more like what you were talking about in the situation. Great video though! I'm sad I only found this video recently, as I love my Warden (main since Beta) and Medieval realism. Great video! Also, Warden apparently does have some kind of Chain hauberk, or something, because his under arms have Chainmail that seems to go under his "gambeson".

That is a really great point, I will try to remember to cross reference that whenever I get to making a Raider analysis. As for the chainmail hauberk, that does seem like it could be possible, but it could also be some sort of chain mail inserts or voiders to protected the exposed parts of plate armor. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SNC642BK&name=DABM+Chainmail+Voiders++-+Darkened+Mild+Steel+Flat+and+Round+Rings+-+Close+Out Could be one or the other, but I suppose we could give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's wearing chain mail underneath the coat he is wearing especially since he does have some chain mail hanging down beneath his coat. That being said, his newer armor is still better.

I do believe that warden has a chainmail shirt underneath the chestplate. When he raises his arms you can see that his armpit is completely covered and thus I would assume he has a shirt that just gets cut short on the arms.

The Knight Commander in Breach actually had solid tier armor, both fully plated arms and a plate chest piece along with the Arcturus helmet. His standards are tougher than the generic Warden's. I do also believe the Commander had full metal greaves

One of my personal pet peeves of armor in videogames is strechy armor, speacially in Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations, Ezio shoulder armor streched horribly, and seeing how that doesnt happen here is enough for me

Warden actually had a severe gambling addiction and even though he did buy a proper fill set of armor, but gambled some of it away.

My personal opinion (nerd/lore rant ahead) is that once Warden had a full set of armor, but due to constant battle and lack of supplies meant that soldiers resorted to scavenging and piecemeal weapon attachments, and the rust comes from the same constant combat with little to no down time. I know it’s not realistic, but it’s my “lore theory” on why Warden looks like this

i thought to my self that the lame cliche armor is just to look cool, then i thought of the normal warden with full mail under his stock armor and quickly realized that a more historical looking or more protective armor would have looked better hands down.

I really love these videos, great job. I would just like to point out one thing. I understand that realistically one would not let their armor rust, especially not to the degree depicted in this game. They devs are intending a feel that these armies have literally been fighting each other for over one thousand years straight. Resources are very scarce. Fights break out every day, as they are constantly looking to destroy each other, and a lot of the time, civil war breaks out, as well. Many warriors don't have time to rest as they are constantly on the move from one post to another. Plus, it's a different world. You can't really do a historical accuracy video without taking into advisement the actual world THEY live in. Not trying to correct, more like point something out.

Omg you nailed the coffin when u said that the thickness is outrageous in the blade like wtf holy cow who can decapitate anyone with such an outrageous mass of metal like omg it would Infuriate me when I want to see wardens executions with such a blade I’m like how the heck can he cut anything this blades are the most dollies thickest piece of metal ever not to mention everybody has armor on as well it is really killed me any type of hype or desire to play as Warren just how the sheer laziness the way they just made this character like I really dislike that he’s the slow as fuck character he can’t even move I don’t know can we just kill this cliché idea the knights were slow moving tanks and also the blade thickness barely see any blades that actually have edges like for cutting all of that together has killed my desire to wanna play as warden more because I feel like he has alot of in accurate representation of a actual medieval knight they need to check out the witcher 3 that is more accurate on how blades looked like in Europe in medieval times

To try and explain why he has such shoddy and ill put together sets, the world of for honor was in a apocalyptic setting so they had to scavenge pieces as seen In one of the story mode cutscenes, this doesn’t explain lawbro tho but it could be summed up that he was rich or a warlord type of dude and had it put together by his men.

Only your opinion about Warden in full gothic armour? Sounds like a really popular opinion (especially that ancient Warden used sallet)

Well I just said that because I don't to speak for other people. I know it's quite popular though. I am glad you mentioned the "Ancient" Warden from the old E3 trailer because I totally forgot to mention that. So much info it's starts to get overwhelming ya know? need to consider that the wardens giving up armour for mobility, like look at the executions u try to do that shit with a 50kg sword in plated armour with hardened leather and mail, also most of his move sets are very athletic and fast, 1 arm would be more armoured than the other as the stance would have the more armoured dominant arm facing his opponent like a shield, this goes for the rest of his plates there there to stop slashes not punctures that's y hes wearing both mail and padded armour hes actually being very efficient with his armour in both cost and performance you could wear the caritani armour from ds3 and still have its limits on protection. another thing to take in account when finding the origin to his armour is that it is impossible in the for honour world like come on Norway, japan and clearly medieval eastern Europe are ryt next to each other so in game wise where the fuck is Italy or Germany (i'm not saying that its a game and u shouldn't judge i'm saying that u need to take in account that this is a whole different reality and that things are different) and ino your trying to do the history behind his equipment but your contradicting yourself when saying the origins of his equipment like i mean his armour is clearly makeshift for cost and it would be rusted and damaged because it is a post apocalyptic game so god knows where his equipment came from, like i mean 1000 years is bound to do something to the material on his armour im sure he could buy brand new spanking armour but do you know much more expensive it would be after the end of the world...?

Now that you say the warden had a poormans armor...it sorta makes sense since the story of for Honor is they are in the middle of an economic depression from the great cataclysm
