after initial calibration you will most likely get a paramsd error when you try to engage for the first time. all you have to do is reboot the device and it should go away.
Openpilot Experience is still supervised driving. It is safe since you have time to control the car if anything happens. That said the faster you go the less time you have hence the hands on the wheel ready to take over. Hands free vs Hands on is just a perception , whatever rocks your boat is fine.
