The Old Engine needs some help. The Ole Man, NikkiT, and I are going to rebuild the top end of this old 289. Will this give the 1967 Galaxie a little more life. Can this crew bring her back to life? Will the engine run as it should now? Will this engine purr as it should? All these questions answered on this episode of RevStoration.

I once had a 80 Ford Mustang inline 6 cylinder and she quit on me couldn't drive it for 2 Weeks and all it did was turn over, so I put my hands on the valve cover and asked the lord to help me with the mystery and I had an overwhelming feeling to look around on the driver's side fender and I found it, ignition box had some broken wires and I fixed em and she started right up and I never had anymore trouble, except the floor board started falling through lol 🤣🤣🤣 thank you God for helping me.

Good job! You mentioned zinc additive for the oil. Folks that is very important for these cars with flat lifters that rub the cam! Today's oil doesn't have enough zinc additives for these older engines that do not have "roller lifters/cams" in them! Failure to add the zinc to an old "flat tappet" type engine will literally grind your camshaft flat!! You have to add that zinc every oil change too! Good job with the hardened exhaust valve seats too. Very important for today's unleaded gasoline. You brought back some sweet memories of my Daddy when you adjusted those rocker arms! That's exactly how he taught me to do it and I have seen him do that numerous times!

The goldfish says there must be a God who changes the water. That machine shop did a nice job of machining and rebuilding those heads and cleaning up that intake manifold. Unfortunate it cost $200 per head but still that's a cheap price it would have cost double that here.

What I do when taping an edge like on your heads or intake is use a screwdriver or punch that is round and slide it along that edge. When you do that it does the same thing as the hammer, but gets into the tight spots a little easier. Either way works, I just wanted to share what I have done. Part of what I like about all the good videos out now is that we all can learn so much from all the different ways we get things done. Also, I thought the machine work on the heads was quite reasonable and your time is worth something. Having your wife work with you is such a blessing and always makes me smile. Keep after that Galaxie, it is going to be a nice ride when you get her done.

My parents had the same car when I was little back in the 70's. Same color but with a white vinyl top. My dad was a mechanic and had his own garage for probably over 50 years and I remember watching him do the very same things you were taught to do. Heard those rocker arms chatter many a time back then!

Thank you so much for this. I have a 63 Fairlane with a 289. I’ve known for some time I was going to need to pull the top end off and possibly land on a rebuild, which if I can’t do it myself, it won’t get done. This was a huge help and is going to help me with move forward with the project!

Great job on the upper end. BTW, that's how my dad taught me to adjust valve lash as well. Something to consider: As bad as the sludge was inb that engine, I's seriously consider dropping the oil pan for a good clean out in the near future. Including, at the very least, cleaning the screen on the oil pump. I would probably just replace the pump as long as I was in there anyway. Keep up the great work!

Use a 4 oz. ballpeen hammer to cut the tape and you can also use it to cut new gaskets and with the ball side you can cut in the screw holes. You can almost make a perfect gasket. It's old school but works great.

we usually check for bent push rods by a clean piece of glass tilted on a angle . Bent ones wont roll straight

I am a little bit confused, I thought all the galaxies came with 390s in a four barrel variety? After owning a 65 custom 500 which is one model below the galaxy and it came with it 352 confirmed by the badge on this side of the car. With a four barrel carburetor and engine factory stock which was a very high torque engine requiring solid motor mounts custom-made after destroying factory replacements. The only weak link in the set up was the plastic linkage for the secondaries eventually broke being dried up in southern Arizona and no replacement was available trashing the carburetor. Unfortunate. Thanks for bringing back this beauty

I had that happen on a 460 it was swapping compression boy did it run bad , alot of times those bolts break a old trick for them not breaking is get a small hand held butane torch using map gas heat one at a time use a brass punch and hammer give it a couple of good smacks while the bolt is hot and it will come out your doing great I love your content God bless

Hey rev..good job .you should be very happy with the valve job I'm glad you got the intake cleaned ..the 289 was the finest small ford engine ever proudest it was very reliable..i had a 66 comet caliente with a high performance in it and brother it would would eat chevy small blocks it was a automatic on the floor..i loved it..i want that 390 you have in the mercury..i need it bad..does your church have a band of musicians ? Would love to hear them if possible..nicky t looked like she was having fun and the old man was impressed with your work so was I..remember the compression is a lot better than it was before so don't push the engine too hard .. break it in as if you just rebuilt it..you'll be glad you did..see you on the next one friend 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
