That’s a Sexy Six ! Your skills, tools, and shop are top notch. It’s no wonder you built such a quality motor and put it in a beautiful truck ! Congrats my Ford brother !
@ford 300 inline straight 6 I like the 79 project! Looks like its coming together nicely! And @mechanical king nice bullnose, one of my daily drivers is also an 85.
Karen ashcraft they still are one of the most reliable generator motors for shopping malls too... because they can sit there FOREVER and still fire right up
My father had an 89 F150 with the big six, 240,000 miles on it and the road salt ate a spindle. Sat in the yard for a year, just for kicks I stuck a battery in it and it didn't make two turns before it fired up and ran like a sewing machine. This truck and engine have been the yardstick by which we compare literally every vehicle we have in the entire family since. That engine NEVER let me down, ever! By far the best Ford engine for durability ever made!
I had a big 6 in a 76 van. The only reliability issue I had with it was fords idea of electronic ignition. I always carried an extra box because I never knew when it was gonna leave me stranded. Loved your video, especially the classic country. Thanks
@@fordrestored4646 those industrial versions only made 80 hp, but with a change of intake, larger carb, headers and ignition, an easy 170 horsepower and a big jump in torque is possible. Heavy engine, but reliable as a rock.
The Ford 300 I6 is the finest truck motor ever made. And I am a Chevy guy. I knew a guy that lost the oil pump drive on his 300. After God only know how many miles. Oil pressure at zero. He kept driving for miles. Finally the knocking got annoying I guess, and he pulled over and called some of us for help. We idled the thing off the highway and took the oil pan off in a parking lot. Replaced the oil pump and drive. Pulled some rod caps and swapped some new bearing shells in. We got it started and it still knocked a little. Found it knocked less with #5 spark plug wire disconnected. So that is how he ran it. For years. A 5 cylinder 300 I6. I will never forget that damn truck.
I'd like to see more of this truck. I'm working on something similar from a 75 F-250. 2wd inline six. Except mine's orange so therefore mine should have more horsepower since it's the faster color.
No unfortunately your year and my year model have the lowest compression and the lowest horsepower. From 1973 to 1986 at 8.0 to 1 compression. Any words from 101 horsepower to 120 and 223 foot pounds of torque at 1600 RPM. 1965 to 1972 8.9 to 1 compression. 170 horsepower and 283 foot pounds of torque. Even the ones with fuel injection they have 8.8 to 1 compression we have the least. But it's still a 300 so who cares.
I think the secret to that engines success is that its all heavy iron. If you want a true million mile engine, forget about aluminum blocks and heads unless they're after market.
I have a F500 with 4spd, that 1968 Ford was used on my farm for 47 yrs hauling, wheat and hayfor my farm in Kansas, drove hard and easy on gas and no problems, still use it
I had a clean 76 f100 all green mint condition unfortunately I was too young to appreciate what I had . Ragged it out then sold it for a profit then bought an 86 square body. Now I'm 51 and can't find another too save my life. Awesome truck fella 👍👍👍👍
Great video. My father passed away about 3 weeks ago and left me his '79 F100. It hasn't ran since 2005. I have plans for it. Watching your video gives me some good ideas. F-100 Custom Lariat 300ci 4 on the floor 2:73 9 inch non trac lock Dual tanks for 39 gallons. Side Box 100% stock less the CAT battery and a wire run to the back for the boat winch.
I never comment on videos like this, but this one was spectacular. There are not enough people left who have the determination to build an inline six to make horsepower. Yes, you can make it much easier with a big v8, but there's just something about taking an old, for the most part gutless, inline six like the 300 and making power from it. I LOVED your build and want to compliment you on your fantastic work. I just finished a 300 build in my '70 f100. Not quite as in depth as yours, but i can most definitely tell the difference over stock. I started out with an engine from '78, bored .040 over, stock pistons, had the head shaved .040 as well, Cam Research CR266 camshaft, EFI split manifolds, Offenhauser C intake (same as yours), and i ended up using a Quadrajet carb because of the small primaries and large secondaries. Just a guess since i've yet to put it on a dyno, but i'd say it's making around 200hp or so. Your truck is beautiful btw! If you are not already a member, you should become a member of the FordTruckEnthusiasts forum. It would be very cool to see more pictures and details of your truck!
i miss my old 67. abused the crap out of that 300 and it never let me down. what a truck! you have done a good thing there . beautiful 72. wish i would have done the same with mine all those years ago
That cylinder head is a work of art.we ARE a dying breed but somebody will carry on.There are still flathead dragsters competing so these giant sixes will survive.
Old video, old truck and old engine. What a sweet "Old Reliable" setup! Nice video, nice tunes (AJ)... Excellent fabrication and workmanship! Thanks for sharing! 😁👍
Had a '68 F100 w/same engine/trans combo. Woke that 6 up with Offy intake, Motorcraft 4 bbl carb, Hi Energy cam, & headers. It would pull a loaded car trailer from 1000 RPM w/o a sweat! Nice Truck you have there!
Awesome build. My first vehicle was a 76 f100 300/3speed. My dad and I built a pretty nast 300 for it. I had a lot of fun with that truck , it would surprise mid 80s mustangs and Camaros.
This is a good video I love seeing a project done, I'm 16 and i got a 89 f250 with 300 and a 5 speed 4wd, put all my money Into it fixen er up in the shop last summer and I'm ready for the adventure👍
My 300 f150 was my dads he was the first owner. This truck is the one I learned to drive a stick. Now 30 years later. To date never been in the shop. Never been apart. The truck is self is falling apart around the engine but it's really just due to the hot Florida sun. the 300 is still day one strong. Always had one small hick up in first gear but that was fixed by unplugging the temperature sending unit and letting the computer go to default (EFI) I believe Ford stopped making these reliable motors because they never quit so people like us never buy parts or new trucks and Ford was losing money
that valve cover is absolutely beautiful. beautiful truck all that way around. i got a 94 f150 4.9 350,000 miles, she s a lil tired but still hauling my butt around. great job
Been driving my daily (only) 70 Ford Falcon wagon, 250 inline, one barrel, c4 trans. for 25+ yrs. Most dependable used car ever owned. Give 350$ for it and hey I bought got it payed off! Great video. Well crafted. 🇺🇸
I had the same header on my 69 1 ton Dully 4:10 4 spd, that was my daily for most of 7 years from 88 til 95. My 1st of 3 used UPS 300's rolled me around Eureka California those years. The 1st lasted mere weeks from that header, sounded GREAT UP AROUND 4-4500 RPM. Later I learned the redline was lower, got a knock really quick. My next 1 of the three lasted 40k. Last 1 was short lived, like 5-7k. What a time, put everything you can imagine on the 12' diamond plate Flatbed truck. Took my dog Bo everywhere, North Jetty, South Jetty. Oregon, Bay Area. Humboldt Co. what a place to be. I hear it's just not the same any more. John from Noblesville, Indiana.
Gotta say, I wasn't expecting too much from this video. I was wrong, great build, love an inline six. Wish there were a few more videos of it running and going for a drive. 👍
I'm in the process of building a big block six.It is going in a '53 Ford pickup body sitting on a '79 F250 4x4 frame. I wish I was as quick as you, nice job.
Great job! The 300 is my all time favorite motor. I’ve a 240 in my 1966 F500. I am currently amidst swapping out the trans and rearend with a ‘79 5/2. When she is ready for a rebuild, I’ll convert her to a 300. With only 91,000 miles it’ll be awhile. Thanks for sharing. Be well.
I had one in the last creeper van year ford sold them. Was a bakery van its whole life.. I Split a trans line...traded it for a trailer....he got years out of that thing towing a 30ft camper and living in it. That engine is a damn champ.
Considerably great effort guy! Blazing fast video and gitty up background music equals a winner of a video experience. Congrats on your build! Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷
That was a badass video. Kudos sir! I remember helping my dad pull the 300 of of his 69 short bed. Built a Cleveland and hot rodded it. But there was something about that old 6 that I loved. Thanks for sharing and terrific truck!
My Dad was an engineer at Ford for 26 years he used to bring home a test mule LTD with a hot rodded up 300 6 with a 4 bbl carb on it, they tested all kinds of shocks, rear axels, springs with that car they put all kinds of extra weight in it stuff like that it wasn't super fast but it did run, and run and run when they stopped using it the engine had like 330,000 miles on it!!!
Did you...make...those valve covers?!? 😳 This isn't an engine anymore, its, kinetic sculpture! THIS is attention to detail on the next level. Ferrari eat your heart out!
That was great! What a fulfilling achievement with your dad giving you guidance! I hope to build something with my two boys when they get a little bigger. Great job! I’ve got a 67’ Winnebago with a Ford P-350 chassis and a 300 six cylinder. Gonna do a rebuild on it. You gave me some ideas and inspiration! Thanks for making the video!
