G'day guys, we made this video recently of "How we Prime a 351 Cleveland Oil Pump". This is very handy and important step before starting any new engine for the first time. This video shows a 351 but the principal is the same on any ford engine with a distributor. Thanks for watching, Please Enjoy!

pro tip - chop up a pair of old rocker covers to catch the oil whilst allowing you to see oil / adjust rockers

No that’s not a bad idea but the pumps are so cheap new we just replace and check them before we bolt them up to make sure no swarf was left inside and the clearances are in spec.

Hey guys. I have a 427ci Dart Windsor thats sat for a while. Looking at oil priming it before starting. Don't really want to mess with removing dizzy and stuffing my timing. Do you think the pressurised weed sprayer technique is possible?

Haven’t heard of that technique sorry mate, the hand prime way is easy enough I should try and do a dizzy install tips video

So I pulled the Intake and swapped out a lifter that was pumping to another location and got oil out of that location and not at the original location . So what could be wrong the lifter ? Any suggestions would be appreciated . Thank you

Did you check the pushrod isnt blocked? And does the lifter pump up and down freely?

@@thebrisbanebrothers8332 pushrod clear and the new lifters do not push down freely . I didnt rebuild the engine NAPA did and The guy whowns the car 1970 Mach 1 has Cancer so Im trying to help him out so he can drive it while he can .Im thinking the lifters themselves . I restored the car from the ground up and got stuck doing all the other stuff I didnt really want to do but couldnt say no . Thanks mate

@@thebrisbanebrothers8332 It turns out 14 bad lifters , Replaced all of them and now have oil flow , Quality Control was lacking I guess , found 1 lifter had two disc in it when all the others had 1 ,

Iv been turning the pump and only have oil coming out #5 and #3 , so far the other 14 are dry ?

You have to rotate the crank about 90 degrees every now and then as well to line up the oil galleries and passages mate

@@thebrisbanebrothers8332 did it and still all the others are dry . Pulled out a pushrod to make sure pre lube did dry up and blew it out with my mouth . It was clear . #5 #3 exhaust are the only ones with oil

We pull a cover to check the rockers same time spinning it backwards might have got some oil into the pickup but wouldn’t be ideal.

What happens when you are not getting oil to the top end?

Eventually the bearings will start to suffer with the loss of oil and start to wear out rapidly. They make some oil mod kits now to help control the oil to the mains with restrictors and it pays to put a larger volume baffled Sump on any clevos that will sit at high revs.

I've always wondered about using a C6 as opposed to a C4. I have both but haven't used the C6 as yet. It's in storage. I was told the C6 requires double the horsepower the C4 needs to drive it, hence why people opt for the C4. Can I ask why the owner of that awesome XR chose to use a C6 ?

That is why we favour the c4 soaks less power which is important when going 500+ Hp
