@@1953fords are u running a hardened steel distributor gear with that big mutha thumpr roller cam or a iron distributor gear? If yours the 35-602-8 part number bro. They claim that part number is made of austempered ductile iron and im not getting a straight answer about what material distributor gear works best for this cam. Thanks in advance
Whatttt??? I have a built 565 that will bury this little 351 u wouldnt even hear this lil motor running hahahahaha an i have a built small block ford in a 64 comet that i Love to death but man u wrong with that statement LMAO
@@michaelharrison6978 well a 351 will NEVER compare to a BB either ford or Chevy let alone and stroker large cubic inches. I once as well built a 1964 Comet Caliente AFX style tear drop hood fiberglass fenders and front bumper. Air ducks to the inside headlights. I cut the shock towers back and built a 1966 Mercury 410 FE engine for it 12.5 comp solid cam. And that would have made this 351 sound like a Camry. But I sold it wow 18 years ago and used the money as down payment on our first house. I miss that car. Built over 5 or so years down to bare body had it Sandblasted. Finished off with Wimbledon White. Thanks for watching 😁
I'm not a Ford guy (raised in a Mopar family) but I can respect any good engine build, as long as it's not foreign junk anyway. Sounds damn good. A close buddy of mine is having a .40 over 351 Windsor built by his buddy who's a mechanic with a stage 2 RV cam and Holley sniper EFI. I'm glad he went with the sniper EFI system after I mentioned it to him rather than a Coyote swap. A new built C6 is going in with it. It's a 77 F150 with less than 150k original miles on it and all original drivetrain. It runs like a raped ape already, a fresh 351W bored 40 over with sniper EFI is gonna be ridiculous
foreign junk? lot of foreign motors are eons better than domestic motors, even just stock lol. and im a ford guy. do not be ridiculous just because of a personal bias.
@@fixitshop3025 I doubt you actually own an inline 4 let alone a v8 so im not entirely considering your opinion on the world's current state of moto vehicles. Have fun on your bicycles lol.
Damn son, that’s sounds big people at all you can eat buffet . Been debating on what cam to install in roller 351 we are building for fox body, think you helped make up our mind.
@RegulerShowTV why's it got to be legal lol...takes the fun out of it. But most states you can easily get it street legal. Obviously Cali is out of the question lol
@@morganbrowning867 hey man so engine fits in very easily. Need rear sump oil pan. Headers are tricky with stock suspension. I used hard to find mustang II headers and they fit no problem. Now this car has a mustang II front suspension. So it has manual rack and pinion. Now I can use any foxbody headers. For the master cylinder get a 1987 Ford ranger one. Aluminum with plastic reservoir and small. Works perfect. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
@@morganbrowning867 back on my chopped 53 I ran a 289 rear sump with mustang II v8 motor mounts. Impossible to find now. V8 mustang II cyclone headers. Can’t find either. And actually a 62 Ford galaxie steering box. Can’t remember why I went with that other than the stock column being messed up
@@1953fords is that qf-750 a double pumper or vacuum secondary? Don't forget to answer my question on what material distributor gear u used with this cam if it's a roller retro if u remember!! Very nice 351w sbf build too, sounds wicked
@@therealunknown123. hey Bobby the cam I used was the regular one. Not the retrofit one. I used the gear that is recommended for any roller cam. I used a comp cam steel gear. Don’t remember the part number. But even any gear from a 302 dist from a roller motor will fit also. The quick fuel 750 was mech secondary. Thanks for watching.
@@1953fords thanks bro, i had a few tecs to tell me to use a melonized steel gear which jus means a hardened steel gear but i had one to tell me a melonized iron gear and that kinda confused me LOL! So thats why i figured to ask u bro and thanks for the quick reply. That lit 351w u built was music 🎶 for a gear head ears!! It sounded amazing
Sound mean! I know this was posted a while back but can you tell a little more about the build? Comp ratio, rockers ect... I'm gathering parts for a 60s B/ Altered build. I just finished up a 331 for my '46. Video on my channel.. Thanks!
If you’re still getting notifications from this video, how much of a dramatic change did these heads make to the motor ? Vs Cam? Increased compression?
I will only use AFR heads for anything. They are works of art and work very good. This was a build all at once. Not a slow improvement so I can’t answer a change to anything.
How do you like that brawler 750? I have the 650dp but not enough carb so I'm looking at pulling the trigger on this 750 ? O and by the way I'm not going to ask what size cam hahaha
Loved that carb would buy again in a second. I’ve had a 850 also. Awesome carbs. I have a 600 on my ranger now in my other videos. It’s too small. Oh and thanks for not asking how big the cam is. 😂😂😂
I'm not at all trying to be a smartass cause that's a wicked build on the Windsor motor but I've got to say that I hope you let a little temperature get up on this engine before you turn it up? I'm sure you know that but she's sweet and I just had to ask.
What else is done to this engine? It almost sounds like a pulling truck haha, would be awesome and much appreciated to get a full parts list of everything you did. Like are the pistons, rods, push rods, stock or upgraded? Want to get a parts list together so I can start planning the engine build on my 77 f100 Thanks
Sorry for late response. I don’t always get notifications. 1984 Block .040 over with dish pistons .005 in the hole I drilled and tapped valley for factory spider for hydraulic roller lifters. Stock rods Stock crank Big Mutha Thumpr hydraulic roller cam. Normal one not a retrofit cam Stock replacement Ford racing hydraulic roller lifters. Stock Dog Bones I machined to work in NON factory roller block Stock sheet metal spider AFR NON EGR 165cc Heads Scorpion Aluminum 1.6 roller rockers Comp cams HD push rods Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake Quick Fuel 750 vacuum secondary Mallory Uní-Lite Dist. BBK 1-3/4 foxbody 351w swap headers. It really wasn’t anything special. But ran very good and I’m old school and love a stumbling idle. I’d guess it about 400-425 HP at the crank.
@@1953fords all good man, was the hydraulic roller cam worth the extra cost vs just getting the big mutha thumpr non roller style? Stock length pushrods?
@@RobSimmons6.7 definitely worth roller over flat tappet. No cam break in. Plus way less friction and heat with rollers. Just need to have proper valve spring rate for roller cam vs flat tappet. I can’t remember if it was a stock length pushrod. I just measured what length I needed and ordered them.
@@RobSimmons6.7 stock Ford racing roller lifters we’re $125 new. Stock spider I already had. Stock bones are cheap. And then price of cam is only really like $125-$150 more over flat tappet.
@@1953fords alright I was leaning towards the roller style but was just curious. Going to be working on the truck/engine over the winter and it will be pretty similar to yours just planning on going with a Holly sniper EFI conversion kit instead of carb
AFR 165 Heads. Just the CompCams Big Mutha Thumpr. Not the Mutha Thumpr. I forget the part number I believe it’s in one of the comments. Hydraulic Roller of course.
@@bryce090892 yes it was just what I was trying to accomplish I wanted the smaller size for the street. Plus if you compare the flow numbers. The 185’s only start flowing more over .600 lift. The cam is under .600 so your not gaining anything but slower velocity and less responsiveness thanks for all your kind words. 👍🏼
I put that engine together in 2016 from parts I was gathering. I’d say at that time I had about $6000 into it. I plan on building another one soon for my ranger. I’m sure it will be more now a days.
Hey, do you remember the details of the engine? Im currently building one i got it bored and stroked to 418 cui, 11.5:1 comp, 704/706 cam, 1050 holley demon carb. Been a project and a half. I want it running so bad lmao, but instead here i am watching videos of cammed out windsors in hopes mine sounds similar 😂😂
1984 block I converted to roller. .040 over flat tops with valve reliefs. Was about 10:1 AFR 165 heads comp cams big mutha thumper cam scorpion 1.6 roller rockers. Edelbrock air gap intake and the quick fuel 750 1-3/4 fox body swap headers. Very straight forward build
@claystudtman hi I wanted to keep good responsiveness. Since it was on the street. If you look at flow numbers between the 2 heads the 185’s only work better with higher rpm and such. The 165’s flow a ton more than any GT40 head so I knew it was gonna work good. Thanks for watching
@1953fords thank you for the quick response, I plan on putting in some h beam rods, re condition the stock crank, kieth black 151 flat tops, and some afr 185 enforcer heads with the same cam you have, this video is what set me on the big mutha thumpr, fantastic sounding engine!
Yes sir Stock Block .040 over. 1984 non roller block. I used a stock 5.0 spider lined it all up and drilled and tapped the valley for it. Then used stock 5.0 hydraulic roller lifters new of course. I then clearanced the dog bones to not interfere with the block. This was NOT the retrofit one they sold
Well I ended up taking the C4 out and putting in a 6R80 transmission in it. I got disgusted with the electronic controller that controlled the transmission so I ended up selling the engine and transmission. Then that’s when I bought a Ford Barra engine from Australia for the car. I started getting everything for the Barra but money got tight and now it sits. Still have the Barra. I have another 351w I may build again like the one I had. I regret selling that 351. But can easily duplicate it. Also thought of doing a Godzilla but money is tight at the moment. I also have to finish my ranger.
@@anthonysiler4938 sorry never dynoed it. But if you think of everyone swapping LS engines. These AFR 165’s flow better than and stock LS head. So this should have been comparable in power to a cammed LS. Yes I know it takes $2000 heads to compare to junk yard LS engine. But I was very impressed myself with how this ran and how responsive it was.
Yes I hear that a lot as well. This engine ran very strong and hard. Never dynoed it. But I was happy with it. I had this cam also in a notchback but in a 302 with TFS heads. First time at track ran 12.36 of the trailer. Back 12 years ago. I love this cam. Are there ones out there that make more power? Yes there are. But I love the sound as well. 👍🏼
@@1953fords thanks bro. I'm putting together a stroked Windsor for a 72 merc comet. I plan on running afr or 11r heads....I know it'll easily be over 500hp but that sound is amazing lol
@@charlesthorpe3179 very awesome. Yes nothing grabs attention more than a nasty stumbling idle. I built a 64 comet caliente. Back in mid 90’s. I built it all factory AFX style. I was building a 66 427 side oiler High Riser. Never finished the 427. But built a Merc 410 FE for it. Solid cam 12.5 compression 1050 dominator. That engine was nasty. But sold that car in 2003 and used the money for down payment on our first house🤷🏻♂️. Good luck with your comet. 👍🏼
Exactly. Other Cams have better power sure. But the sound of this? This cam?? It's off the chain!!?!! I have a big Mutha thumpr cam that's being delivered today! From summit. Going in a 9.8:1 comp, 381 sbc, Vic Jr. heads and intake. Made 511hp on dyno before with a more modest solid roller comp cams. Not going to race it, just cruise it. 81 Z28. Hell of a sound dude!
