Easily one of the best engines Ford ever bolted into a chassis. Very underrated and at one time, overlooked. Owned mine since August 28, 1969. Bolted into my original 1969 Mach 1. Just finished rebuilding that original engine. Blew a head gasket after FIFTY-FOUR YEARS of dependable service. Running sweet again!

That's really cool that you are the original owner of a '69 Mach 1 and still have it, and the original engine!

Absolutely the 351w is an incredible engine, durable and inspite of SBC parts being the cheapest most readily available thing out there, a 351w has more hp/$ potential than a 350sbc by far, it takes a truck LS with boost to have a shot at a better hp/$ than 9.5" Windsor.

Kind of a shame nobody makes a 5.975-5.980" connecting rod to use off the shelf 9.48" 351w pistons with a 9.503" deck block or a piston for a 9.503" block with a 6" rod. I have a 9.503" deck roller block and considering how cheap 408 stroker kits can be had, $1,380 from Scat, I would probably just go for it, if it was doing an N/A street build. I always wanted to piece together a 434 if I managed to find 331 1.165-1.175"CH pistons, 6.2" rods and a 3" main 4.25" crank cheap enough, it would probably be silly and not offer much over a 408/418/427 if anything at all, just thought it might be interesting to try something different since it would be for a ZF-5 F250 where extra tq might be useful, it has an AFR headed 393w right now and it's can atill use more. Thanks for sharing your build, got a sub for sure.

Please excuse the very novice question, but I just took custodialship of my sister's 69 Mach 1. Upon arrival it's showing low oil pressure and low oil levels. I Don't know much about cars but I want to get oil in it before driving it to the Mustang mechanic that I located. Is the oil filled through the cap on the driver's side header cover? Sorry for the beginner question, but I have to start somewhere!

You have a legendary classic. So you want to maintain it as original as possible. And keep those serial numbers matching. And be willing to spend what it takes to do it right. And you basically are keeping it indoors and safe. Driving it only to really enjoy a nice day. You have been bestowed a legacy car.
@MarksMuscleCarGarage
@MarksMuscleCarGarage Месяц назад
@@PonkyKong Thanks for the compliments but I've owned the car since the 80s and have a little different perspective. It's nothing special as far as collectability goes. Ford made 70,000 Mach 1s in '69 - It's just a base model 2bbl 351 orginally. In another 50 years after gas engines have been banned, the car will have been scrapped, converted to an EV, or be in a museum. I'm going to enjoy it while I can. Furthermore I'd recommend anyone with the means to go buy a new Coyote Mustang and do the same before they go away. They are fabulous cars and way better than this old stuff in every way except for maybe styling.

When choosing which thickness for the intake manifold. What is the ideal distance between the intake manifold and the engine block?? I realize the thicker the gasket the bigger the gap. But what gap are we looking for? Also. Super well-made video. Camera work was excellent and the narration was great as well. Answered all the questions so many of us were wondering😁😁👍👍
@MarksMuscleCarGarage
@MarksMuscleCarGarage 4 месяца назад
I think a stock gasket is around .060 " thick which should work in most cases. I was trying to adjust the port alignment / height between intake and cylinder head so I went with a thinner gasket. As far as gap between the block end rail and intake manifold, I don't think there is an ideal gap but the bigger the gap the thicker the bead of RTV/silicone required to fill the gap so at some point the gap might be too big to fill with RTV.

My Dad had a 68 Galaxy when I was a kid. It had a 390. Great car for road trips. 71 Galaxy is a cool car as well. I think the 351W benefited from aftermarket parts development for the 5.0 in Foxbody Mustangs since cylinder heads and camshaft interchange, and it was an easy swap for people wanting to move up from a 5.0 to a 351/5.8.

I’ve heard long ass waiting times and lying about when they will actually finish your parts from Big Dogs. Surprised to actually hear their name mentioned. One tip when torquing your heads is to line the wrench so you are pulling front to back or vice versa. Your engine stand won’t move nearly as much. It sure looked like you were jerking the the torque wrench and whole engine around in the process. Nice to hear you mention Lykins Motorsports they really are the best place to go when getting help picking a cam or anything Ford related for that matter.

Yes, definitely better to torque from front or back of motor, but I don't always keep that in mind when taking heads on and off.

@@asymptoticsingularity9281 The CFM or amount of air that a cylinder head will flow is measured at a standard pressure (28 in.
