It's great to know that this man has a legacy that is still helping people today. Thanks to this man I found that broken hose and didn't take it to a dealer for it! We miss you
This amazing man is still helping people! I don't think I can begin to explain how much he has saved us! We have our truck in 2 different shops for over 6+ months and $4k+ later... this video is what solved the problem today! Thank Ron for saving us!! ❤️ RIP ❤️
Good video as always! The nipple on these plug up and cause the same concern and we see that more often than blown hoses. I show just how bad they get plugged up in one of my videos.
On the road towing my jeep going up the hill suddenly had no power. I’m like what the heck. Did a quick search this video popped up I pulled over and in fact that exact hose had popped off. Great video thank you!
Ron, I love you, more than you could ever know. I watch your videos all the time, and this one just solved months of headache and frustration... I was watching your video on cleaning the gas tank screens, thinking that may be my problem. I would never have thought to check the boost gauge hose itself... I mean it. I love you in every manly, hetero, non weird way imaginable.
I have had my 6.0 for 5 years now ive done EGR, Oil cooler and EGR cooler 2 times now. Finally went with the Bulletproof EGR cooler. I have also done the FICM, i had 3 injector codes until one of my customer introduced me to Hotshots,it cleared all those miss symptoms. 3 weeks ago the transmission overheated and blew up. I had a local shop put in a new tranny. i got my truck back and there was a lack in boost that i was experiencing for about a year. i purchased a new Garrett turbo Stage 1 and installed it this morning. After the install there was NO boost. I was starting to believe the 6.0 horror stories. i started watching u tube videos of turbo install and removal and no one mentioned anything about the MAP hose. I watched your video, after about 20 others and my hose looked just like the one on your video. Went to the local Auto store paid $4.00 for a new MAP hose and the truck boosted like it was on steroids. Just wanted to say Thank you for all you have done for the 6.0 community.
Ron - THANKS !!! Exactly my problem, did injectors, all seals rail, nipples - everything, truck runs like new - NO BOOST, watched your video and run down to the truck - I forgot to put back this hose when putting all together - now the truck is on steroids .... Thanks Again !!!
Thank you for this info, just bought truck no boost, looks like someone was throwing parts at it, new everything, found hose not connected, runs incredible now.
This man has saved me thousands on many occasions. I was just about to replace a turbo and stumbled across this video in preparation. Mine was completely unplugged. Didn’t even need tools to fix it
WOO! You just saved me an aneurism! I just did a bulletproof egr and oil cooler upgrade (using your videos) cause I bought a truck from a stealership that was bad. It took me a week and EVERYTHING went wrong that could. Finally got it together only to have issues with my turbo. Expecting the worst all day thinking I was going to drop a few hundered more on my "new" 2006 6.0. Last ditch effort, I find this video. Who'd have thunk it?! I had a cracked hose that broke during the installation process. I am soooo relieved I saw this before tearing into the turbo! Thanks Ron, your videos have been my guidance into the new life as a 6.0 owner.
I was towing my 5thWheel and the check engine light came on. I pulled in had the codes printed out and it reported low turbo output. Took it to my sealer, truck has extended warranty, after them not checking it out for 7 days they come back to me that they couldn't replicate the codes so they recommended I "blow the gunk" with a good highway drive. Mind you, I had just driven across Idaho with my foot to the floor and there was plenty if time to blow the gunk out. I'm so ticked at my dealer I doubt I will go back. Needless to say, I am so glad I came across your video! I will he checking this hose for cracks, I probably will replace it just for good measure so I can take the old hose and spam it on the service counter at my dealer.
Thank you. My turbo boost had dropped to 9psi and I could not find an air leak in any of the boost / intercooler hoses. Cut the end off the hose and reattached - back to 20psi of boost. I was ready to buy a new turbo. Thanks again.
Just fixed an hpo leak that required pulling turbo. First day I drove it was today, had no boost/power and was worried. Until I came across this vid and saw my hose torn apart. I looked up and said my thanks to Ron.
This is the best video I have seen on this common boost problem to date. All those other fix-it websites rarely have the solutions, just the problems. Anyway, I started to work on this 2005 6.0, 239k miles, all original stock, after the owner said a mechanic gave up on it. I am never one to pass up a challenge, with the experience of working on just one of these 6.0's 4 years ago. I have, among several problems, no boost. The original problem was low power and stopping after warming up, with no start until cold. The hose was cracked as in this video, but after fix, still nothing on the boost. I suspected the valve cover tube was plugged so I put a wire through the hole to be sure it was clear of soot. Now, I am a week into this project, making progress, after changing the STC, cleaning the turbo, changing the FICM (wasn't problem anyway) and cleaning the EGR. I watched all the videos, they were helpful. According to the video I didn't need to change the FICM, did so anyway, but wasn't the problem. I should have listened. The previous mechanic changed the IPR, I'm guessing okay. So, I checked everywhere for a hose leak, air cooler leak, can't find one. So, I am going to look carefully at the MAP sensor. The turbo spins, produces some pressure (not sure how to test performance), but I can barely get the dash gauge to register 5 psi, most of the time, nothing. I plan to review many more videos and the way I see it sooner or later I will figure this out.
I solved the problem with dieing after warm up, and not restarting until cooler. I changed the oil/fuel dummy plugs, both were degraded. I also changed the turbo VGT actuator. I tested the turbo connections with compressed, regulated air pressure, found two small leaks. All of this got my turbo boost solved. Yet, still stalled after warm up and running for few miles. BTW, I would lose oil pressure on the dash gauge. I thought it was the sender, so I changed that, but still after warmup, loss of engine oil pressure, but engine would still run though. However, as engine temp increased, engine would die. I noticed a lot of blow by also, wasn't sure about it. Plus, occasionally I would get white smoke under heavy acceleration. Then, I discovered the engine oil was diluted or too low viscosity, maybe a 5w/20 product? It may have been overfilled. I am not certain if it was diluted with an internal diesel leak somewhere, not sure if that is possible? After I changed the oil to 15W/40 CJ4 rated, made all the difference in world. This truck runs smooth, back to original power, nice running. I will have to monitor, maybe not over yet.
Thanks!!!! This fixed my boost problem. I was having fine power as long as I didn't get on the pedal, then it was like I never even pushed harder on the accelerator, it was the exact boost hose fitting you showed in this video. And all blogs were telling me to pull my turbo and many more tough fixes. Thanks again!
I'm having low boost when I put a load on it like going uphill or towing replaced all sensor including VGT and trucks running amazing but as soon as I put a load on it it has no boost I was super frustrated !!I just checked my map sensor hose and low and behold mine looks just like the one in this video about to replace it Fingers crossed 🤞!!wouldn't of found it if I hadn't watch this video THANK U AND HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!
I've been working on 6.0s for well over 15yrs and I still always forget to connect the MAP supply back to the intake🤦♂️🤣....also,just a heads up to anyone still having boost issues, it may be a bad BARO sensor, which is mounted under the steering column, behind the access panel...looks like a relay(kinda), but uses a 3 wire pigtail...that sensor basically reads barometric pressure for altitude changes and controls your fuel and boost curve which will give you some major loss of power.......RIP Ron
What would happen if you unplugged the map hose from intake and put in a electric boost sensor. Will it effect anything? Reason I ask is because I put a banks intake elbow and it doesn't have any holes to thread a boost sensor in. Or would it be better to T off the map line?
This video really helped me out I was goin crazy over a stupid problem and yes it ended up being my map sensor hose. Stupidly it was secured with a zip tie from factory and the zip tie snapped so i upgraded to a hose clamp. Thank you very much for the help
So, first of all I'm going to start by saying this. I hate that I jumped to the conclusion that my vains were sticking. So what do I do when I wake up yesterday morning? I go to my 2005 F350 and pop the hood and precede to take the turbo out so I can clean it and put back together (Which I watched your video on how to do). I do that, bring it inside and worked on it. I go on with my day and come back home last night and reinstalled the turbo. To my surprise, after I reinstalled it, still lack of power. I struggled with this problem all night. Even convinced myself that it was time for a new turbo. As I come inside at 5 am the next day (today) I decided to google "Common 6.0 low boost problems" and this video came up. I seriously don't know why I didn't look this beforehand. Here I am, 6 am I'm the morning, I pop open the hood one last time, check the hose and there it is, unplugged. Hell, I took it for a test drive and this puppy is breathing better than she has ever breathed before.
Thank you so much, just replaced an injector and when I hooked everything back up after an oil change and started it, it was lacking serious boost pressure. This was because I forgot to attach that hose back to the intake. Your awesome!
Thanks Ron, Great advice and it is something everyone can check on their own very quickly before jumping to conclusions that take more time and a lot more money.
thanks for the video. I lost boost heading down the interstate today (driving from NY to NC) and couldn't figure out why. I'll definitely be checking these areas before pulling my turbo and going through the hastle of taking it apart and cleaning it.
Often overlooked is a plugged up exhaust system that prevents the turbo from spooling up. Put your hand over the tail pipe to feel the exhaust flow. If you think its weak, separate the pipe at the joint just before the Cat, and take it for a test drive. If your power is back, some exhaust work will fix you back up. I ordered the parts, but driiled a 1-1/4” hole with a hole saw thru the side of the cat and muffler to keep driving till the exhaust pipes came in. Plenty of boost immediately!
so after replacing the turbo I still had no power. I found the map hose broken went to pull it off and broke the nipple off the intake. are those threaded in? I would hate to have to replace the intake just because of a broken nipple
Thanks so much for sharing buddy My f250 04 6.o is starting to have a little shaking on 45 to 50mph and i don't know if can be a hose, injector or air in the fuel line. Anyway i just got this new problem in my truck and i am doing a research of what can be the problem. Thanks for sharing your video.
Not sure if your still here. 2003 6.0 put over 300k since buying new. From a dead stop it bogs and smokes taking off till about 2k rpm then hauls ass and no smoke. Ford said the EGR needs cleaning for I think they said $1000. All work on it since new has been at Ford. Just did Ficum and injectors. Head bolts oil cooler and EGR were done under warranty back in early 2000s with under 100k miles
Thank you Ron. Yes...I checked the MAP sensor hose due to poor low end power. There were cracks, and replacing it definitely helped. I used 1/4" fuel line and placed a plastic shield around it. Many thanks for your good videos.
Hi there, I do believe that the MAP sensor is the culprit in my case, the nipple on the sensor is broke off. However, I don't see a nipple on the intake manifold; the only thing I see is a grey hose (looks like for vacuum) and that the hose runs behind the cab blower manifold. I am new the these engines so I don't know much about them. Thank you!
hey ron, I have a question. I installed a new garrett turbo, and my vgt is stuck at 30%... I took this turbo off with a good turbo from a buddies truck and truck runs great.. took new turbo apart and found no problems(watched your cleaning video). Any ideas? thanks
What do you think about swapping over to Rotella T6 5w40 oil on these 6.0l trucks? Alot of talk of mpg increases. My ? is will it have a long start issue when its hot?
Hey this video was quit a long time ago. But I’m having a problem somewhere along the line on my turbo diesel f250 2005. 6.0. It bills up pressure to start out fine then stalls out. The pressure indicator on the dash is showing no pressure. I’m looking for any help. I checked the house from the video but it was good. It’s not showing any codes.
I have another question for you Ron. I just bought a new solenoid/wastegate (what ever its called) for my turbo boost issue, and cant find the right size socket for the screw thats holding the shield over the solenoid. My 11/32's is to big and my 5/16 is to small, is there some special tool I need? thanks again Ron
Hi, Ron, I do have issue on the low boost and changed the turbo tube at low and high side. It's got better but still feel the lack of power.. I will check it to the small hose you talked about and can you tell us what is the part number or name for that part.? So I can order it at the ford shop. Thanks
Hey ron I have a question I have a 2006 f450 6.0, the symptom's that I am having is that when I am at a stop light or complete stop then I accelerate I see a lot of black smoke no tune then after like a few seconds I can I hear my turbo spool up to normal boost power. The only time it does it is at a complete stop.
Hey Ron, Thanks for the video. I have a question. 2007 with H&S performance programmer. With stock program I am seeing no problems at all. With H&S programmer, periodically depending how you accelerate and how quickly when you hit overdrive, the boost goes to 0 and stays there for a few minutes. If you put truck in neutral while riding down the road and shut off ignition and restart, go back to drive, the boost returns or if you remove foot from throttle and wait a few seconds the boost returns. I'm thinking some sensor is bad but not sure which one. Can you help? Thank you,
Hi, I have 2005 f250 that I keep on having trouble figuring out why I get no power when I put in to drive, it automatic losses all the power and doesn't move at all. any help will be gladly appreciate. .
cracked exhaust manifold and resulting loss of exhaust pressure / boost seems to have caused low power condition on my 6.0.....truck is absolute dog around town - seems much better on the highway - but still not all there. I live in major rust belt - could use some advice on removing and replacing passenger side exhaust manifold 2003 f-350 4x4 with MAJOR corrosion issues....
my turbo builds body very very very slowly until it hits about 8psi, then it builds no problem, but as soon as i let up on the throttle at all, it loses all boost almost instantly. what do you think it is?
Hi Ron what a amazing video man if it wasn't for this video I wouldn't know the problem on my truck can you tell me the name of this hose or where can I get it thank you
Will this cause truvk to turbo fart and only allow about 1/8 pedal? Anymore than that and truvk just stumbles and pukes out black smoke from tail pipe. But if I feather the pedal I can get up to speed?
Ron I'm having trouble with boost I replaced the turbo checked the map hose and all cac boots look good it builds to about 15 then comes down to about 10lbs and start squealing like up pipeline is broken any idea thanks Greg
So i have a F350 with a 6.0 and my turbo is spooling while driving but my truck isnt getting the power any idea if that would be a boost leak or something else?
Cody Morgan check your hose clamps. check the rubber for tears see if there lose Check your intercooler to see if there's a hole in it or the side that's plastic that was famous for cracking and leaking
thanks Ron for all your vids very very helpful. after watching this one I went out and checked my hose and wouldn't you know it! its cracked. so now here's my question, whats it called? I want to buy one on Ebay but cant find
05 6.0 , # 5 cylinder is filling with fuel, I pulled the glow plug truck starts then dies after 45 sec. oil is over full. I don't want to pull this engine apart if a simple test is available also just picked up the new scantool now I'm going home to figure it out
