With this video I show the way I replace the upper and lower hoses on the 6.4 Powerstroke. The replacement hoses are a dual o-ring design. The dual o-rings help in multiple ways. One is leaks. The other is keeping pressure in the system which reduces cavitation, air pockets, hot and cold spikes and premature front cover wear.

Great video - thanks! I've had a leak for a long time and now I finally realize what is causing it.

Best instructional video on this topic out there. Straight to points and good camera work as well. Made it possible to do mine in the garage instead paying the shop. Thanks a million!@

Ron, I just want to thank you for this and the other videos you make. I just changed both my lower hoses on my 450 6.4 in about 2 hours using your video as a guide. I'm not enough of a mechanic to figure out the great "shortcuts and tricks" that you have. It sure saved me some bucks. I had a local shop do the upper hose a couple weeks ago. They charged $129 for the hose and $80 in labor for diag and repair. Thanks again. Next to tackle a true flush. BTW I used the Airlift II and it was a breeze. (No pun intended.)

Ron this the information that I needed. I've had this 2010 F250 6.4L for two years and it has clamps that I have never seen before. So, I plan to copy your homemade Pick tool for getting the clamp off! This is so helpful, because the bottom hose is really difficult to get to. Thanks for the Vid. 40 years of Doing It Myself and going strong!

Thanks for the write-up! It was helpful to view prior to changing my lower hose this morning on my 2010 F250. I have had it since new. I am not sure why but my top hose already had the white end. The bottom hose had the black end. Maybe the dealer replaced it at some point but I guess it's possible I got it that way. All done and no more dripping or leaks :-)

You can also weld a half inch 1 inch bar on the bottom of your custom made screw driver so it doesn't get in your view very clever mate.

Just want to be sure I'm about to replace the right part. The radiator hose is leaking and if you are under the truck it's the left side so from above the right side of the radiator. Is that the upper radiator hose? 2008 F350 6.4 turbo diesel.

Ron, I have a late model 2010 6.4. I have the white end as shown in your video on the upper radiator hose. Is it possible for those to create a leak? I stuck a camera in underneath that hose and it is for sure leaking.

Hi Ron, I want to thank you for your videos! I am getting ready to drain and do a cleaner flush my 6.4L coolant at 75K. What would you say is the best way to do the draining, is it drain at radiator until stops then unbuckle the lower radiator hose where the 2 come together? I will need to do this multiple times with the flushes so I want to have the most efficient way possible, as well as drain the most out every time ( to include drivers side engine block. I really don't want to have to get behind the starter for the other one) My truck developed a coolant leak at the old hoses at 30K miles and had the hose updated then, I should be able to reuse these hoses correct? Also is there a way to be able to get the thermostats out without having to remove battery and Degas tank? Any tips will be helpful. Or a video on how to do this. Again thank you for your great tips and videos.

what are you removing? The main thing I would focus on is making sure you flush it all. remember the water pump is for circulating that's why you footed the water in different areas and do it both on and off. keeping in mind it could be hot and dangerous. yes where it joins is the lowest and will remove the most. replace the oring at the end. we've literally spent over a day flushing some. what you choose to flush it with matters too. (chemical)

DieselTechRon Honestly I am getting that gold coolant out and going with a diesel specific coolant, an EC-1 rated coolant. I plan on doing a Restore and a Restore Plus cleaning of the system, followed by lots of flushes and then a final distilled flush. The Thermostats will come out after the initial drain. They look like a total PITA to get out just because where it is squeezed in. Then I plan on doing all the flushes and draining with them out of the housing and replacing them at the end with new ones, and a new thermostat gasket. with each fill of the system for flushing would you use the rad-vac filler or is that really only needed on the final fill/charging of the system?

Ron, if I replace both hoses on my 2009 F250. Do I need to use the Heavy Duty Airlift II radiator refilled tool or can I just add 50/50 coolant. Thanks
@Go2Sleep911
@Go2Sleep911 8 лет назад
+John Smith I know that you need some type of rad-vac filler to do it correctly. I have ran across a method for burping and clearing the system of air but it is very time consuming vs just getting a rad vac filler. its worth the price of a basic airlift to get the job done quickly!

Fuel related as long as the info you have is correct. I have a video showing how the info is false if the icp voltage is zero.

Hey man 2 questions, do you have a link to where I can buy those two hoses from? Need to do this on my 6.4 as the lower one is leaking where the 2 hoses join together. Also, did you drain all the coolant before doing this?
