Hahahahaha.... EXACTLY !!! That's precisely why I said at the end of the video I had to more thinking on it because it sure sounded wanky on that guys video !! As soon as I saw that changing the location of the 'name' of #1 on the distrubutor to directly across and 180* away, I knew that someone had removed and changed the distributor before that guy started working on it. I can't for the life of me figure out how he figured out to make it run by going from the rear forward though. I think THAT is the big question. I can't thank you enough Matt for flipping those wires around and proving the suspicions. You get the gold star today buddy. Thank you again !!
So I actually have 2 of these 134’s, both in 1956 640 Ford’s. I just fired up the one in the video to go start getting a pumpkin patch ready and happened to look over at the other one…the distributor is 180 out on it!! How wild is that? Never noticed it before because on both of them I found TDC on #1 and went from there.
@@AmericanTradesmen hahahaha...what really IS the chance of that huh. I wouldn't go to the trouble to mess with it until its time for some more serious engine work.
Tractorman: You were right! You did show that the distributor rotation as clockwise, which is incorrect but you are exactly right that whether number one is the front cylinder or the rear cylinder the firing order is the same and the tractor will run. The mistake the gentlemen in this video made is that in one scenario he had the distributor turning clockwise and in the other he had it turning CCW. That won't work and you did not do that.
Hello: Tractorman4461 was correct. You did not demonstrate what he suggested. Both of his scenarios (numbering from the front or numbering from the rear) both had the distributor turning the same direction. You did the "numbering from front" scenario (the correct way) with a CCW distributor rotation and the "numbering from rear" scenario with a clockwise rotation. Now he did show both scenarios with a Clockwise rotation which in incorrect. But if you were to re-do this with a counterclockwise rotation in both scenarios, the tractor would run both ways. Thanks for caring about old tractors and taking the time to do this video. Dave
After I converted to 12v I tried running my NAA and it backfired and ran rough. An old timer stopped by and changed my plug wires from #1 toward front to # 1 at the rear as if the distributor was 180 degrees off. Ran distributor or changed wires prior to that. I was astounded.
My 600 is also a 56, and I uploaded this video because what @tractorman44 said makes sense, but I’m a hands on visual learner. I had to see for myself!
Thanks for the experiment. I wouldn’t want to turn the distributor 180 out either. I think you have proven that the original video that tractorman44 saw was incorrect. Still don’t know how it ran. 👍👊
@@stomper2582 thanks buddy. I mean no ill will towards the original video creator, I’ve yet to watch it. I’m a hands on visual learner and since I had one of the engines in question curiosity got the best of me!
Take the inspection cover off the flywheel take the distributor cover off the router should point to the number one cylinder at the water pump and the flywheel should be cleaning 4 and 10゚
Check out youtuber SurvivalExistance video: prepper skill set tune up an old ford 600 This guy does his from back to front. American tradesman, this video helped me get my grandfathers 640 running yesterday, i had to wire it back to front, runs like a champ. Sounds like initial timing set 180* out?
