What a collection of fast Fords. Something else; and great to see. I’d go back to factory every time: pepper-pots and black grille. But don’t be swayed by anyone else’s opinion!
It might actually have come with the RS alloys due it it being registered a few months before the launch of the 2.8i Special. The fact that it has the colour coded grill, headlight surrounds and mirrors like a Special but the Shark Grey interior of the older cars makes me think it's just a car from that transition period before they officially relaunched it as the Special. So those alloys could well be original.
Hi mate, great video on the Capri again. I'm a Capri purist, so I would put the Pepperpot alloys back on and change the grill and headlamp bezels back to Black. 👍
Hi Andy it’s Darren here. Great video on these Old Ford coupes! I loved our Cougar V6, very smooth but it just had bits falling off of it even when new!
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your thoughts. It’s a tough decision as I like the current look but like my cars to have an OEM look… I shall continue pondering! Thanks for watching.
Mate, I don't think it's so cut and dry between the Injections and the Specials. They were adding what are considered Special parts to cars before the launch of the Special and with yours only being a few months away from launch, I wouldn't be surprised if it came with the colour coding and wheels. As far as I can tell there isn't much info out there so you'd have to find other examples of late cars like yours to figure it out. Mine is November '83 and it only has the 5 speed box so I can't help with info on the cosmetics but I feel your pain with the throttle cable! I've found that the new ones can still be a little bit sticky/jerky but if you find a good one then please let me know where you got it from because it can be really annoying in slow speed traffic! Good luck whatever you decide to do with it 👍
I really like the Cougar, I think it's a really under rated car. The Capri on the other hand is just a legend. You can never go wrong with a Capri! I have a 2.0s in my collection and it's definitely one of my favourites, oh and the grill is definitely better in its original black colour! 😉
The Capri looks lovely as is but yes I would put pepper pots back on and black grill at the end of the day it's your car do as you feel is best either way a great car
8f that's all it failed you that car is in great condition not a great lover of the pepper pot but Hay ho it's down to your own taste can't wait on the next update on the cosworth
Please keep the current wheels, and revert back to the original black grill and headlamp housings; that would make Bodie very happy. Wolfrace Pepperpots are more at home with XR2s. Always love your videos. Cheers.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your thoughts on what I should do. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope the video brought back some good memories of your Capris.
I totally agree on the lack of storage space in the Cougar. Lot of stuff ends up on the floor :) I replaced the pen holder in mine with a US spec pop-up cup holder, but it is a bit wobbly, only suitable for smallish cups. It will not hold a water bottle securely. As for the Capri, I would go back to black grill (and light surrounds?), but I also like the wheels you have now, so undecided there..
Just catching up on some of your videos. Your Cougar must be a rare beast? Just looked on Auto Trader and they have 1 in total! £2500 and it does look excellent. Definitely always prefer the Capri but I have warmed to the Cougar. Only made for 3 years ? Keep up the great content.😊
Thanks for the comment and for staying tuned to my Channel, I really appreciate it. Cougars are fairly rare I would say; I did not intend to buy this one but it came up for sale locally and well, here we are with it! Looks good parked next to the Capri. Thanks for watching. 👍
Never liked the pepperpot wheels. 1st thing i changed on my 2.8 i & my 87 xr2. The special wheels look much better. Think the colour coded grill works well in Silver.
That’s an amazing result for the capri ! Well done first of your vids I’ve sat and watched - love it ! Well presented and a lovely manner . Nice one I’ll be watching more- love the black grills x
Thanks so much for the comment and kind feedback about the video, it's great to know you enjoyed it. I just enjoying sharing my cars and the 'real world' experience of owning them. Look forward to hearing from you on other and future videos, thanks for watching this one.
Thanks for watching and good to know the video brought back some fond memories of Fords back in the days when they made properly cool cars. Thanks for watching.
Nooooo, 13 is unlucky 😂 Good work on the Cougar - important to get done before it gets too bad ..like mine was. Perhaps a US spec cubby hole in place of the ashtray would help the storage inside 😅 For the Capri, it would look stunning on original pepperpots to start👍
Hi Andy a great video again on those two equally pretty cars have always been a capri fan and my uncle still has his 35000 mile capri 2.0GL he bought new in 1983 seeing yours brings back many childhood memories it’s so good to see it being enjoyed and loved and it’s got so much better in your ownership Personally I would go pepperpots but I do like the colour keyed grille of the later cars Glad to see it do so well with the MOT and it did well for a car of that age I was just thinking what Birmingham garage supplied it was it Bristol street? It would be fab to get the dealer sticker for it! As for the cougar I also liked the new edge design and it worked well on the cougar ka and focus mk1 it’s a pity if ford had called it a new capri it may have sold better at the time have always liked them always so futuristic looking especially in silver so glad it’s doing well and you are enjoying it so much it’s a rare car and bet it turns heads All the best to you all and look forward to next update Daniel
i had the 2.8i special with the half leather interior it was an 85 model in light met blue i bought it in 1997 with 22k origional miles on it . paid just 1200 for it and sold it 2 years later for 2k…if only we knew then what they are worth now eh? same like my sierra cosworth (saff) bought in 2000 for 4250 sold it in 2013 for 5k ..my mate bought it off me and sold it about 5 yrs ago for 15k ! .. now i drive an FN2 type R and im not selling that ! Lol
Thanks for the comment. The way I look at it is, hindsight aside, we’re lucky to have these cars in our car history… but it is frustrating! 😂 The Civic FN2 Type R will be a car that climbs in value. To be honest, it’s already happening. Thanks for watching the video.
Great video again on two absolutel classics.. Personally I would go for the black grill and keep the present wheels gives it a Capri Special feeling to it.
Hi, love the vids, it must be hard work making all these videos, but im enjoying them so thank you. Just one point, the exemptions at 40yrs old are a bit different to as you stated, as you probably know, but some viewers might not, the tax free side caught me out, at 40, the car becomes immediately MOT exempt, the tax free bit comes into force the April of the following year after the car was built. The built bit is sometimes quite different to when it was registered, for example, it could of been built in the december and registered in the January the following year, but that months difference makes it tax free a year earlier, if it was built in the January it wouldn’t be tax free until the April of the year after, worth checking and the capri club are very helpful in finding out the date it was built. Also worth pointing out, free Mot status is automatic immediately but tax free has to be applied for at the Post office or DVLA by applying for historic status for the car. Once again, thanks for the vids.
Really love your Cougar! I hope it will keep on driving without any issues. Is it hard to find spare parts, or do you have any tips for someone that has trouble finding part numbers and parts themselves?
Thanks for the comment, it’s great to know you are a fan of the Cougar… as am I! As for parts supply, I’ve not found the Cougar too difficult to get the bits I’ve needed. A decent internet search has done the trick so far. Thanks for watching.
Hi mate, thanks for your video's, what is bugging me about the Capri is the passenger side wiper arm. It looks too low, are the arms on the wrong side?, it looks awkward. Thanks again to you.☺
Thanks for the comment. If you have a look on my Channel you'll see a video where I share the full details of how much I paid and cover the auction sale itself. Be interested to know if you think the car was good value. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for the comment. Nope, my Capri is a very late non-Special 2.8 Injection. It has the earlier interior, so fabric seats and the pre-Special gearknob and no leather on the steering wheel. A previous owner put the 'Star' alloys on the car and painted the grille silver. I prefer the look of the Special, but being something of a purist when it comes to the appearance of my cars I am suffering a bit of internal conflict! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
