Would love to see "before and after" photos of how the car sits pre- and post new rear springs to compare any difference in ride height. My 08 has 168,000 miles and I'm considering new rears and maybe new fronts. Also a little tip for removing and re-installing new springs (on any solid axle, coil spring vehicle really) - just use your jack under the opposite end of the axle you're working on...jacking up the opposite side makes the side you're working on droop very low and the springs will slide in and out easy, no compressor or spreaders needed. A trick I learned from my days of Jeeping.
Thank you for the great tip - I'll have to use that next time! As for photos, sorry, I didn't take any. "Eyeballing" it, I would say it's approximately the same, probably within 1/2" or so. I think next time I'd opt for springs that are 1-2" taller.
Here's a tip when installing or removing springs from these cars... Say you need to slide the spring in/out and to need an extra 3 or 4inches to clear... Have a jack on the opposite side of the axle and jack it up on that side and it will push the side your working on down to give you more room
I have a 2001 Grand Marquis LS and I swapped out the air springs for coil springs. I got a spring compressor tool and compressed them from 18" to 14" and install them. No removing sway bar or shocks. fits great. complete job to me 1 hour.
Hello again sir! My 07’ is in need of springs too, she’s got the Carolina Squat going on right now lol. How do you like those Moog Cargo Coils? Some guys say they’re softer then the stock springs. Thanks again sir!
@@WJHandyDad That’s actually what I meant to say sorry I had Biden moment there yeah I love how it made the stability factor feel with my car and it didn’t jack the back end up like I dragster, I just watched a video of a kid putting a lowering kit on his car, looks like its loaded down with firewood
Man gd videos and very detail on everything u do..none of that extra mechanic shit, just down to wat ur doing im doing it this weekend for the first time ill be replaying ur video several times im sure lol..gd job.
Do the insulators come with the springs or do i purchase separately? Looked at the amazon link and didnt see those included unless like i said, they come separately, to which, didnt see link for those
@@WJHandyDad Thanks for the confirmation - now I have a much better idea of what I'm getting when I put them in. (I tend to carry my toolbox in the trunk - It's not light)
When cutting springs it's supposed to be 1 inch of free length height = 2 inches of ride height difference. This means if the old spring 15 inch free length height would need a 15.5 inch new spring for 1 inch of higher ride height. I am betting the new springs would be 16 inches free height and you got 2 inches of height increase from the old ones.
Wondering if the new springs raised the rear any, seems like mine has slightly less space between the fender and tire in the rear, maybe new coils will raise it up a tad?
Hey Gary, I like how you used that strap on the coil spring before unloading it. I've heard folks say those things can shoot off like a rocket when you're least expecting it. So, what did you do to get the new sway bar bushing on? -Chris
Cut through the bushings on the side. Then you can pull them apart just enough to slip over the sway bar. They will tighten up nicely with the u-clamp on them. 98 Grand Marquis.
@@WJHandyDad what's your opinion on putting OEM parts or it don't matter I have a 2006 p71 Vic and everybody tells me u gotta run OEM parts or it won't last on these cars
I'm a bargain hunter and a DIY so I typically don't buy OEM stuff - but certainly not bad to stick with OEM if you can afford it. It just seems to me that there isn't always much difference in OEM versus inexpensive aftermarket stuff
@@WJHandyDad ty sir I've watched all your videos I bought mine 4 months ago just trying to learn more about the car so far IAM happy with it very reliable car I drive it everyday

it's either the greatest rubber/plastic protectant ever made or the most over-rated and expensive protectant ever made depending on who you ask. I'm running a test now and will upload a video once the results are final
that's hilarious! I guess the car can only roll backwards huh....no need to put anything on BOTH sides of the front tires so that it won't roll away or towards the back.....hahahaha like all the stuff this dude does..... jacks of all trades, are masters of none!
