I get that the lancia delta is my favourite sounding and the audi quattro is probably the most brutal and the startos is pure porn but with the mk2 it's just such a raw sound how can anyone who loves rally not love a mk2
My dad used to (illegally) rally an escort mk2 in the early-mid 80s, whilist he was also a police officer at the time🤣 I know one of his mates who used to direct for him and would feel sick when he went too drifts or fast. The car was bright green and white all stripes and stuff, really logos etc. beautiful car and I wish he’d kept it because I’d be driving it right now if he had. He didn’t want to ruin it because it was too pretty so eventually stopped rallying. But if I’m ever going down a dirt lane with him he’ll step on the gas and get that smile back🤣
Fantastic car; I had one brand new here in New Zealand in 1977, yes it was a Factory 1600 Sport, quarter race cam, Webers, special gear box, brakes and suspension. It went like a cut cat and handled like it was glue, you could change gear without using the clutch once yo knew the engine! It is still my favorite car. It also saved my life, because it handled so well! Mine was what they called Burnt Orange (to Match my Hair) with black trim.
Are there other RWD brands that competed with the Escort? If there were, nobody seems to care since all you still see racing are these old Fords. Much love.
The escort is way more popular than like stratos because there are more escorts in existance so it is a lot cheaper than for example fiat abarth 131 or Lancia Stratos
If only...there was one more stage (extra stage) of Initial-D, featuring this particular gen Escort vs (mended yet again) AE86. Or that Japanese show "Hot Version" doing exhibition time attack, that would be splendid, wouldn't it?
@@Datboi-qq4de I had videos on my channel but I deleted them, just no one would watch them really, since they’re old clips recorded in that time the quality isn’t the best, I could reupload them, but I only have like 30 seconds or so footage of the escort
Una delle macchine da rally più iconiche... Peccato che adesso siano tutte uguali, qui si che c'era della sostanza, e ognuno proponeva la propria ricetta
My dad used to street race in a Ford escort mk2 4 door on the mountain roads.my favourite cars are the mk1 2door escort and the mk2 4 door.i prefer the mk1
Hate to be cynical but I have a fair hunch it would be marketed as a "compact car" and such avoided by your average Joe who wants a Ford F-150 truck, a station wagon or something with a V8 (no matter how choked and anemic by harsh government regulations). There was a market for sporty compact cars in Europe because they were popular to race in rallies, touring car racing, club level racing, hillclimbs, ice-racing etc etc. Such a racing culture didn't exist in the US. Certainly not on a wide, national level. It was all dirt-track ovals, sprint cars and stock cars on ovals. Worse, even if they had been brought to the US it's quite likely they would have been seen as "student cars", "shopping cars" or "cars for housewives visiting their friends" (this was before gargantuan SUV's became their dream transport) and as such would have had the same fate as other "cheap, compact cars" in the US - being largely considered "disposable" , with all the horror that entails such as skipped service intervals, poor maintenance by their owners (students don't have money to just throw around) and ultimately earning an unfair reputation as "hopeless cars". It would have been a tragedy if this would have happened. Anyways, the interest there for this car would have been from small communities in certain "social classes" and those were too few and far between for Ford in Detroit to warrant an import. I also doubt they'd be astute enough to import it even if there *were* a huge, untapped demand for this kind of car in the US (or am I mistaken, you inform me). Ford's infamous accountants couldn't see beyond their graphs and numbers and based every "decision" of theirs from this.
proper car better than modern stuff nothing like a escort side ways and a bda lump on full chat no fancy electrics just a throttle cable bring them back.
1 month too late, but Rally car bonnets only hold on with bonnet fasteners and some of them are only bolted with three screws (small philips screws). Sorry about my english.
TGT252R .. my old 2 door . Sold to an Irishman who toured the UK with a car transporter hoovering up 2 door MK2,s for the Rally scene. I wonder if she still lives.
