Very big thank you for this video. I have been working on my 2000 Navigator 4X4 for the 3rd time. The first time, about a year ago, the back was down and stayed there, no pump kicking in. I used your other video to test the relay and a replacement relay fixed it. About a month ago, the same symptom appeared. I should have listened to your advise, but I bought another relay, and it did not fix it. Like your video said, it was the harness plug assembly. Then a week later, back is down again! But this time, the compressor is kicking on, then timing out. New symptom, new RU-vid search. By watching this video, the light bulb went off and I finally understood what was happening. I could play with the back height sensor, hear the pump kick on and off, and solenoids click, but no air coming to the back. I followed the air line forward, and underneath the air filter on the driver's side, a broken air line union!! Ford did not have any OEM styles, but I found that a little brass 3/16 compression union works perfectly!! I am now an RAS expert. :) I have an extra known good relay and height sensor and should be able to trouble shoot the next failure like a pro. Thanks again and keep the DIY videos coming.
Hey just wanted to say I appreciate your videos. You’ve helped me out on numerous occasions and it’s very much appreciated! Subscribed! Keep up the good work!
Good video man. Informative and well presented. Thank you for your effort. I've got a buddy at work that asked me to help with air ride issues on his 04 Expedition and I was just doing some research. One criticism though. You didn't give any credit to the dog at all. He looked so tired, I'm sure he must have done most of the work today.
Dude... Your a life saver my towncar jacked up all the way up after going over a speed bump in Chicago they're vicious compressor wouldn't make noise wasn't the bags cus if they were bad the car should off been slammed to the floor thanks to your video I looked at the height sensor it came off clipped it back on turned off the air suspension button unplugged the battery then put it all back to normal drove for a Lil bit and it went back to normal I'm gonna zip tie it like you said thank you so much
Great presentation. I picked up one of these for my son 6 months ago and noticed that the passenger side has developed a slight sag. When the truck is shut down, you can hear the compresser run out for a second or two, and then it leans slightly. When driving, the truck seems level from the inside. Ill have to root around a bit, but I have some ideas now. I drive a 1966 Chrysler, so I dont have these problems. Do you have any fuel issue videos for same vehicle? Having an issue there also.
Thanks for your excellent instructions. I have a 1995 Lincoln town car I just put a new air suspension compressor and bags, now the bags a pumped up to the max and the vehicle won't come down I still get a check suspension light on. Whats your idea on this?
Hello sir love your videos! Thank you!!! I have a baffling question. I just installed an all new pump and dryer in my 2000 Lincoln Navigator. My question / problem is my pump never shuts off and when I say never I mean never even with the car off and doors open it still runs and kills my battery. What is going on I'm going crazy. Ps I don't hear any hissing so I don't think there's a leak
Good looking bro, this video helped send us in the right direction. Now we we know it may be a problem with the control module, now we just got to figure that out...........liked and subscribed
Do you by chance have a picture or description of the location of the upper ball stud for the height ride sensor from the top (looking down into the engine compartment)? Mine currently goes under an angle below the steering shaft, but I have the idea it should be more or less straight up (looking at your video)? Some suspension parts (arms, bushings etc) have been recently replaced and I suspect the mechanic has put the ball stud in the wrong position so it's now in a wrong angle. When I'm standing in front of the car looking down into the engine compartment, the upper connection ball stud is now on the left side of the steering shaft (engine side). I have the idea it should be more upright, so on the right side (out side) of the shaft? Cheers, Mike.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO I HAVE AN 05 NAVIGATOR AND HAVE THIS CODE ALSO HAVE 2 OTHERS THAT ARE C1991 MODULE CALIBRATION AND U2023 VEHICLE COMM. NETWORK FAILURE NOT SURE WHICH CODE TO DIAGNOSE I DID HAVE LEAKS THAT A REPAIRED ALONG WITH A RIGHT FRONT RIDE HEIGHT SENSOR AND CONNECTOR THAT I REPLACED THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WILL NOT GO UP BUT THE REAR DOES I ALSO PERFORMED THE TRIM ADJUSTMENT, PNEUMATIC TEST AND MANUAL CALIBRATION NOTHING SEEMS TO HELP. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THANKS
Hi. How much time should take to the compressor, to get to the ride height? In a Lincoln Nav. 03. I mean since I start the truck and the compressor starts, how much seconds or minutes, the compressor should work.
I'm changing rear air springs on a 2001 town car, I have an issue... One side won't deflate... It's hard as a rock... To the point that I can't jack that side up with jacking the axel I have the switch turned off and the compressor disconnected as well as the battery disconnected.. Any reasons why it won't deflate? Second how would I take it off fully pumped?
Hey I have a question and I have been searching everywhere for an answer. I would THINK that somone else on the planet would have the problem that I am having but search as I might I cannot find any videos on navigators with front suspension too stiff. Its like rock hard and every bump is like armageddon occuring inside the truck. When I bought the truck the air compressor dryer had blown to pieces and I replaced the dryer and compressor as well as replacing the pigtail going into the relay. After repairing a melted hose and two line leaks the compressor fires up and seems to labor at the end of the cycle with the frobt end always staying high and the suspension stays super stiff. The rear was already converted to springs before i got it. I strongly suspect a bad front end solenoid but how do i go about finding this part. Not sure where to look and also not sure why this thing would keep firing up if the sensor is already detecting a fully extended shock. Any ideas?
hope you can reply to this, have a 99 expedition with air ride, the rear valves keep venting, it pumps up ok but can hear the vents open it pumps again raises the rear then the vents leak out all pressure, is there a central processing unit that goes bad and causes this?
@FordTechMakuloco great video as always, I recently got a 98 EB Expedition 4x4 previous owner reinstalled the AirRide sys after it was deleted; the rear left / drivers side always sqauts when the truck is off & it not only looks goofy its sketchy to drive for the 1st few mins, have checked all lines & fittings no leaks + no codes also I can hear the exhaust valve opening when the truck is off & I click the door lock button on the remote; before I delete it again & go with coils Id like to get your input on overridding the system; thinking to compress both the front & rear sensor things by zip tying them off & just have the truck in jacked up mode all the time. Unless there's an alternative way you know of / can advise please
Here's my deal. I have a 1997 SHO; a Navigator Owner at home got this same group of weird OBD2 Codes that I have. Note: My CEL is intermittent. B2ERR- BODY / B2TAE - BODY / C02
My 98 Navigator's air suspension stopped working altogether, and none of the testing showed any faults. The pump would not come on automatically, under any conditions. I let it sit for a couple weeks, and the battery went dead (separate issue). When I connected the battery charger, the pump came on. Any ideas on where to continue looking for the trouble?
Hello on my 2002 expedition 4x4. the pump went out and replaced it. all was good. Now my rear is sagging and will not pump up. the solenoid at the pump is open and not lettting the pump pump forward. it is running but exhausting at the solenoid at the pump. Then when it wants to the pump is running and the exhaust stops the rear still does not rise. I see a valve close to the front cross member. what commands that to open to fill the rear?? I believe it might not be opening the valve and filling the rear. like i meantioned though most time the pump is exhausting and the solenoid is not trying to fill. any help would be great.
2002 Lincoln navigator with the rear airbags removed the left rear sits much lower than the right is it a control arm or torsion bar when the system airs up it looks okay until the rear drops a little then left rear seems to sit lower
2005 Navigator Ultimate 2-wheel drive. Air bags checked OK by a professional. Ride height sensor are free. Front is always level whether up or down. When off for a while sporadically the front is on its bumpers other times up for a week at a time. Turning on the ignition the compressor does not come on while the switch is on or off. If i do not turn off the suspension switch with the ignition off when I open the door the front drops to the bumpers also. Can this be the computer? Hate to buy something that is so expensive and not returnable. Can you offer any advise? Marino
hi. i have a 2001 crown vic LX with air suspension i was told when jacking up the car i had to turn the switch off that's in the truck, why do i have to do this when jacking up the car or putting it on the lift also what is the right way to turn on and off the switch. dose the ignition have to be in the on position? or off? and do you have to do this too when you are putting the car on the lift? please let me know thanks.
I have a important question hopefully u can help me out my expedition is up high to its max on the rear and it wont come down , i will start to see with in a month that it has been lowering on its self how can i lower down the suspension manually with out waiting for that month to see it lowering pls help ?
Hi i would like to know your though. i have the same system with my expedition, but it looks like its sagging down, should i adjust the torsion bar or the ride height sensor? Im not really sure which is one doing the lifting, of its air shocks or the torsion bar
Nice video, but I have a question I need help with my 06 Lincoln Navigator, the compressor turns on and if the air arrives up to the selenoids that are next to the airbags, but from there it does not pass to the bags which is what activates or open the selenoids.. can you help me please..
Have a ? For you I have a 97 F- 250 7.3 DIT , how do you reprogram a new remote for that model they say jump 2 pins for a second under the the floorboard behind the cold climate package monitor
Bo Ingerson Note: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time. To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps: Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN five times within ten seconds, ending in RUN . If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors. Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.
I have a 2004 Navigator I replaced all the sensors. When I turn on the truck everything works fine pumps on and levels out. Wait a few and the back goes to the ground. Now if I open the door and close it the pump will turn back on and pump up the back then it will go back down again. Can't hear any leaks. Pump will not kick on by itself without me opening the door and closing it again. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Hey bud, I've got a 2000 Navigator and the last time I had this code and one other code for the rear fault, it was due to me adjusting the torsion bars. I raised the vehicle torsion bars after a full alignment and new arms, shocks etc and I didn't set new parameters for the air susp haha. After I used my scan tool I set new parameters and now it rides steady, no basketballing in the front end and now it raises and kneels as should. Has nothing to do with an issue like you noted which is all true, I've just been watching you for years my man keep up the good work! Oh, those sensors seemingly never fail, mine are 289k originals with no issues now after a lift and reprogramming
I have a 2005 lincoln navigator, the driver rear seems to ride a little hight than than the lassanger or it could just be in my head. But one thing for sure is that when in the park mode (deflate) the driver rear sits an inch higher than the passanger rear. Do you think adjusting the torsion bar may fix that?
I have a 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4 liter 4 x 4 I replace the two air shocks in the front the airbags and shocks in the back I also replace my compressor after the work was done the compressor kept kicking on every 5 minutes I use soapy water to locate a leak and one of the connectors directly under the compressor once I replaced it now I'm getting a sag in the rear air bag I tried looking to see if there's any leaks but there are none both of my sensors are connected to the bullpen as you stated in his video the one in the front and rear but still I get this sag help please
Also I notice now when I exit the vehicle the left side will not deflate as much as the right side would the left side would be higher sometimes the left side will not deflate at all when vehicle is off and I exit and lock doors
I'm having trouble where I have just replace both airbags in the rear. And I have installed a brand-new pump. Everything is working fine the sensor is working but one side is higher than the other i've waited a day or two to see if it will adjust evenly but it has not. Any suggestions?
My 2003 Navigator had a air leak in the front left air bag. After replacing the air bag all air bags will no longer fill up. The front is now slammed all the way down and the rear is down as well but not as bad. The pump is pumping and I can hear the air bag valves clicking on each air bag. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
Great video! Helped me figure out that I don't have a sensor on the passenger side of my 97 Expd 4wd. It's on the driver side just like in video. Is that normal or is it missing? I can't find anything conclusive anywhere. Thank you thank you thank you! But here's the real issue - Real reason I'm even down this path is I need a new passenger side upper ball joint and mechanic says I need the whole upper control arm. All aftermarkets say won't work with air suspension. MOOG Suspension told me control arm (they don't make one) needs bracket or holes where bracket mounts in order to attach height sensor. Your video and my driver bracket looks like it clamps around control arm. There are two little nubs on the control arm where the bracket settles into. So 1) seems like I could transfer the bracket to new aftermarket control arm, and 2) since I don't have a sensor at all on passenger side, seems like aftermarket would work fine. Ford offers one product, air suspension or not. Any thoughts? Thank you!!!
My 2001 Lincoln Navigator inflate and deflate uneven, I already tried to deflate at the same level by detaching the sensor from the lower connection, but still the same after a few cycle.
@fordtechmakuloco is there any way to remove complete message from ecu? Because i converted to springs and nothing left from Suspentions even pump, pain thing is my country laws not allowing to let that to trafic because of 1 class orginality removal, which system program can do that or what kind a thing removes or not give messages on dash warning screen?
Had a problem with my 99 Expedition, the rear air bags would deflate under heavy pressure such as carrying passengers or lots of groceries, was fine with just me in it, but it gradually got worse some times it was fine, then it would drag its butt on the road, checked compressor was fine no leaks, checked all air lines, were fine no leaks, checked rear air springs they looked ok, but it still leaked, I could hear hissing from the right rear bag so I got a new set of Air Springs, on installation I found the Old Air Springs to be just fine, although they looked a little worn they were not leaking and held pressure, however the O Rings on the Air Solenoids were totally Shot and this was where the problem was located, it would hold air just fine until it had weight in it, then the Air would leech past the O Rings and the Truck would go Down. Replaced O Rings and Air Bags, It now seems to be fine. it can be a real pain searching for an air leek, I though I'd post this here and hope it might help some one out.
I have a 2000 navigator check suspension light came on the rear is squatted but air pump won't kick on now tried another air pump still won't kick on tried another air pump relay box looking thing that's located near the passenger fog light that didn't help but if i run wire straight from battery the pump kicks on but that way wouldn't raise the rear i guess cause not being hooked up normal. What could be the problem
Hello! Would appreciate any help you could give! I have a 06 navigator with air bags. Compressor works fine. Front right will not lift. Rear is super high front left is normal. When compressor turns on front right does not even try to lift. Once again thanks for any advice you could give!
Hi, i have a 1997 eddie Bauer expedition and my left side is higher than the right side i don't see any height sensors on the right side do the whole air suspension works with the two left side height sensors?
I have a 2001 Navigator... Regarding the Front only....Is it possible that I only have a single height sensor on the front of the vehicle.... Found one easily, and looking for the other?
hi, have a 01 navigator with real air bags which deflated while towing a boat. replaced air bags . still flat. compressor turns on. but airbag not expanding. My question is .. is there a pressure release valve or something that might have blown off... and if so where is it located..thx
2003 town car just put new rear air springs now the pump want come on & the air suspension light is still on. what do I do? linkage looked fine when I was under it... with 160k miles I've never had any trouble with it before rear passenger bag blow. thanks adrian10kids
I have an 07 navigator. Passenger side front and rear are sitting down. Had it recalibrated, worked fine for a couple days and now the same problem. Any ideas?
hi, i have a 00 navigator and forgot to switch off suspension before lifting the truck, now the chk suspension is on, and the compressor runs after turn on the truck then stop then starts again on then shut off and a few miles later the chk lights on, i dont think theres leaks because the heigh of the truck stays on normal, what happend if i forgot to switch off the suspension if i lift the truck? do i need to recalibrate the suspension or any ideas what can be wrong? thanks for your help
+Linchiqui Trex There should be no effect except the compressor has to work extra hard now to bring the truck back up to ride height and may be timing out because it is weak.
I've got a code C1726 on my 98 Navigator. There's also a code C1917, but this code was pretty much since I bought the car so I don't think it matters. Because of the first code, the rear end rides very high compared to the front end when driving, after parking it vents the air bags properly after some time. I checked the rear and front height sensors and they're working properly. What else could cause this? Bad rear solenoids?
+drake7331 Pretty much there has to be a fault with the height sensor as the rear is over inflating and is either inflating or deflating without a change in height sensor voltage therefore a general rear pneumatic fault light occurs. The bags are holding air the solenoids are commanding on and off ok the only thing that can over inflate is a stuck on air compressor or the height sensor voltage. How did you check the height sensors? With a scan tool?
+FordTechMakuloco Thank you so much for your answer! I haven't really checked the voltage of the rear sensor, but I only checked it visually - it seems to be properly mounted , but I'll make sure and check the voltage too. Do you also perhaps know what could cause the C1917 fault code? I had it since I bought the truck, it doesn't however turn on the check susp light, but the code is in the system and even after clearing it, it comes back the moment you turn the ignition on.
What if the right side of your vehicle is sagging? You can only hear a clicks then wait for several minutes before it pump some air... They say it's a relay related issue, is it?
wondering if you can help me I have a 06 lincoln with air suspension issue, the compressor is turning on KOEO but vehicle is not lifting, how do I check if the vent valve is closing? vehicle is not lifting in the front and back thanks any help is much appreciated it does have 2 codes as well
my expedition's not nice enough to have the air ride suspension haha. I do have a random off topic question for you though. Can I use any valve core in the Schrader test port on my fuel rail? It's leaked every since I did the intake gasket and I just found it the other day and replaced the core with an extra one I had for a tire. it seems to be holding so far. Just curious.
blosom2315 Not sure on the materials but I would get the correct one cant be much and better to be safe than sorry especially when it comes to fuel leaks on top of a hot engine.
I agree but the guy at my parts store looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him for a Schrader valve for a fuel rail. I will do some more research and see what I can find.
Mine did the exact same after replacing, you guessed it, exact same thing,....intake gasket. Predictable but fiinnicky ole beasts arent they. Just like the missus. And thats how I named my ride,...The Missus.
hi i have 98 expedition that i just bought. this exact sensor u have on this video is just hanging from bottom attachment you unattached it but i cant find where it attaches on the top? on this video you dont show where is attached behind the wheel well cover. can you tell me where the top of that sensor attaches to?
Hi, could you please help me with a 2011 Navigator that has the C2002 fault code? The compressor is working good, the vent solenoids, the rear air springs and the level sensors too. There are no air leaks. The vehicule raises and lowers with no problem.
Hi....I have a 2009 Navigator.....rare suspension goes down complete after 5 to 6 hours of last driven.....will go back once you start and wait for some and its good to go.....what do you think the problem is?
Same problem on my 2007 EXPEDITION. Have not tackled anything yet. Hoping to find a common cause here to point me in the right direction. Planning to check/replace rear Ir bags first.
