Love the color, wish they'd put more classic colors like this on cars today instead of just on new Mustangs. Too many cars today are all the same dull grey, black, or white and they all look the same. Older cars were more organic, the cars of today are more like a bubble. Such a pleasure to drive my 79 F150.
grey cars and black trucks existed back in the 60's and 70's to, the difference between then and now is not so much the color, but it's the way the color interacts with the body. since most vehicles back then were solid steel bodies, when the paint dries, it becomes a metallic sort of color. well metallic paint doesn't fade or age fast on a steel body, modern vehicles use sheet metal, and the paint they use is matte. so when the paint dries, it has this bright shiny glare from a certain angle. so as the truck ages, the color fades it's original color overtime, especially in states that get alot of sun. however while older cars age better, in order to keep it looking clean for long periods of use, you wanted to avoid getting them wet for too long, or leave them outside in states with climates that get snow. because the paint will start chipping away, i like both for different reasons. i don't think modern trucks look bad, but everything gets boring after awhile if you see the same colors. the reason their were more color options back then, it's because black was sort of seen as a negative, and because a hearse was always black, nobody wanted to be seen in a black car. the classic limos of the 50's and 60's, along with the hearse, they were always black, so regular cars and trucks were often given lighter colors, so seeing red cars, yellow, green, teal blue, orange was quite common. but some trucks in the 70's were white, i don't recall any grey trucks, but it's possible they might exist. but the other reason people like them more, it's because some trucks would have a two tone color scheme. my 78 F250 was like that, Ford brought that two tone color scheme on the early 90's Ford F series, specifically the 93 and 94 model year. but 97 was the last year Ford made a solid, from 98 and after the F Series was all new from the ground up.
Man I just loves these old Ford's. I have a 96 F150 (which is the last year of the box style F-Series half ton before the 97 full redesign.)with 202,000 miles on it still going strong and it's a good looking truck it's got the old school look of a traditional pickup but it has power Windows, door locks, aircondition, and remote start.
Oh the nostalgia. My dad had one of these trucks back in the late 70's early 80s. Great truck.I believe his was stick shift, Stick came out through the center floor board. Not on the side of the steering wheel like this truck. Never had any issues with the exception of a small fire. I used to love riding in the cargo are when safety ws not much of a concern for kids or parents. 🤣 He worked on that truck every day until he got it fixed. Traded it in for a 84 Chevy pickup. Good old days.
Watching this makes me miss my old F-100 (that had also been handed down to me by my dad!). The smaller displacement V8 was actually a 302cid, FYI. Thanks for the vid'!
There's no reason to stop at 1970 when the fifth generation F-Series trucks were from 67-72. On top of that, the 73-79 trucks are every bit as good as the prior generation. Late '77-79 F250/F350 trucks were the best of them all. I prefer the old trucks but if you put an old truck up against a new one, the old truck is going to lose in just about every category. Where the old trucks shine is how well they hold up over the years whereas newer trucks have become disposable.
Ha they didn't know how to build a truck back then now is where it's at,they are so much better, now fords PU trucks is the most reliable and cheap to keep going than there old stuff, name me one Ford PU built in the last 20 yrs that isnt much more reliable and durable than their old PU trucks, why twenty five years ago they didn't know how to build em new is the way to go not old
What a lovely old truck, so nice to see an original, used but obviously well-loved vehicle, so much nicer than a restored trailer queen and with so much more character...
I love this video... Ford had a 300 six.. a 302 V8.. a 390 V8.. My favorite engine is the 300 six My son has a truck like this with the 390.. it will light up the rear tires !
you just named 2 windsor motors and a Cleveland motor. You also have the 360 and the 351 they put in these years as well. and not even naming all of the FE big blocks and other cleveland motors
have the same truck. Its an amazing vehicle. My gandfather bougth ir in 1970. I really love it. Some people dreams with a Ferrari... i dream every night with my 1970 F-100 champagne truck.
Brought back memories when I used to help my father, who was a bricklayer, and we always had trucks like these around when I was a kid and then later as a teen and learned to drive a stick (and manage a trailer). Okay, Nick. Enough screwing around. You need to get a Porsche 911 GTS and get back to making Porsche videos. The RU-vid community all shared in your sorrow when your last 911 gave you such trouble. It's time to bring it back home to a Porsche.
Stephan Wessels Thanks Stephan, I will be getting another 911 in the new year but the GTS is off the list, I don't like them at all, it will be a C2S or light spec Turbo.
Heh.. We bought an f-250 from a bricklaying company to use as a farm truck. That thing was beat to shit but just wouldn't die. Hearing that 360 start up brought back some good memories.
This is great, thank you for sharing all these wonderful cars with us. I really admire your passion for going out to complete strangers to showcase their unique vehicles.
These are "real trucks." I owned a '72 F-100, 360, 4 speed (w/granny low) PS...for 33 years! I've replaced it with a '70 F-250...bought it completely restored...460, headers, 4 bbl. C-6, aftermarket AC, PS, 3.73 Dana LS, it "hauls ass!" I get compliments wherever I go. I love it!
I've just bought a 1970 F250 Camper Special, 390 with a C6. Power steering, brakes and A/C. Got it for peanuts, it needs a bit of work and a respray, but that's why I bought it. Some thing to play with in my retirement.
A little TLC, and they run forever! I have had a '70 for the last twenty some years. It's a mild stock looking custom. I don't get crazy, lol! Wouldn't think twice about driving it anywhere. This looks like an "Explorer" package truck, because of the color. FoMoCo really tricked out these trucks! Thanks for sharing!!
If it’s not a 1966 Ford pickup truck , my favorite truck would be a very nice 1970 Ford pickup truck because the front grill is all chrome and it’s been put together right !!
Uncle Jesse predominately had a 1973-1975 Ford F-Series. It would change bed sizes and change from a F100 to an F250, but was almost never a "bumpside."
my uncle had a 170 300 il6 ….3 on the tree with manual choke...rode like a dream....why can't ford built this model again I would buy one in a heartbeat
my papa bought this same truck brand new showroom model. he sold it to my dad my dad got tired of 3 on tree and no power steering so he put a c6 auto and power steering and aircraft stainless dual exhaust. my papa put after market a/c in it it was just enough to keep the sweat off your balls. I got it from dad and put 1974 corvette rims on it with raised letters. everyone in high school knew me. it sounded great
My first NEW vehicle was a 1970 F100. But I always put a lot of miles on my trucks, so 6 years on I sold it. Inline "6", three on the tree and no PS---PB or air conditioning. The ONLY problem I ever had was the brake light switch fell out of the mounting bracket, killing the battery and leaving me stranded. Considering how I hammered it, that was miraculous. Of course simplicity helped. The single biggest thing I miss about the new ones is ya can't buy one with a stick. I LIKE standards. The manufacturers don't.
I own a 68 F100 that was my dads. It had 360 V8, but now a 390. Has the original C6 Automatic Transmission, rebuilt once. Over 500,000 miles on it. It does not look in this shape, as we used it. It still runs great. It will probably out last me
Always thought this would be the kind of vehicle (and vintage) for the typical cross-America road trip. Would probably cost quite a bit to do now with that V8.
I drove my 1984 F-150 351W from Philadelphia, PA to Great Falls, MT and back twice - 2007, 2008. Need a tune to get it over the mountains when I went through Colorado, other than that a smooth time. Surprisingly comfortable.
‘67 & ‘70 without a doubt the most beautiful trucks ever , 1970 was the last year of the ultimate iconic truck from the golden era , it had all the trim package of the 71-72 however last model with the thicker lower trim mouldings, and last year of the iconic 3 spoke steering wheel , 1971-1972 ain’t as beautiful to me , also the 1970 grille is perfection and very beautiful, 1967 also great truck many uniques features only available on 1967 as such the iconic grille the door skins with opening handle separated from the arm rest and the lack of side reflective lights !
Had one exactly like it. Paid 1500.00 for it back in 77. Owned it till 80. Was in Cherry shape too, came fron NC. i was 2nd owner. 302 3 in tree grabber blue. Same truck. Wish I had it now Had cragar ss mags and dual exhaust glass packs on it. Sold it for 1200.00☹️
I live these trucks. I got 2 1970 ford f100s both 302 3 on the tree 1 has been in the family since brand new and the other one I bought from the original owner. I also have a 65 f100 I restored and done a v8 swap to. great trucks will never own a new vehicle as long as I own an old truck. one of my 70 is a shortbed about this color it's harbor blue my other 70 is a 2 tone boxwood green and new lime the other one (65) is Arcadian blue Wimbledon white. I love them so much. would sell 2/3 of them. can't sell my family 🤣
my dads first truck was one those but in canary yellow ive been on the look out for one for a few years know to fix up and give to my dad his had the 391 and 4 on the floor
Getting this exact year and model for 500 bucks. Its go some rust and a small hole that needs to be bondo'd and sanded primes and painted. But it's got a 390 big block in it. Mind you the only cars I've driven were 6 cylinders.. Just wanna make sure I dont wreck such a beautiful truck out of ignorance of the power held underneath that hood...
I had a 1967 1F00. 300 SIX engine. 4 speed with granny low transmission. Mine also manual steering and brakes. I liked it lot but steering it got to my back. Someday I want another old Ford pickup but power stuff this time please!!
Nice video... makes my wait for the arrival of a 1965 F100 all the more hard to bear. It's almost the same, even the color. Three on the tree as well, and no power steering either. How's the ride without power steering? Seems ok from watching the vid. . .
Your thoughts on this? Would be great to see you do a review of it if you can get your hands on one. 2015 Lexus RC350 F Sport: How Does it Compare to BMW & Audi? - A Discussion with MotoMan
I have driven the RC350 F Sport but no I will not be doing a review on one, I really don't like that much about them so would find it hard to find things to say. MotoMan is correct however the leather work and some of the fittings (not the console or the Nav system which are 10 years behind) are miles ahead of BMW, also the engine sound is very nice. Performance is not on par with BMW or the MB at this price point and I think Lexus is trying too hard to look like an Audi. Over all I think the new MB C class is the current leader in this segment by quite a margin, and I suspect the new Audi A4 next year will step it up as well.
had a 71 w 302 3 tree etc first truck i owned 42k rusted to the ground but ran perfectly -cab rotted away to the point it rested on my steering linkage making it impossible to steer ,great truck tho lol
