True. But in my experience, a simple fluid change will usually fix that problem in the 4r70w and the 6r80. A lot of people needlessly replace the torque converter. Yes, some will need to be replaced. But most don’t need to. I just change the fluid. Within 20-50 miles of driving, the problem is usually completely gone.

Tiny bits of metal shavings buildup between the solenoid contacts/ shorting the sensors/ solenoid circuits for computer control. The new ones come with a foamy to help lol.

Yep. Went out in my '13 Ford Mustang V6 with the 6R80. Sporadic shift issues. It was the lead frame and luckily it happened in the middle of last summer before these parts got scarce . Got the part and the car has been fine ever since.

Been waiting on one for my F-150 since September. It had the loss of speed signal on occasion until it really had issues just a few weeks after first symptoms. It caused a downshift from 5th to 1st on a steep down grade and skidded to a near stop with no brake lights at night. This resulted in nearly getting rear ended and the driver following too closely swerved to avoid hitting my truck and nearly ran over a bicyclist. Been quite frustrating having a non-drivable truck waiting for a part with no known wait time for the part.

Ford is supposed to have a software TSB to prevent the transmission from downshifting into first gear while at speed. Definitely follow up and demand the PCM software reflash while you wait for the lead frame.

Same issue. took it into Ford dealership and they said it wasn't a recall issue. Now every so often my truck still throws a P0720 code and goes limp. 🙄

Still a beast of a transmission. 260,000 miles on mine. Original, has not been rebuilt. Fluid changes, and I change all fluids religiously.

Best transmission I have ever seen. It’s actually a ZF base design. Ford and GM partnered and bought the design from ZF they worked together and adapted the design for truck use. Ford builds their version and GM builds theirs. GM however did a lot of cost cutting and has far more issues than Ford.

@@AlphanumericCharacters It is amazing how one plant can produce transmissions for two companies, does work in some aspects, can carry parts over to the other one. They been doing this awhile, almost 30 years Ford and GM collaborating on transmissions. Thank God Ford never was interested in GMs awful AFM.

Those and bridge seals . If this unit doesn’t blow a cooler line and run out of oil it is one of the best 6 speeds for sure .

The torque converters are ass also, they slip and shudder all day until you get it changed, or if your fluid is garbage.

Had mine changed when I bought it used at 144,000 miles. Haven't had an issue sense. Dealer shop ignored my request to out in a new tranny filter. I didn't forget MIKE MURPHY.

Ford will Not Fix the 2014 ford f150 that is and has the same issues. The 2014 was not on the recall list and they refuse to fix and or repair their incompetence for their transmission issues! Be well rest assured FORD has really let their loyal customers down!

Fighting one of these now in a 2015 transit 150 3.7l. Keeps throwing p0748. First came in with all the typical issues. Replaced lead frame. Comes back with p0748. Replaced pcm. 3 weeks later back again. Replace transmission with certified reman. Month and half later back again. Load test trans power and lpc command wires. Test good. Check pin fit of case connector. A little lose so replace case connector. Got call today. Did it again. Any ideas? I can drive this thing for miles no issue. Customer gets it back and it fails.

2009 king ranch f150 with 118xxx. Got it back from third shop today and now they are saying torque converter. First guys said it was the lead frame listed in the video. My question is, will my torque converter throw a code? I'm having 0 codes display. No check engine light. Very noisey and slipping, strange shifts. The least amount anyone has offered to do it is $1,900. Thanks!

So I have a 2014 f150 5.0 transmission had got coolant it so we got a trans from a 2011 but it was 5.4 so the trans shop told us they are the same just need to change out the pump and Torque converter for it to work did that didn’t start from the key and had to start from the starter so he told us it was that and we’ll we got it new and now it starts from the key but after sitting for a while the first shift is hard as hell but drive fine right after and I got a 14 5.0 mustang auto wanna know if I can just swap in a out lol?

It’s not a recall, the warranty was extended but not by much. It’s an easy fix. Replace the valve body. We do 1 or more a month and it averages 1400-1800 to fix depending on vehicle.

2016 f150 5.0 4x4 6r80 transmission shifts smooth 1st to 3rd. Makes a kinda whine noise and then slightly slips and slams into 4th and then will quickly shift into 5th and 6th. And shutters in 5th and 6th. No codes. But I can use select shift and shift through all gears with no whine from 3rd to 4th and minimal slip. It won't slip and slams less hard into 4th when on the petal heavy on acceleration. Any ideas? I was told by shop it needs a new transmission.

I just had to drop the pan and put in a tans conductor plate. The truck wasn’t reading trans temp right and also it was shifting real hard and eventually it wouldn’t go into gear. Replaced the part and now it drives and shifts smooth. We put in new fluid and now it shifts good but it makes a concerning grinding/shudder noise only right as is shifts gears. Anybody know what can cause this. 2013 f150 5.0 6-speed 261k I’m concerned because my 15 gmc sierra developed a shudder and now it’s being rebuilt but the ford only does it in between gears. It sounds expensive

My range sensor went bad in my 2011. Truck wouldnt start because the sensor was jammed in "drive" position. That was not cheap

Knock on wood but I have a 2013 f150 with the 5.0 and 6R80 and it hasn’t given me any issues, it had a recall where it would randomly downshift into 1st but we took it to the dealer and got it flashed and it’s been perfectly fine since

Everything will have a certain failure rate. Nobody makes videos about the literal millions of these with zero issues. They are fantastic transmissions. I used to be a Ford tech but now I work for a fleet. We have hundreds of these transmissions in service all the way back to 2011 trucks with over 200k miles. Hard miles too. They get worked. We have replaced exactly zero, ever. We do have a stringent maintenance plan however. Fluid and filter every year. That averages about 20k miles. That would be too often for normal use but our trucks are worked hard in a very hot desert climate. The GM version of this transmission is also very good but we have had to have several rebuilt or we installed a reman unit. For this lead frame issue we only had a couple go bad but they are a simple repair that doesn’t even require removal. The 10R80 is a whole different story.

@@harrisonmauldin5090 don’t let anyone put anything but Motorcraft ULV fluid in it. Many companies are coming out with catch all fluids. They say they are ULV and LV compatible. That is nonsense since they are two different viscosities. You can’t be both. Also most shops are going to screw up setting the fluid level. There is a procedure. Simple but if you don’t look it up in the book and follow it you will fail. It’s extremely important on these transmissions that the fluid level be correct. More than the transmissions of old.

@flyingwrenches what would cause my 6r80 reverse not to engage after a rebuild? If feels like it wants to but just doesnt. If i back down a hill i get minor surges from the reverse gear but not enough to push the car even on flat ground.

I took the valve body off and went through it completely replaced the seperator plates and checked all the valves were moving freely and adjusted the linkage position still no luck in resolving it. This past weekend i took the tranny out and checked the thickness and play of all the clutch plates/packs. They were all within spec, so i put it back together and threw it in and still no luck. So i just bought a used tranny from lkq and im gonna install it this weekend. My truck is my daily and ive spent too much time trying to resolve the issue.

@@themurphyboys8045going to have a buddy of mine who works at a tranny shop in town go through the it after i take it out. Let him take his time to try to figure out the issue. He said he would do it for free. I had to rebuild my tranny cuz one of the shafts snapped at the gear and i lost 4th 5th and 6th. Ive never heard of that happening before, but it was a uses tranny to begin with, cuz i bought the truck a few years back with a tranny that was about blown and bought a used one then to replace the bad one. For the rebuild i replaced the broken shaft with the one from the trucks original tranny and replaced the bushings, clutches and steels with new ones. Pretty bummed the reverse issue popped up after the rebuild

What happens is when your driving on the highway the truck jumps into first gear then starts bucking. Had mine changed it was recalled however I had to pay 100% go straight to the ford garage don't waste your money. Cost me around 1500 to get fixed all trucks expire.

REMEMBER TO WATCHOUT FORVTHE RANGE SENSOR ON THIS CIRCUIT. I accidentally knocked it off track when placing the valve body back in the transmission. Needless to say, I had a pony no start/ crank due to the misalignment on the range sensor. Be attentive of the sensor. Now I have to redo the fucking job tonight

I have a 2011 F150 3.5L with over 250K that shifts hard from 1->2 and 5->4. It also shudders (feels like misfiring) driving at higher speeds (above 40mph) under no load. I'm not the original owner so I don't know if they have replaced the leadframe or valve body. What are your thoughts on replacing with the newer valve body with Leadframe as a starting point?
