Issue: Some 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may exhibit excessive white or blue

• 2015-2017 F-150
• 2.7L EcoBoost engine
• Customer concern of excessive white or blue smoke from the exnaust at start uo after a cold soak.
Service Procedure
1. Does the customer concern include oil consumption, drivability symptoms, or any other concern along with smoke
from the exnaust?
(1). Yes - this'article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostic (PC/ED) Manual for
normal diagnosis.
(2). No - proceed to Step 2.
2. Replace the left hand turbocharger oil supply tube. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04E.

I have a 2016 f150 and smokes on startup so I will be taking it to ford to be fixed as I have a extended warranty, in my younger years I would of tackled this repair as it doesn't seem to be that hard just alot of taking stuff off that's in the way. You make it look easy and very instructive. I only have 101k on my truck and it looks like new inside and out my last driver is a 1994 f150 with 225k on it and have had hardly any issues with the 5.8 and the truck itself. i have a 2016 f150 with the 2.7 and mine has 43k on it currently. its been in the shop since september. took the truck into the dealer for this same problem and was told the cylinder walls were scored and badly damaged. dealer replaced the engine and turbos under warranty. pick up the truck up on a friday after the new engine was installed and end up returning it back to the dealer the very next day after less than 100 miles because the new engine spun a cam on the driver side cylinder head. now ive been in a dealership rental since october waiting on an engine. i love my truck and this is a great video i just wish this was my problem instead of the engine dying at 43k.

No that’s not good to do in my opinion as it will be a small boost leak, catch cans never hurt to have either but it’s some what of a bandaid to mask an underlying issue. I do not have a catch can and everything is good now still and it has 141xxx miles now

@@swrvtech I work on large industrial gas fueled engines and our engines are equipped with a 5 psi check valve in the turbo oil supply line. This prevents oil from flooding the turbocharger during pre-lube when the seals are most likely to leak oil into the engine. If they replaced it with the updated one, I’m assuming they did, then the problem may be turbo seals or something with the engine, that’s also assuming they cleaned all the charge pipes off oil. Also the catalytic converters fail when oil soaked.

@swrvtech They said there is "special bulletin" on this but didn't elaborate. Both times it says Tube ASY, gasket, stud & nut replaced. I mentioned maybe they should look for the root of the cause but they blew me off. It did it the 2nd time after only 3k miles. Don't drive it alot. I'm worried about when the warranty runs out

@@swrvtech So should I raise a fuss if it returns again & demand they go further to fix it?

I put the part number in the description that showed the most up to date part number at the time I made this video, and I always look for the root cause myself but not everyone might.

@@swrvtechThanks. Water is still sitting in the tailpipe & dripping. I don't see this on other trucks. Is that another problem?

Saved me alot of time and money SWRVTech, thank you! Anyone watching, get the replacement tube as soon as possible. I waited a few months and the price went up $75 online, and double at the dealer. Probably doesn't help the problem is becoming more common as the trucks age...

You’re welcome and that is crazy to think it went up that much but like you said the demand is going up.

I have the same issue 17 f150 133k no issues aside from the smoke on start up . Someone said if you change to 5 40 smoke goes away, he’s been running it for 2 years now no issues problem gone

That is a way thicker oil which would starve bearings, to each there own but I like to address the issue in stead of band aiding it

Yes it did, the cats fail with oil going through them so that’s why I got the full spd performance exhaust and new o2 sensors and it’s been great since

Hey, just curious but when I look up the part number I find some for 50 bucks and others 150. How do I know if I bought the updated one or the original line? Would you be able to link the exact one you got so I know it’s the right one

@aleclush7403 the part number in the description is what we bought from the dealership, I don’t remember how much it was though.
