Have you tried ice/heat when dealing with difficult seized bolts? Ice on the bolt, torch around the bolt - something I've seen my dad do a couple times but not certain I've seen others do. Clever on welding a nut to the bolt!
Yes I have used a torch before. 2 problems in this situation. First a couples of the bolts are located right by the plastic gas tank. Dont want to use fire there! Second, the nuts were in hard to reach areas so would be a pain to get to with the torch anyways!
I heat the bolt head with a torch then WD 40 spray. Hours later I give the bed bolts a good solid whack with a hand sledge then I use my DeWalt Impact driver with an impact rated quality bit.
Very nice for Home job, but I would’ve done some rust mediation wire brush that frame and then sprayed it with something and then sprayed the whole thing with used motor oil when it’s done
Thank you. I agree, but the main purpose of me doing this was to trade in the truck with the better bed so I didn't think it would be worth the effort.
I tried my bet but the footage did not turn out when welding . and that did not work even so why show it? I had to take a grinder and grind the heads off... Not much to show just sparks flying. The install was easy, just clips that slide over the frame.
