Could the 'win' by Ford be down to less weight, i.e. aluminum body? Does Tommy get 'risk pay' because of standing between two trucks that might have fish tailed off the line?? ( hahaha)
"And your problem is ?" -- My problem? You said that like you discovered something very important they overlooked, while in the video he was repeating that over and over again.
npsit1 They seem to think they can get on the highway going 45 and just cut off anyone in the far most right lane. (I won't say slow lane because we don't need to get into that topic)
Can you guys do a video where you all explain if you were to buy any new truck (unlimited budget) what would it be? You can also do it for what new car you like the most. Ask everybody at TFL like Andre, roman, Nathan, Tommy, Charlotte, Etc.
Ya why would a work truck be made of nothing but the best aluminum. Stupid! Next Ford will make the Mustangs out of Steel. Completely backwards company.
I’d love to see a video from you guys of the 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi vs the F-150 2.7 EcoBoost vs 3.5 EcoBoost in an uphill towing comparison with a 10,000lb trailer.
For the love of God when will you guys understand that rear end ratio does not mean anything on its own? You need to compare the transmission ratio and the final drive ratio and tire diameter to say anything meaningful.
yeah these mostly key board analyst don't know shit !!!! the phord has like a 3:90 1st gear compared to the rams 3:23 and a 2:32 to the rams like 1:81 I believe from there they are pretty close. and any fool knows that that makes a huge difference in acceleration. not to mention the 400 pd differences in weight. plain and simple the hemi makes approximately the same torque and a lot more hp 25 - 30 so motor for motor u PHORD boys are camping out !!! just give ram the same tranny ratio and even with the excess weight the hemi would have beaten him easily. !!!!
Funny the Boss 6.2 engine was designed for fuel economy and longevity and the Hemi 6.4 is marketed for high performance, yet the Ford wins decidedly. I'm betting it does at least an MPG better than the Ram on the efficiency loop too.
MJorgy5 I work for Chrysler. You are wrong. The 6.4 in the rams are designed to be a work engine. They are completely different than the SRT motors. The 5.7 is faster than the 6.4 in the rams.
Is it bad that I bought the cheapest most base model regular cab Ram 1500 just because it had a Hemi and was 22k new after rebates? HP per dollar was all I was shopping for and the salesman was so confused because of that.
Who else is super happy to see videos about classic, regular cab, work trucks? Also, please take both of these up Gold Mine Hill. You did that with the Chevy WT; I want to see how these competitors do.
the black grill really makes the truck look cheap. that, and it's white which makes it even look more cheap looking, but i guess if you use it for a work truck than looks aren't going to be an important factor.
I've actually liked Ford's base models recently (among a few other brands/models). I feel they have good designs, but the uptrimmed models look tacky and brash with excessive chrome and plastics that are made to look otherwise (and fail IMHO). The Escape, Explorer and F-Series all come to mind first.
the RAM looks like it was hit head on in to a mack truck left the imprint ? and with my experience with RAM and F350s AND F450S work trucks and our work trucks changed from RAM to the F350 and F450 , OUR RAMS USE TO BE GARBAGE THE BODY'S ALONG WITH THERE FIAT TRANSMISSIONS ARE A GOOD BOAT ANCHOR'S , THE CUMMING'S ENGINE NO PROBLEM ? SO WE SWITCHED TO FORD AND SINCE WE PICKED THE F350 AND THE F450 WE HAVE NOT BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR NO RECALLS OR ANY PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER UNLIKE THE FIAT RAM
This is a great video but at least compare apples to apples because the ford and the ram are both single cab and two wheel drives while the Chevy is for wheel drive and extended cab that makes a big difference.
We have a f250 and ram 2500 and the ford is a total beast at towing a mini excavator the ram well it’s getting the tranny replaced with less than 10,000 miles Gm trucks are dogs compared to both
I like Ford’s bought that Ford sound God awful it sounds like someone put that truck in a tunnel and they started reving it and I’m hearing it from the other side of the tunnel
Better test: Put 1500 lbs in bed, then do a 0-60-0 test. That is closer to what a work truck does. Maybe load it up and do a slalom course. Drag racing has so little to do with any real life driving situtations. That being said, I love that you have work trucks. This is what I think of when I think "truck". The super expensive parking lot queens that most people seem to buy never see real work. I have worked with real trucks, ie base models, my whole life and they are better than any fully loaded "limited" edition truck any day.
Second this. While these videos are neat, something unique like the above could really be interesting and quite feasible to pull off given TFL's connection to Mr Truck.
Mike Hess Better? Nah. Just serving a different purpose. Farmers have always used theirs for everything, including going to church. Now they can do it in more comfort if they wish.
The most weight have I have done was in a 98 f350 with a 7.3 power stroke. Pulled a 24 foot goose neck flatbed with about 16,000 lbs of slate flooring to the top of a mountain. 6 speed with a granny gear for first. The whole truck would twist when you would try to get rolling. It was an XL model with standard cab and a 12 foot flatbed. That was a truck. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. Everytime. I wouldn't ever take a new Platinum Super Duty anywhere near where that truck went.
These are real work trucks. Good for farm and working. What trucks are for. I like that ford. Not a ford guy at all. I cant find one at a ford dealer ? Why no real trucks on lots?
If near 400+ HP trucks give you issues merging safely, even with a load, you are doing it wrong. Yes, there are some fast freeways with short merges, but with reasonable speed and good driving, I don't think there is a vehicle sold today that is "unsafe". When carrying a load, I will always be 10x more concerned about my braking ability and performance than I am with acceleration.
after decades of being the slowest truck we are in the golden age of Ford Power. about dam time Ford , lol. now apply this to the rest of your lineup. i agree the package with the nice headlights and tires are really nice. base... not so much. get a longer drag strip.
Fiat/Chrysler? Yeah Fiats influence has really deflated the balls of the brands it's attached to. Look at Dodge under Fiat rule for example! They've made the fastest SUV, fastest sedan, fastest muscle car, fastest track car and straight up the fastest production car ever made. Damn I wish Fiat never saved Dodge so Ford and the bowtie boyz could have a fighting chance.
Thank you guys for Finally getting an updated 6.2l test against the competition. Now we just need to see some Ike action! Keep up the good work thank you for the work you guys do reviewing these trucks.
Not sure about Ford 6.2 but the Ram 6.4 hemi was "TUNED DOWN" for the usage in the RAM. IF RAM left the 6.4 hemi at the 270 hp and 270 torque it would for sure been way ahead of the Ford in this race. But they TUNED the 6.4 down to obtain better durability and hauling indurance. Would be a nice option if they offered the 6.4 with the 270 hp and 270 torque if you were not buying for heavy towing etc. Would Bet it would be a whole lot of fun to drive in the 2500 and even more fun if it was in the 1500 RAM.
Ford has better transmission gear ratios so even with the 3.73 vs the Rams 4.10s the Ford has effectively lower (or higher numeric) gear ratios ( at least the 2-3 used here) and its lighter. This easily makes up for the deficiency in Horsepower.
