I can't thank you enough for this video. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I'm intimidated at the prospect of replacing a part like this which requires removing other parts to reach it. The video de-mystified it to the point where I decided I could really give it a shot. I even ordered the part using your Amazon link (I hope you get Associates commission on that). Total cost was $50-$60, including the part, coolant, and a new hose to the overflow tank (I busted the old one while removing it.) I had all the tools I needed (which wasn't many). What's funny is my car's symptoms were Identical to yours, and my component was broken in exactly the same way as yours. This would've been many hundreds of dollars had I taken it to my mechanic, including what he would've marked up the part for. Best of all: I actually enjoyed the job and felt like I knew what I was doing, and got a huge sense of accomplishment when I finished and took the car on the road for a test drive. THANKS AGAIN!
Awesome! Not many things better than the feeling of a successful repair knowing that you did the work, understand the repair, and saved a lot of money in the process. Thank you for telling me your situation. I really enjoy feedback like this!
My daughter’s car has been down for this very reason for a bit over a week now. You posting this just 3 days ago answered my prayers…LITERALLY! This vid is perfect. I’ll update you when I complete. Again, thank you SO MUCH. You put the “super” back in dad today man 😂🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@DCAutoEnhancementgot the part off. Same exact thing…broken channel and seal expanded angling downward at top…where the coolant bubbled out when finding the leak a week and a half ago. Again…thank you so much brother. Huge help and big 💰saver on labor cost for a $50 part 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽✊🏽.
The plastic wasn't cracked on mine but this was my issue. I could not find the coolant leak until I watched this video and felt under the water outlet and had a little coolant on my fingers. Thanks a lot for this video.
goat tier video. my 2012 focus has a coolant leak in the back right of the engine bay. first video i open I hear "you probably have a coolant leak in a 2012 ford focus... if this is in the top right of your engine"
So helpful, this part went on me on my way home tonight and thanks to you I already have the part ordered and I’ll be ready to put it in tomorrow night
I literally changed every hose and didn't even think of replacing this piece. I still have a very slow leak so I'm going to get this changed out soon. Thanks!
Great video which will hopefully help me find the source of coolant leakage on my 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 Ecoboost here in the UK. Changed the expansion tank filler cap, checked underneath the tank and it's dry so will investigate this plastic part and see if it's leaking there. Heater matrix connections are ok as well. Thanks for this info 😉 Subbed
😂 yeah so did my father when he 1st checked out our family member's focus. I tried telling him I highly doubt that's where it's leaking, and most likely from the outlet housing, but he said he checked and confirmed it was that bung.
@DCAutoEnhancement, Just got home from a long drive, I notice that there's lot of coolant drippings in my garage. When I check it has the same issue as in your video. I am thankful the you posted it. I will give update as soon as I fixed it. I will do it my self because i am afraid I can't get out in my garage with this situation. Thanks
My daughter's car had gotten hot enough that she had a warning on her dash. I assumed she was just low on coolant, as I was filling it up she pointed and said is it supposed to be doing that? I looked and it was just pouring out of that plastic piece but it was flowing up in to that circular opening and I couldn't tell exactly what was going on. Long story short, I had it towed home and the found this part to be broken, and apparently it's pretty common. Good luck to you on the repair.
I found a damp coolant colour patch In this location after smelling a burning smell on start up passenger side on my tdci smell disappears really fast and inspection noticed this area. Got mechanic having a proper look Monday
My outlet failed as I was returning home. After pulling the car over, I noticed the reservoir was empty. After getting the car home, I began filling the reservoir with coolant. My "no initial leaks" was soon replaced with "what the heck"! Replacing the outlet myself, is much less expensive than having the car towed and diagnosed.
Yup, I had the exact same issue, and I THINK it was broken in the same spot, about 2 years ago on my 2012 Focus. I think it had about 120K miles on it then.
Maybe, if there were missing covers or openings in the firewall. If you are sure it is coolant, it could be a bad heater core. If there is a chance it's water and you have a sunroof, the sunroof could be your issue. I hope you get it figured out
That's where I thought this one was leaking. What is happening is the water is shooting into that hole at the bottom and when it comes back, it looks like it's coming from that hole. That hole is actually blocked off and there is no way for the coolant to come from that hole. You have the same problem that I had with this car. I wish I could have recorded what I saw initially.
Definitely still the water housing I had replaced that bolt that goes there and it ened up being the seal was blown inside the housing and it was shooting the coolent up the seal is like 11 buck at autozone btw
@@luisparamo9402 I can't find any illustrations that help me out. Is it possible that the thermostat housing itself is cracked and spraying up on the part you are seeing?
@@DCAutoEnhancement thank you for responding ! I finally removed the intake manifold ! There is a coolant hose that runs back there. That's what was leaking! It busted ! Thank you.
Forgive me, I thought this comment was to a different video. 🤣 I don't remember how difficult it was to get to but maybe with the right extensions and or a swivel adapter for the socket maybe work
My coolant leaks too and the tech asked me to change the block heater! Can you help with finding the right part number for the block heat? I drive Ford Focus 2015, 2.04L SE gas. Thank you
Is there a way to make sure that this is the issue? I recommend also adding a description of symptoms in the beginning, as in: "If you have noticed coolant going missing, and the hoses seem to be ok, then you could check here, and thus see whether the issue can be verified." Then I, as the viewer would immediately either recognize or dismiss the video.
Thank you for your feedback. The way I found this to be the issue is, as I was filling the coolant reservoir, coolant started spewing out at the side of the engine block where that round recess is. I hope this response was helpful.
@@DCAutoEnhancement Thanks for answering. In my case, I have just noted, that my coolant level was very low. Granted, I hadn't also checked for 6 months or so, but it was well below the minimum coolant level. I will check again, with the engine on, id I have also coolant flying out from the sides.
I didn't pay attention to where the houses went but usually there prob three different sizes small medium and large the medium size would go to heater core, small would go to over flow, and large would be for radiator.
@@DCAutoEnhancement I just mean stream as it came out in a pouring leak yes kind of in that area and I see some residue of coolant on the right of where that be in the indents of metal I just haven’t worked on these engines and kind of odd they have a leak from here if so
It will cause it to over heat and hissing is possible. You can try filling up the coolant with water, if it comes out right where this part mounts to the engine, you will know.
Exactly what this guy said . That’s what’s happening to me !! I thought it was the head gasket ? … I drive a ford focus 2012 sel hatchback . It has 285,547 miles on it ‘ my motor was over heating and when I shut off the car it was hissing and I smelled burn water ? .. so I put water drove around . Open the hood and saw water with bubbles hissing at that same spot 8:28 . .. so for sure it’s only that part that I need to change ?
Funny how everyone's (one I'm working on included) housing, has that little plastic wall break off in same place thus causing gasket to no longer seal. 2012 focus.. and my daughters 2012 Cruze has equally crappy, flawed design of plastic water outlet housing/coolant lines/proprietary junk connectors!
If you removed this housing to replace the thermostat, possibly but it would have been residual coolant rather than an actual leak (in my opinion) I would just keep a close eye on it though.
@@DCAutoEnhancement I got my water pump fixed today because I thought that was the cause of the leak and my car still leaking I got the reservoir fixed too it’s no holes in nothing . I went to like 3 mechanics and they just keep saying different things idk what it possibly can be . My heat still work and my ac but I’m so sick of refilling my coolant everywhere I go .
@@lifeofdede7400 do you see a puddle under the car anywhere? If not, there is a possibility that you have a bad head gasket and the coolant is getting into a cylinder and being burnt through your exhaust. If that is the case, you would have white smoke coming out of your exhaust.
@DCAutoEnhancement thanks for getting back to me. There isn't a thermostat it's pretty much like yours. Yah the plastic was broke and it push the gasket and broke it like yours did
@@2005fordmustanggt I don't know if you could get the hoses in the wrong place but it sounds almost like the heater core is bypassed or the coolant isn't flowing through it. Did any of the plastic break off, any chunks that could have gotten into the coolant lines?
@@DCAutoEnhancement That's why I keep my 1979 Pontiac Firebird. In the family for 40 years runs like a champ. NO PLASTIC BS! Even the headlights are glass and do not fade!
@jimmyboyles2868 those were the days. Someone must have realized they could make even more money for longer if they made the parts out of plastic by continuing to make and sell the plastic parts that fail!
I have a question mr DC auto enhancement if you don’t mind, can a bad water outlet housing and a bad thermostat housing be a reason why my radiator fan doesn’t spin anymore? Thank you
Thank you for your question. I believe it could be possible that this would cause the fan to no longer spin if you are low enough on coolant that it can't read the coolant temp.
@@DCAutoEnhancement thank you I think it’s all making sense now, I replaced my broken radiator with a new one but I noticed that the skinny hose that connects to the coolant reservoir to the top right corner of the radiator, the hose does not fit into the radiator properly and it’s completely leaking all the coolant. (I got the radiator from a sketchy place). Judging from the information I’ve told u mr DC auto, do u think I may be onto something or am I off? Thank you
@@luckiecks6861 potentially. If the sensor can not get a reading, it may not activate the fan. On the other hand, it could be a bad relay, maybe they forgot to plug the fan back in when they replaced the radiator, fan could be bad. The way I found my issue was when I was filling it up, coolant started pouring out on the side of the engine where the coolant outlet is. I hope this can point you in the right direction
They break on these cars every so often. Mine has 287k only issue I have ever had from it a bad BCM to but it’s livable just annoying with the door locks mines a beater anyway 😂 I sent my buddy with a titanium this video his is broken at 86k on a 2017
