Autocar this week rated the Megane as 5th in the Best Drivers Car 2010 test. 1. Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2. Noble M600 3. Ferrari 458 4. Lotus Evora 5. Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup 6. Lotus Elise 7. Mercedes SLS AMG 8. Audi RS5 9. Jaguar XJ Supersport 10. VW Scirocco 11. Alpina B5 S
I drove both of these cars and in the end I bought the Megane rs, it just made more sense as a day-to-day car and to be honest I felt a bit stupid sat in the Focus!
You all probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Anakin Winston thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Amazing. The focus RS Is now for sale used for 20k so it's only dropped 5k in depreciation. The Mégane can be had for 250 and is easily upgradable to be more of a focused weapon but the RS is a monster with mods too....
The one fundamental aspect I've not picked up on from posts is that you adjust the steering feedback through the drivers settings menu when at standstill. default steering setting is light and too unresponsive for me. I drive an RS everyday and it's an awesome tool. Happy days.
You look a bit close to the steering wheel. If you tilt your seat back a bit more you might not feel so high. If your wrist sit on top of the steering wheel when your arms are straight your in the right seating and driving position. I'm 6"3 tall and have found the driving position in this car to be engaging and comfortable.
@87MattyH an overtaking test without having to drop it down ws the idea.. the focus is 4k more expensive anyway.. so if u add things to the renault up to the value of the focus ;)
I have a 11 Megane rs250 with a few mods... 251hp at the wheels :) The ford looks gorgeous too, but I ended up in a Megane because it was cheaper. Ford in Denmark is more expensive parts than Renault etc...
From this review i feel the guy is saying the megane has the better chassis but the focus has a better engine and is more theatrical. Anyone else agree?
I hope they bring the 2015 or 16 RS to Canada. If the Yanks don't get one neither will we. I need to get one to replace my aging GTI. 4WD would be much appreciated.
sitting position in my MK2 ST does suck. came from a beemer and felt like I was driving an SUV. check out the review by Chris on the M135i - BMW know how to get seating positions right. What I can say for my ST is that it's the only car where I can sit the wheel as low as possible and still see all of the dials perfectly. On the Golf 5 GTI and BMW 135i the top half of the steering wheel always obscured my dials and I had to raise it for track use.
@Englandforever91 the fact is as a performance car, the megane is better than the FRS, and the awd system on the new focus is goin to be like 280hp to the front and a 50-80hp electric motor on the back, so its still gna be basically front wheel drive
Just read today that the seat height can be lowered on the Focus RS but you must take it to a dealer and they must remove the seat to do so... crazy but at least there is a solution to what seemed like a might problem :)
Chris, I remember your first test on the Focus RS for Drivers Republic...You said "It's a great place to sit" talking about the seat position....Am I wrong?
Megan Rs was & is the darling of car writer's. But in my humble but Ford based opinion. I still think day to day the Ford Rs is the car that every man & everyday driver is going to be able & feel more accessible car.
for me personally the focus RS should of been 4WD from the get go with at least 350bhp to compensate the extra weight of a 4WD system over a FWD one, after all it comes from a rally born division, even though the revo knuckle is no doubt fantastic it shouldnt be FWD, its true that these cars would of then became more expensive in turn but there are so many ford RS enthusiast's that i think it would have little effect to be honest, it looks like a rally monster therefore should be set up like one
You guy's shouldn't be arguing over which hot hatch is better....here in canada there is no such thing as a hot hatch. But then again we do have the Mustang!
I just rolling roaded my Focus with 5500 miles on the clock, with an exhaust and airfilter it made (with 2 runs being the same) 316bhp and 332lb\ft ..... so not down on power then ?
@steflotti105 Why would you be in 4th gear at 50mph when driving quickly? Thats a pointless test. With £500 the focus will be producing over 350bhp - we are comparing stock with stock, not stock with mapped.
@cumbas First of all, no insults!!! and i never played video games and i'm not a kid like probably you. Ok man the track the megane might be good but that doesn't metter in real life situations!! And one great exemple, is the power that the focus have and low rpm's (like roll from 50mph in 6 gear)
@choffle33 - P.S. -> I also love the fact that your 43500 GBP performance car is owned by a 26000 GBP "french shit", as you called that Megane that you blew away between traffic lights, in a straight line. As for the cart insult, i may not own two "performance cars", but i do have a brain and a tad bit more common sense than you do. I drive a 2008 Megane. Goodbyes.
LEON CUPRA R is a real car to test....he would eat that small reno..... expecially CUPRA R(306 hp) that comes out in holland this year... this guy knows s hit about cars
@Englandforever91 it is a better sports car you, as far as performance is concerned. it might well be all of those things that you said, and i would have a focus rs over it too, but thats isnt what im arguing. the fact is actually, that the renault clio is best hot hatch you can buy. if u watch videos of the FRS, it rolls and oversteers all the time which prevents you from getting a good clean lap time. the renaults dont, they track properly and just grip.
@antonyr123 RS=Renault Sport, the part of Renault who makes sport cars, and F1 cars, with factorys in UK and France. It's not a copy, only one coincidence. Maybe this Renautl RS fuck a Camaro when the road is not a straight line, with less smoke and drinking less than a ton of petrol per km.
and the gti is a better car to drive than the r32, the big 3.2 v6 places the front wheels under a heavy load and the GTI is much better through the corners!
@123sdtb £500 and the megane 250 will be producing 300hp, weighs less and has better gearing.. it beat the focus in a 4th gear roll out from 50mph.. (see my link above
Ferrari's great until you hit the same bend. Seeingthe thumbs down, I wonder if there's much more "Renooooo" fanboys than the Ford's. BTW, I also own a megane so be gentle ok? :)
The truth is in 2:28 : "Whatever the Megane does, however technaly competent it is, it will never match this thing for just pure bulls out, in your face, fuc# you, im around performance. There is nothing else like it!"
@Englandforever91 When you buy a car with your own money you look at them different. The focus is 35 000 euros and the megane is 20 000euros, so I can buy a megane and a used bmw 530d. Think about it
@weed46 The Megane humilliates a lot of RWD cars with more power. If you like make circles on the road for impress some girls, maybe you got the reason. If you like drive with precission, you are wrong.
@choffle33 - Fact: Renault Megane R26 (2006, stock, 227 HP) @ Oschersleben, DE track time > 1:51:78; Jeep SRT8 (2008, stock, 420 HP), same track > 1:56:00. That makes your extremely powerful muscle car slower on a racetrack than the Megane RS which you deemed "french shit". Why? Because it cannot corner as good. QED. I have nothing against US cars. I just hate *stupid people* with muscle cars who take on lesser cars and call them shit without realising that their own cars are shit in corners.
@akumadriver Says nicely evo in the lower right corner. I dont have anything against renaualt but come on renault 270 horsepower? Thats bullsh1t. I know renault made excellent job with the handling but focus has just more power. And i have tryed a renault... Clio sport. Car goes nicely and handling is excellent so i bet megane is even better but to compare megane with the rs and saying its better is lame... And this guy is talking about some connections and shits... who cares about that...
@Imperator0426 i totaly agree with u. @akumadriver i dont care at all who is it evo or autocar they both suck by far. Their tests are pure crap. Renault payed them for a nice commercial thats all so car would sell better. If u wanna see real stuff go and watch jeremy clarkson on top gear and not this "top gear wannabes" cheers
@antonyr123 Silly you!! The RS in America means Rally sport, and rally does not exist in America. They call it Rally racing?? Uhhh What?? Rally or Racing or do you mean Superbike motocross? Or Drag race nascar? Ha ha ha ha!!! How silly - how silly!!!! RS means Rennsport in germany, Renault Sport in France and so on - big deal!!
@alliennere give only this stat is a pure illogical idiocy of noob and dont testify of teh comportemtn of these car on true roads.. OK Focus is also a great sport car of course Ok 50hp more than the Megane RS for the Focus Ok 0.2s bettet for an 0 to 100 BUT on the really road the Megane is by far more fun and more great and performantes to drive and beat the Focus RS in spite of this 50hp less because the comportements of the Megane RS is better than the RS on a true roads conditions
WRONG with the exception of the Gti which I have you cant actually own any of the other cars. They are way too ostentatious and flashy who could live everyday seeing people mouth the word 'tosser' as you drive by! Not I
you love the Trophy cup don't you.Every video you do you say the Trophy is the better car.You even said that when trophy was up against the Honda type R.You even made out the trophy was quicker round a track than the Honda.Which I know not to be true.I have watched my videos with these two car's. The Honda wins by over half a second every time Mmmmmm
Just drive one and you'll see why. I've not driven the Type R yet (next couple of weeks I hope) but the RS 265 is a magical car. Took me 2 mins to fall in love with it.
