I’ve had my RS 250 cup since 2012. It’s at 120k and runs like a dream. I get 28-30mpg out of it. Had the remap which gives it a lot more torque!! And only cost around £200 to get done. It’s a fun everyday car that still look like new even tho it’s 13 years old. Great vid, I subbed.
Great video - glad you like the RS! In Australia, I have an RS250 Cup Trophee, stage 1 RS Tune - so about 300hp. Mine sounds amazing but not over the top as it still has mid box but rear box has been replaced with mandrel bent 3" pipe, so has presence but is quiet at HWY speeds. Have the black leather recaros, directional head lights etc. With 18" axl wheels and PS4 tires this thing just sticks like a monorail on corners at high speed, in the wet, on really tight under maintained Australian roads. Going to the local shops to pick up milk usually ends up in a 20 -30km drive. I also have an HSV LS2 V8, which is ballistic, but does not have the twisty road handling. I will not be selling the RS!
I'm looking to pick one up as a daily here in VIC, currently I daily my LS1 swapped FD RX7 but I am looking at moving away from the project car life... idk if this car is a bad decision for that haha Have you done much modification on yours? And do you have any pointers on where to get performance parts like exhausts for them in Aus?
@@adamjacobs4209 I have a custom made 3inch mandrel bent exhaust replacing the back box. Front box is untouched. Gives it a deeper exhaust note, not raspy. plus its been tuned to take advantage. I also have an LS2 HSV. 0-100 HSV wins by a country mile, on the corners the megane wins by 10 country miles...and is more fun!
The RS button also can fully disable stability control, single push slackens the stability and improves throttle response, long press disables stability control with the sharper throttle response. One other minor point, cambelt is every 6 years or 72k not 5 years but some countries such as Australia have shorter intervals possibly due to the hotter weather
Looking at getting one of these next, this review is excellent for a small channel. And 250hp may not be much to you but it’ll be huge coming from my 135ish hp swift sport. The commuter+track car is exactly what I want, my swift sport gives me that and I’ve just been waiting for a time when insurance comes down enough to own something a bit better (I’m 19) and this looks perfect!
Thanks - the RS250 is a great choice and you really won’t be disappointed with. The added bonus is that with it being turbo charged, should you need more power in the future, 300bhp is only a re-map away. 👍🏻
@@FastandFun I don’t think insurance would be happy with a remap haha- also, do you have any pointers on how to tell a cup from a ‘non cup’ when looking at these on auto trader etc, I’ve heard of the red brake callipers but that’s it- a lot of sellers appear to be selling cup cars without them listed as cup cars. Thanks for the reply also!
@@James-bw1lw tbf it’s a bit of a mind field, as there’re Cups and Lux with Cups, and Cups with Lux pack, etc,,, the only way to definitely tell that it has the Cup pack fitted is download the “My Renault” app and type in the reg no. That will show its spec and whether it has the Cup pack fitted!
I'm in the same position as you, looking to get one in the next few months, I'll be coming from a daily/track car MX5, i will miss RWD but from what people are saying about the 250RS I really shouldn't let that put me off it.
Thought I would comment and subscribe after the Cayman review. They megs can be retro fitted, just needs another stalk and coding. I completely agree about the 19s,and the lsd after driving both with / without. Proper hot hatch, best one for the money no question. I would own another...again!
Two very different cars; the Meg RS is much more modern, quicker, better in nearly every area, but the MX5 is RWD, one of the greatest gear changes ever and you can use more of the power more of the time, as well as learning the limits of car control at much lower (safer) speeds! Love them both ❤️
I am looking to get one of these coming from a MK2.5 MX5, i love the MX5 it is an incredible drivers car but I am looking to try something faster, modern and still fun.
@@FastandFun I feel your pain, very rarely can I take mine out for a spirited drive without something happening, I think people sometimes do it on purpose! 😡
