OMG!!! Irony of Ironies. I just pulled my 2011 Ford Fusion FWD 3.0 in the garage to change the driver's rear wheel bearing. I fired up RU-vid to search for some pointers, and low and behold.....today's video is exactly what I'm doing! Been subscribed for a while now, but this might be the first time I have been able to apply your knowledge. I wanted to tell someone about the irony, buy my wife and kids really didn't care. LOL
Thank God, NOT an electrical problem.😃As much as I can appreciate your diagnostic knowledge, it does get old. Every time you put the camera underneath those New York cars, I can't believe how much rust is there. I've seen better rotors. Always nice to see Mrs. O.
Going to blow up the interweb by flipping the chisel around and hammering on the pointy end🤣🤣. I will admit to having done that before myself instead of grabbing a drift. Every tool has a hammer end as you have taught us👍. I also like the “shiny” comment, Malcom Renyolds and Jane would approve.
It happens , for me once in 42 years as a mechanic . ... Years ago I did the chisel flip . Just too lazy to walk the four steps to my tool box for a drift . Felt a quick sting in the side of my face and didn't think much of it . Next morning my cheek was out like a chipmunk and I was off to the hospital to get the chip dug out of my face . Glad it didn't hit my eye. Made me a believer in safety glasses .
What a beautifully easy bearing to remove.....As someone who lives south of the salt belt, I always enjoy watching you northern folks with all the fancy tools to deal with that nonsense. But this one, just gave you a nice easy day. No torches or grinders required today.
Just got finished with a 13 hour double shift from a restaurant . Saute. In 100 degree heat. I was in a bad state of mind. Until I saw this. watching/listening to Eric work and Mrs O's smile especially. Hard to stay negative seeing that.
Hi, Mr. O. I was happy to see a wheel bearing that was so easy to replace. There are still lessons to learn though. Mrs. O. does a great lunch! Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
You are the first mechanic I have seen hit on the sharp side of a chisel. I have been doing it for years w/no damage. Nice to see a really GOOD mechanic at work!!
I feel like the tire mounting machine should play the ice cream truck song when it rotates. Having a bad day? Mount some tires. But on second thought, Eric may have to leave and get ice cream each time, so there's that. The only thing that would have made that bearing setup easier was push-in pistons on the calipers.
That adhesive prep would have been great when I worked in auto at Walmart. The amount of time having to fight with cleaning the filthy rims that came through only to still have the weights fall off when balancing.
I think this guy is the only mechanic I've seen, in real life or on the tube, that doesn't use a 2lb hammer for everything. Choose right size for the job, my father taught me. I'm not in a snow area so I do sympathize with the corrosion you guys have to work with. If my car ever looked like this underneath, I'd freak!!
I live in Virginia but I had a 2011 Ford fusion that made it to 321,000 mi before the transmission sent it to the salvage yard in March. Besides normal maintenance the only thing I really had to do to it was replace the driver side CV shaft. Even at the end of its life the engine still only burned about 4 oz of oil over a 10,000 mi oil change which I was really impressed with. And I know several people who share the same story about those Fusions. They were great cars.
@Jimmy S Tell me about it, I just had to do the front wheel bearings in my Lincoln MKX. Shop quoted me $200-300 per side so I bought a press for $160 and did them myself. Not fun though haha.
Thank you Mr Olson I have a bad wheel bearing that’s going out and now I can get it done thanks to you for this awesome video on how to do it mine is a 2014 ford fusion. Thank you sir for all you do for the people across all states
Speaking of bolt torque I ask my dad how tight to tighten head bolts, he said “get them as tight as you can the tighten them another half turn”. I did break the first head bolt off. He lifted the head off and used his pocket knife to remove the broken of bolt. This happened many years ago. I always enjoy your videos, keep them coming. 👍
How did I forget to stop by! Just got back from camping trip with the family, Letchworth, Four Mile Creek, it was first time for us doing some NY camping. Beautiful area! Peaceful. This bearing/hub came out so easy I think even the bluebirds were singing the whole time for you. The only surprise was the dirty mits while surveying the kitchen. I have heard of ,'God made dirt and dirt don't hurt' , but when it comes to the grease scene, I think I have to pass.
Mangos are great, mate! We have had mango trees planted on the footpaths(AUS for land between gutter and fence line) here in Sunny, rust free Brisbane, QLD for many years. As a kid we'd climb them and pick the ripe ones, then go home and eat them over the edge of the bath, so the juices ran down your arms then dripped off our elbows into the bath.
Your videos have saved me and my family so much money. Thank you so very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to show the people's hiw to do this stuff. You sir are a saint.
I know you've explained it before, but it's still cool to see how you make sure to break and seat the bead in ways that protect the TPMS sensor. It's practically reflex for you.
Mr's o is an 11 Eric your a lucky man and a brilliant mechanic love your videos and always look forward to the next especially the nuts and bolts stuff thanks Eric
Don’t you think that mrs o is lucky getting a guy like Eric, I do, great work ethic loves his wife and kids, and he’s a nice guy, greetings from Ireland
It just amazes me how rotted the cars get in the rust belt. When they finally make it to the crusher there can’t be much left once they are crushed.Keep the great videos coming.
Nothing to do with the cars, its the people and lack of care. Hose your car down when you get home on the chassis in winter, have it undercoated and protected good with either a spray on liner or some non-flammable protectorate. Good to go. Also try and drive as little as possible on roads right after they were treated, never drive along the curbside lane where the salt brine collects.
Thanks for showing the tire and wheel work. Your machine looks quite a bit different than the old one I used back in the day. Neat! Nice to see your dedication to doing it right...prepped the surface before adhering the new wheel weights so they stick 👍
Mr O you crack me up! I love listening and watching you work and giving Mrs O a hard time! You two are awesome! Love the quick work you made of that bearing. I have seen many shops/mechanics beat those things up and still not move. You are awesome, keep up the great work you do. Love from AZ ❤
had to be the EASIEST bearing EVER taken off in New York State.....usually, it takes three pullers, a 20 ton press, rose bud propane torch, new backing plate......and on and on...consider this your lucky day....go play the 760 million dollar Mega Draw now
Another great video Eric. I work at a tire and lube shop, cracked rims are more common than you think because of how thin the rims are. Use a lot of your videos for quick references. Thank you for all you do.
How thin the rims are and how small the sidewall of the tires are that are used on newer vehicles. There isn't enough space and air in the sidewall to allow it to absorb larger hits.
Been watching you since I was in hospital for major surgery. Thank you for the entertainment. You are a great mechanic. Fun to watch. I was always a do it myself kinda guy. I have learned some things from you that will help me if I get back to work. Thank you Eric and Mrs O
I usually place the sensor just in front of the duck head, that way when you start spinning the rim to dismount the tire, the tire is lifted away from the sensor and the sensor doesn't accidentally get hit by the duck head. But I reinstall the same way. Valve stem leads the tire around the rim. Thumbs up. You'd be surprised how many new guys I tell this to, yet I see them doing exactly what I tell them to not do, then they get all upset when a sensor breaks, and I have to show them what they did wrong since they chose to not listen to me. Oh well.
Awesome as always! Just had to replace the front drivers side hub/bearing on my 04 Chevy Colorado when I arrived to my Labs/Campus yesterday. Started really going fast right as I pulled in, and I mean bad, which as a mechanic have never experienced anything like that before.🤔 I promise Eric.. it had literally started making the soft grinding noise the day before.. weird.😬 And yes... I am definitely trying the "Ten I See" on my wife first thing tonight as I get in LOL. Have a great week and keep on making these great videos! 👍
ford fusion, rear wheel bearing, when you took off the tire a semi was going past your garage same time while working. when a lug was taken off it was shifting gears and it while the air gun. I thought it was a new sound effect that fitted in, but I was wrong. I just liked it. at .33 seconds in.
Thanks Eric a nice smooth job for you to handle, and was nice to see the love of your life as well, gee she looks after you there well done. Stay Safe Stay Strong Mate 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖💖💖
Oh wow just got this video and my son changed wheel bearing on my 98 Ford expedition today and now watching you do it, Love your videos and your family such a great family
Nice cream job there Eric, and 15 dollars for the scrap pile on the old alloy , Bonus 🤣🤣, Mrs O definitely is the boss in the office , kitchen , classroom , super multi talented young lady 😉
You dont need those rotor sctews at all. They are there to hold the rotor during production. You should lightly coat the mating faces with antiseize, imho. That rotor was toast if you ask me, but nobody is. Lolol What a great job on that tire mounting Mr. O!
Great line, but mrs O wasn’t fooled, ur right she’s a ten, so is ur channel, man how I wish I was closer to ya, I got a lot o work to do on a 05 Colorado, thanks for posting
Once you called that tool a "screamer" I thought of Sam Kinnison every time you used it after that. OH OHHHHHHHHHH!!! OH OH OH OHHHHHHHHH! Can't get it out of my head now lol
Well that was a nice one. Hey I watch some old 7 year old video where Mrs. O was working on her car because you didn't have time. She did a great job. Better watch out someone is going to swoop in and steal her from you. She's a keeper.
