You know what, we had never made that connection. The Mondeos are not very popular over here, and when you do see them they are way smaller than the Falcon, but you're right, this definitely has Mondeo styling ques. The Falcon FGX (the last aussie falcon) has an even more Mondeo like front end. Well spotted.
I get 8.4 litres per hundred k on the highway at 110kmh. And all the power a man could want. It is a fantastic long distance car. Just eats up the Aussie roads with total comfort.
If i had the extra few grand last year i would have bought the fg g6e turbo than the fg xr6 i have now. In my opinion the G6e is the best luxury sedan money can buy.
New to the channel, loved this review, but wanted to add as I work on & modify these FGs every day of every weekend for a largish audience, don't bother with fitting any genuine Ford or after market rubber diff bushes go straight to the Superpro Polylast kit, there are companies out there & hobby modifiers like myself that will do the drive in & drive away Superpro bush kit install for $600 - $650 compared to Dealer prices of $800 - $1000 for genuine rubber bushes that will fail within 6 months guaranteed :) I am at nearly 5 years and 100,000ks with several stages of power being pounded on with 500kw for the best part of 3 years sent through them, and are still like new and in my experience fitting lots of diff bushes I have not had one complaint about noise or extra vibration over stock rubber, Superpro knocked it out of the park with these Hybrid design bushes.. :)
@@ZeroTo60Tube I've done just the normal bolt ons with a modified F6 turbo with the larger .7 front cover, 12 psi actuator and flapper mod, Process West stage 1 cooler & intake, 4" dump and cat, 1000cc injectors, PAC valve springs, ARP head studs, 535L Walbro intank pump, and a great tune by one of the best in Queensland Lee @ RealDyno, and with the MCA purples it puts the power down exceptionally well on a stock sized 245 road tyre (Bridgestone RE003s)
I have been running E10 in my G6ET 50th anniversary model. It runs turbine smooth on E10. Much smoother than on other fuels. Try it you may be pleasantly surprised. Ford really got the E10 engine management spot on. Far more powerand smoother than runnung 95. I can t feel any differenence in power next to 98 which I used to run all the time. Just musch smoother and more responsive than 98.
For the average family man you have the best of both worlds a comfortable family cruiser and something that can put a smile on your face when you put your foot down. A nice honest package to use as a daily driver imo.
Great review, honest, fair & free from waffle! 5/5 stars. Heat exchangers can corrode causing the infamous milkshake, ruining the gearbox in most cases. The ZF fluid is ridiculously expensive & gearbox service is anything but straightforward, compared to most other cars. Unlike the XR6 Turbo, G6ET didn't get LSD. Would love to see a manual XR6 Turbo on the channel, see how they compare..
Thanks man, appreciate the kind words. We actually used to have a parts shop and have sold 100s of these radiation’s, but neither of us thought about the rads during the review. ZF fluid is really expensive. However about 2 years ago Penrite released their version. It’s called Penrite BMV and I’ve used it in 4 BMW ZFs so far and it’s worked perfectly. You can normally get it on sale for $40 for 4 litres, or if you can get a deal over the counter I paid $160 for 20l last time. Gulf Western also make a version for a similar price but I haven’t personally tested it. Definitely check it out next time you are servicing one. Yes we should have touched on the diff in the video, it’s one thing that’s holds these back but the different ration kind of makes it a nicer cruiser. A manual, couldn’t agree more.
I use Nulon synthetic fluid in mine, it's about $80 per change at trade so not expensive at all - and the pick up filter & pan gasket isn't expensive anymore either thanks to so much 3rd party support now for what has become a very popular transmission. Not sure what you mean by "anything but straightforward" - I've done it 3 times now, it's very easy, the only slight irritation is having to fill from the side of the box (so make sure you have a good hand pump), and having to run the car through the gears with the rear wheels in the air to circulate the fluid before topping off.
As a G6ET owner I think I just got the reinforcement I needed to keep her and improve on what she's got! Should add Trans cooler to the list for about $600 installed, as is a must for a hard working trans. I have just done the brakes and can't get over the transformation. The only problem is SA Laws prevent most modifications.
We think are going to be a future classic. They have so much potential performance wise and they still a really nice car to ride along in for long trip or weekend cruise. Definitely cherish it. Shame about the laws, i think its a problem everywhere in the world. Always drive safely and sensibly and you should never end up in too much trouble from the boys in blue.
Got one 8months ago, Replaced the heat exchanger for piece of mind first week, diff bushes were done and that can be expensive at a dealership. Still have to do the trans fluid/filter which is going to be pricey also. All in all its a great car for me be it stuck in Sydney traffic or a awesome cruiser for highway get outta town duties
I have a standard 2008 G6E (no turbo) and its a nice car. Keeping it but an SUV would be easier for me at my age really I must admit. I had my 4 spd BA serviced by an expert and then it played up. Leaving the ZF tranny alone.
I think for something that’s going to be used on the daily, auto is the way to go. Way more comfortable and still nice for the occasional sporty drive. Just miss out on the clutch kicks.
Had the 50th anniversary G6ET - brilliant experience. Now in Vf2 6.2 Calais V. Miss the motor - the v8 just hasn’t ‘got it’ . Now if commodore had the turbo Barra that would be nice. Shame ford G6ET didn’t get to create the level of improvement that occurred between ve and vf2. Maybe I’ll go back to one of these.
Forgot to mention that I ran mine on 91 then went to 98 and had miss at startup. Reverted to 91 and it ran smooth as. Hood lining is typical falcon issue too needed replacing after 4-5 yrs.
Ohhhh hood linings.... another good one we forgot about. Did you ever get to the bottom of why it ran better on 91? We have seen a few comments on this channel about aussie fuel and sulphur levels. Do you know if the 91 you were using had any ethanol blending in it?
@@ZeroTo60Tube Never used E10. I was using BP ultimate. Dealer had car for couple of 'goes' - never got it sorted till they drained fuel and replaced with 91 and said something about it does not cope and I took it to mean that it had 'self tuned' to E91. Sounds strange - but used 91 after than and never missed a beat. BTW current commodore is 20th or 21st. commode. - lovely car - but not as good a G6ET. The ZF and motor of G6ET are much better than VF2' offering. Cruise control is better on falcon too.
Commode is easier on tyres - doesn't have the torque down low like ford . Ford will wear rubber with heavy right foot. Ford could have done with LSD- good feature on Commode as are the heads up display and 'sonar' warning lights in mirrors to alert one as a G6ET overtakes
I've got a 2010 model and it still puts a stupid grin on my face when I see it. My first changes were aftermarket heat exchanger for the ZF milkshake issue for peace of mind and upgrade of the discs and pads, in my case due to the previous owner putting the normal XR6 DBA rotors on meaning only half my pad was on the disc.
@@ZeroTo60Tube It came with ID1000 injectors & XCAL already. However this year I've been looking at what I want to do first & will go the Plazmaman stage 3 intercooler kit plus X-Force turbo back exhaust with cat plus a tune, which usually gets you into the low 300KW mark safely.

Love the way you guys talk about the diff bushes being a cheap easy fix 🤣 It ain't cheap and it ain't easy. The whole rear end has to come out which many ordinary people can't do. If you go to a mechanic you are looking at $600 to $900. And the transmission cooler is a really poor design which is a known issue. It can kill your ZF with the dreaded 'milkshake'. Apart from that they are fantastic cars. Cruise or Hoon it's there for you. Had a run with a 335 the other day ...... neck and neck from 40km/h to 100km/h. Got done by an M5 at a set of lights a few months ago though.
Compared to my anything on my N54 BMW the diff bushes on the Falcons are very easy🤣. But very fair point, some people would struggle with it as a diy. Yeah and also good point about the trans cooler in the rads. We used to sell a lot of those rads back in the day. They really all need converting to external trans coolers, to avoid the milkshake and improved cooling.
@@ZeroTo60Tube gotta agree N54 can be a massive money pit, if you don't do a lot of the work yourself. Unfortunately a lot of people cheap out on maintenance with it and just sell it of to the next buyer.
My only problem with my 2010 G6ET (so far), is that the rear end cant handle the torque for more than so many k's. Diff bushes etc, even my stock ba had issues. Admittedly i drive like an idiot, but still......
It's a shame the Barra or the Falcon itself never made it to the US. The Falcon since the AU was better than any US-available Ford sedan up until 2012, pretty sure an AU XR6 VCT would run circles around a crown vic patrol car. The Barra is a much more capable engine than the 3.5L so a much better fit for a pickup truck, but it never saw the modernisation it required to remain competitive (regarding fuel economy and max torque RPM).
It's a bit of a strange one. The Barra is a definitely a simplistic design. Maybe Ford USA felt it was too basic to compete with rival GM engines of the time. The barra is amazing with some aftermarket tuning, but sitting on the new showroom floor in stock setup, it doesn't seem quite as impressive i guess. In a world of direct injection it is a dated design.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Ford went with simplistic with their new 7.3L petrol V8 so it's well within their scope to use the Barra. The Barra Turbo in factory trim came with a maximum limited factory output of 500HP and torque limited to 479ft-lb (transmission and cooling limitation). The 3.5L Cyclone was developed for a couple hundred million, the Barra could have been modernized for maybe 1/5th that BUT one major show stopper is it is too large to mount in an east/west orientation.
Zero To 60 well that’s true, if only they had advertised them rather then relied on wiki an google, seems the only way to know they exist really, even Ford dealers look at ya funny when you say F6E, you always hear the don’t you mean G6E 🙄
Shame we don't have the G6e in the uk. Ford pretty much killed 6 cylinder engines with the ST220 being last one I can remember, with the exception of the Ford GT which is basically for millionaires.
It's funny how the Barra never made it to Europe or the states. Its such solid engine. Then again i guess reliability doesn't encourage people to buy new models does it.
Some are as good as genuine. But try and do some research on who is selling them. Often the cheapest ones are sub par, but some of the aftermarket stuff is made exactly the same as the genuine. Generally if its an Australian bricks and motor business selling on ebay it should be pretty safe.
You forgot how shit the brakes are and how quick they fade with heavy braking which I just can’t understand what ford was doing, Im a holden man but the Barra is a quick car why would ford not at least have some big front rotors like the ssv redline, not as heavy in the front I know but come on at least have it on the G6E range.
And a electronically adjustable drivers seat......... Aussie Luxury is definitely a little more simplistic than European. But hey that's less to go wrong....

Lol 👍. Yeah i know its sad that they are no longer made as i love the cars so much. I've liked them that much I've owned 6, but the g6et stands out from all the others with its aggressive, yet simple styling and the 270kw barra beast under the hood to which is now running 507rwkw and will plant you head in the back seat when you punt your foot through the fire wall, lol.
We didnt mind the seating position for cruising around, would have its floors for enthusiastic driving. Couldn't agree more about the brakes and stock suspension.
