Ford GT40 PURE V8 Engine Sound!

It's pretty funny, whenever a GT40 of whatever version is show, to read the "Ferrari killer", "Ferrari slayer" etc. remarks, while none, when a 330P, a 275LM, or a 275GTB is shown, comments "Ford slayer" or "Carol Shelby's worst Nightmare". It's hardly comprehensible how a big conglomerate managing to win a race vs a semi-artigianal manufacurer, by spending something like ten times his budget, can cause so much chest banging.

Well considering that Ferrari already had the keys to the city technology wise and was at the top of the game, it makes sense for a smaller company having to spend more money to catch up to compete, which is exactly what they did, and the GT40’s performed as they should, as a top notch race car that was able to compete and unseat the reigning champion. You see the same thing happening all over the racing circuit this day and age. The difference being that smaller companies don’t have the money necessary to compete with the larger companies as technology has advanced ten fold and become just as expensive. That’s not to say at all that the Ferrari’s of the time weren’t top notch race cars, because they were, and still are.

"A smaller company"? Ford? At that time Ferrari run the Sport Prototype series on a so strict budget that they had to reuse the previous year's frames modifying them to the new specs.

@ Like Ferrari did 1st, 2nd and 3rd in 1964 and 1965 while none of the GT40 arrived to the finish line. Then Ford arrived 1st and 4th in 1967 while Ferrari did 2nd and 3rd (that's what I would call a narrow win). THEN a rule change banned the Ferrari P-cars and Ford raced alone in 1968 and 1969. GT40 has a lovely tune but the Sauber Mercedes C11 sounds like it gargles GT40s for lunch.

Brits made a chassis, bodywork, aerodynamics, handling, balance, setup, steering, material selection and full assembly, including all tests and settings. Simply all those aspects which make a great car great were made in the UK. Only component which was American was the engine.

All of the GT40s had four lights. You can tell the difference between the Mk. I and Mk. II because the Mk. 2 has more air intakes on the side of the car towards the rear. There was a GT40 Mk. II without the periscope style air intakes, and the car you might be referring to is a 1967 GT40 Mk. II B. I hope this helps
