I just want to say thank you! You saved me $300 getting a new housing. I ended up screwing the housing to a price of wood then heating up the exterior of the housing and putting water inside the valve and with the air hammer eventually came out. Thank you.
This video saved me buying an expensive removal tool. My truck is at 170K miles, and it's the second time the EGR went bad. The first time it was under warranty and the dealer destroyed the inlet trying to get it out. I saw the video and figured I'd give it a try. I used PB blaster for my penetrant, no heat. I got the EGR out with no damage to the housing and was fairly easy. THANKS!
Larry Reece I have a 08 6.4, white smoke is coming out my exhaust do you know what the problem could be? It started smoking after the cleaning exhaust filter light turned off.
Very good video, and I can vouch that it does work. I heated the housing first, around 200 deg, then used the air chisel, working from one side to the other and it came out with about 5 minutes of hammering. I bolted my housing to a wooden work bench rather than use a vice.
Your right on the money, it took me about 10 minutes to remove. Went to Harbor Freight and bought a Air Chisle $15......The dealer at Sawgrass Ford Sunrise Florida quoted me $1257.00....... Purchased an EGR on line $164.00 Free shipping .You saved me $1078.00.......Pricless.......
great video dude! i love the PSD engine and duramax(i work for Gm as stated before) and i do work on quite a few 6.0's and 7.3's, i've only done minor stuff on a 6.4 nothing to deep yet... but i know it's coming! keep the vid's coming dude ill keep hitting like and posting comments!
Thanks dude I think you are my biggest fan. You really like the diesel videos huh? Yeah the 6.4l is a beast of a truck to work on, seems every time I work on one its a big job. For a few months there I was raising cabs and doing high pressure pumps every week.
ye well i like me fords, and 6.4's are a poorly designed engine if you ask me, but my god that dual turbo set up(not twin...) is insane, but i would buy a 6.7 before a 6.4 to man emission issues (front cover's, ring failure's ect...)
I dot even bother trying to take the valve out. The tool costs more than the valve housing. I just pull the housing along with the throttle body then separate the valve housing from the throttle body to put on the new housing then replace the unit back in the truck.
Instead of going through all this trouble just replace the EGR intake elbow that is frozen into and your done. The elbow isn't even that much money (Half the price of the egr) and your done. Problem solved, situation avoided. I do it all the time on bigger 6cyl navistar motors.
When changing to a new Egr valve only one pipe for coolant need to reroute hoses...when you have a chance in the future, please make a new video... very limited on you tube on that issue...
So question the EGR you took out was most likely the original it has two ports coming off of it every EGR valve I’m seeing parts stores Ford OE or any other brand only has one port would you by chance have a part number for the to port
I just replaced my EGR intake housing today without removing or loosening the vertical EGR cooler. I just ended up flexing that little silicone hose out of the way. What method do you use to replace the housings?
Great Video. Very useful. Great idea with the chisel hammer. Regarding a different issue, I have a2012 F-350 with a radiator leak (front driver's side, bottom of radiator). Can't afford $1,700 from the dealer. Any suggestions?
I have a 2008 Ford power stroke 64, I have deleted the DPF and cat also turned off the EGR. I was told I would get 20 mpg but I'm actually getting 13.5 MPG any suggestions?
David Byrd It is all in the tune I would suggest contacting the company that sold you the tuner. These trucks will never get good mileage it seems but I would think you would be closer to the mid to high teens though depending how you drive it.
I just talked with gearbox Z and they told me that basically I was lying to them about 13.5 miles to the gallon but when you do the math how many miles you drive divided by gallons used equals average muiles per gallon so talking to the people about the tuner from is obviouslyA waste of time do you have any other suggestions?
David, what tuner did you use? Did you get a custom tune? I was in a similar situation, and there's answers. This was 2 years ago, but didn't see the comment until now. I might be able to help. I have looked into this issue before because I had a similar issue due to Ford update to my system, which ended up screwing me, bad. I know what to look for, and what potential problems are.
