I have a '08 6.4 Super duty with 138,000 original Kms I watch all these videos in the hopes that I can stay ahead of "break down" curve as long as I can. Particularly the oil/coolant/maintenance videos. I love the truck and sure appreciate these very informative videos. What a smart man Ron was, RIP.
I was warned not to buy a 6.4L Ron was the best at giving all the reasons not to buy my 2008 250. Had I seen any on Ron's videos prior to my purchase. The truck would still be mine, thinking I could fix it. Great mechanic and easy to converse with. Ron was a rare breed. I never got to meet this man, but I will miss him. Reminded me of my own father. Just a heck of nice guy, and friend to everyone.
May God bless this great mans soul !! Such an honorable, humble soul he was , going so above and beyond just to help us mechanics and owners with our trucks all for free
Great job Ron!! I did 23 years as a Toyota tech., I also have kids in college. Thank you for taking the time & patience to make these videos! Happy Fathers Day!
This has been the most useful tech video I've seen, the detail is spot on. I'm sure this will save me a major headache should I break something while trying to fix another. The details on what to expect will keep me aware of all that needs to be done while lifting the cab to repair the up pipe flange leaks at the turbo. Sorry for our loss, Ron is the most amazing mechanic I've seen.
Kind of late sorry about the family's loss, this video has taught me so much in a few minutes and will remember forever ! Thank you Ron God bless and peace to your family.
So sorry about DieselTechRon, may he RIP. I just used this video to replace my turbo and down pipes. This video told the whole story, no misleading, no problems. Thank you Ron wherever you are. You will be missed.
Helpful. Pulling the turbos was waaaay easier than I expected before watching the video. Be very careful with the 10mm uppipe bolts in the back of the turbo, they break without much torque.
This man saved ALL of us tons of time and money. If you are a Tech and you do this for a living well then face it HE Saved you time and you made money because of that. Donate to his family! They have lost a father, husband and provider. We cant bring him back but we can help the family. Pay that Karma back, pay it forward. Someday your family might need help. You can find the donation tab in DieselTechRons last video.
I really appreciate the way you work, very clean and professional. Also the videos are very clear and easy to understand. Thank you very much and keep sharing your knowledge with us
Thanks for another great video. I did this job about 2 years ago and I wish I had this video then. I did it without raising the body and it was a bear to get those crossover tubes. I just scheduled another one and I am definitely doing it this way. Great job
I'm really impressed at how organized you are and how you can video while working.....WOW! We have a 2010 F350 6.4L diesel with what we've been told is a fuel problem. We're looking for a qualified mechanic to check it out because we're scared of the cost of the local Ford shop. It's a matter of time and we'll have to bit-the-bullet and get it into the shop. We were told it had gasoline put into the diesel. It had "one" turbo replaced a month or so before it quit running. I appreciate watching your videos as it gives me respect for what a mechanic must do to get the job done. Thanks!
It won't start now? may need a pump all the way to the whole system such as injectors, frame mounted pump, cleaned and a few lines. if it has metal contamination.
+DieselTechRon Thank you for your rapid reply. No, it won't start but will turn over. The gas tank, lines have been cleaned and filters replaced. The mechanic who cleaned it was not a diesel mechanic but thought it was the high pressure pump. My concern is that it doesn't show a code for a failure according to the mechanic. Once with a qualified diesel mechanic I think we'll find the problem/solution. It has 175K miles so it's not like it was ridden hard. It's sat for 2 years now. Not good, I know. We just moved and are low on funds so I can't just shell out a lot of money, which it will probably take. Hard to make payments on a retired salary.
Great video as usual. I curse working on these with to hands not trying to focus a phone for video. Not sure how you do it and make it look so easy but I'm greatful. Hope you're having a great weekend, thanks Ron
I didnt know Mr Ron passed on to eternal life. I'll miss your detailed video's that you haven't made but will treasure all these. Would have like to thank you but I'll do better an pray Gods peace on your family. Ty Jesus 4 Ron the Diesel Genius .
Still praying for your family brotha. This is majorstockton on my better half’s phone. Still learning from your video’s, I’d be lost with out them. I ask the Lord’s peace cover your better half, an your children=or ur personal blessings from God. Praise the name Jesus. An ty for the poor mans blessing DieseltechRon! Amen
That pipe threader tool trick oh my goodness I love it, I did head gaskets and EGR bypass at different times on my King ranch, as a Chevy mechanic I wish I would have known the pipe trick before taking apart half of my interior to get to the bolts that didn't want to turn
@@dylanreaves5701 they used some stock threader in the tool possibly 1/2, and they welded a long 1/2 extension inside of it. For the front core support I still have a special wrench bent just right to reach the caged nut
so glad i have a 5.9 cummins it was less work to swap my long block than it was for this turbo swap lol no body lifting needed. RIP Ron one of the best diesel techs there was
I really appreciate your videos they've helped me out a lot!!Really like your Extreme Green service cart and box too! Maybe you could do a toolbox tour sometime?..I know your a busy guy,but that would be awesome!
thank you again for this infos. priceless for techs like me learning. by the way u should get a boot for your 2763. i abuse mine daily for 2 years now. like new when u remove the boot. obviously the boot is little torn. it was less then 20$ i believe on ebay
thank you for the videos they have been very helpful i just bought a 08 super duty with 6.4 your videos gave me alot of insight to making my choice to buy it and can u send some of that nice Arizona weather to Michigan we really need it lol . again thank you for the videos
Thank you thank you thank you... 11:00; The new, brand name six point socket and harbor freight ratchet have made every difference in the world for pulling the turbo/exhaust bolts. You are greatly missed but still massively appreciated
And some people complain that taking the turbo's out on the 6.0 are bad. The 6.4 turbo removal looks a lot worse than the 6.0, but if you look how Ron is doing it here , it still requires time, but his method does make sense considering how buried the turbo is. People say why did Ford do this and make it so difficult, but you have to remember that both Ford and Navistar have some culpability there in the design. Ford learned a lot from the 6.0 and 6.4's and it shows in the design of the 6.7's. Ford made some of the items that were difficult to get to and replace a lot easier to do on the 6.7's. Ron out of curiosity how long does it take to swap out the turbo on the 6.7''s?
When you look at the cost of the bulletproof kit that you need to actually make it last. Is it really worth it to try to make power with a 6.4. You could get a duramax or a cummins.
@@BaronVonPwn That's what I keep saying.....The body on 08-10 gen will never be matched so far nothing compares even 2024. So far is the most beautiful body design Ford has ever put out. If you love the truck don't ever get rid of it. Bulletproof is the way.
I'm in the process of changing the turbo out on my 2008 f 350 super duty 6.4 l diesel. I am at the point where I'm trying to lift the body to allow for more space to work on the turbocharger. I have the bolts removed from the frame to the body but when I jacked up the body at the radiator support the frame comes with it. I was looking around to try to determine what is keeping the body stuck to the frame and I noticed that the radiator fan is inside the radiator cowling and there's only about a half inch clearance. How do I raise the body without damaging the fan cowling or damaging the fan?
Hey Ron thanks for all the videos I watch yours and bill Hewitts from powerstroke help I got a question about my truck I can't find where anybody else is having this issue and was wondering if you've heard of it I have a 03 f250 with the 6.0 it only has 18,000 miles on it I've done the egr delete and I use the ford filters but I'm having a issue with my hot starts it starts but its kinda sluggish acting like its starving for something but when its cold it fires right up any suggestions would be appreciated thanks
Ideas ? Please Air was blowing out the Actuator arm. I changed the turbo, air still blows out the actuator arm that goes into the Turbo. Are there any other reasons for that besides the actuator arm itself in the turbo? like clogged exhaust or something else ? deleted, CAN emptied, etc. 2008 6.4 192,000 thanks
hi,,,, I have installed a new high-pressure turbo cartridge to my 6.4L but the oil still coming to the air cooler and exhaust too, also the blow by pressure increased in the oil fill up can , could you please explain to me what is going on?
I bought my 2008 f250 11 months ago, I purchased the extended warranty and had no problems until 2000 miles after my warranty ended, it started throwing a P0088 , I thought ok I'll have the hpfp replaceed,... I was unaware the cost and completely shocked that ford would put its name on something so costly to repair when it's only function is to extend the life of the lift pump in the fuel tank which in comparison is relatively inexpensive to replace, just how many f250 owners have an extra 10k laying around ? I sure dont, unbelievable, now I have a pile of junk that I can't make a living with.
so far, we have just taken body bolts out and jacked up cab, but only get about 2". If we could get 4" would be great, hopefully don't have to disconnect all that stuff. We did change the turbo, was very difficult without more room.
Great vid. What a pain in the ass of a job. Thats why mechanics get the bucks . My face would of been smashed im sure. Hands and knuckles too of course ! Did the up pipe in my 7.3 That was fun. NOT ! Cheers.
+DieselTechRon Hey!! Dieseltechron I purchased a used 2014 ford f350 with the 6.7 *(33,000 miles) and when I insert the key there is a popping noise under the hood. any guess on what it could be, thanks.
did you bleed the fuel system after removing those fuel lines? I just replaced my up-pipes with out lifting the cab and oh my what a pain. Not sure if i need to bleed the fuel system tho.
+DieselTechRon okay I have a FASS fuel pump so hopefully that will help get the air out. This video was very help full replacing my up pipes! Thank you so much!
Hey Ron Big fan, I got a 2006 6.0 love my truck got it with 130K and put another 90K in 2 yrs. It was loosing coolant and couldn't figure it out. Until I saw some of your videos. Before I could get it to start, it just wouldn't start, I figured it was my stc HPOP fitting. I went ahead and did EGR cooler, dummy plug, ICP sensor and STC fitting. It will crank but no start. I live in a remote area and it's a problem to get someone with a scanner to come out here. I'm think it hydro lock on me. I couldn't find a video on your site to help me look for solid evidence of hydro lock. Please help what and where should I start looking. Thanks for helpful video you have provided in past.
I work on a lot of these does it start with starting fluid if so sounds like the high pressure pump and or bad injector/s that or the plug on the ecu failed happens more than u think. Diesels r easy all they need is air ,fuel , compression if u have these u run in the most simplest form
Damn, this looks like a pain. I just got rid of my 6.0 powerstroke for a 6.7 cummins. so much easier to work on. Mainly because it doesn't break down. RIP Ron
you the man ron, i always wondered if this be worse then a duramax, and a duramax is worse still, modren diesels are not Tech friendly. holy fuck look at the drain tube its caked right up. thats just retarded i feel bad for the guy who owns that truck, rocker arms, piston rings are in his future
some make noise at first. a rattle or squeak. at this point it is a lack of power just from the blockage. The oil being pumped through caused very frequent almost constant regens. but be aware. air filters also cause constant regens.
I have an 08, 6.4 You're better off just removing the truck from your life. This truck has been the worst vehicle I've ever owned. Because of all the trouble I've had, I'll never buy another Ford. 25 years of owning Fords. Never again.
6.7 is a good engine. get one 2013 or newer though. Ford has gotten back in the diesel game after many tough years. They all have emission system problems, but if you live in an area where you can delete that stuff it will be way more reliable.
hello Ron. good to know. I also like to send you a donation. I think that is the only way I can say thank you enough. please contact me privately or let me know that best way to contact you privately to send you a money order. thank you son much for your RU-vid.
Thank you Victor. I have a donate button on my website DieseltechRon.com. I really appreciate it. I answer dozens and dozens of questions a day for free. It's nice to rewarded. Thank you.
