As United Auto Workers union employees end a day's work at the Ford Rouge Center in Dearborn, they’re leaving with uncertainty as negotiations between the company and their union hang in the balance.
4 straight concessionary contracts to help our companies make over a quarter of a trillion dollars. They had no problems giving themselves a 46% raise. Yet we're the bad union
@@kevinulises9783 you clearly need to read about the history of auto workers wages and how they affect ALL of manufacturing There are far more than just one factor that determines wages. Your statement lacks depth
@@kevinulises9783Your lawnmower analogy doesn't fit the context that you're comparing it to. UAW workers are doing the work that makes the company wealthy. So to make your analogy fit it would be like me going outside to not only help that kid mow my own lawn, but also do MOST of the work then pay him as if he did ALL of the work by himself..Think about it.
@@tonyorob the analogy was in regards of their wage, UAW workers are unskilled, inefficient and low performing workers who want a big fat pay check with the least amount of effort required.
If you legacy worker's had a backbone you would have voted no on the last 2 contracts like me. Took almost 9 years to reach full pay and didn't qualify for the 5% and 3% lump sum payments. But now we supposed to be united 😂😂😂
Yea I agree 100 percent, I was ready to go on a long strike but somehow the last 2 contracts passed 51-49. The only thing I can tell you about legacy workers is will be in charge of their contracts when they retire.
American CEO pay has risen by 1,322% since 1978. The wages of the typical worker rose by 18% in that same time period. Meanwhile inflation went up THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-EIGHT PERCENT since 1978. Translation: the rich have been getting enormously richer, and working people are now trying to live on effectively one quarter of what we used to make. We're being squeezed to the point of bankruptcy or starvation. A future for our children is just a hopeless dream, now. But keep telling us that a 46% pay raise for the people who actually MAKE the cars is "unreasonable"
Why should my workers make what I make or anywhere near it? I'm the one to build my company. They get extremely fair wage for the little screw. They put in a whole all day long. Skilled trade stops after the first fifteen minutes
@@dougalsip556 I run my own business, and am profitable, and pay my designers well. Nothing short of $40 an hour, and sometimes higher than that. If you have strenuous overhead, and can’t pay your labor force reasonably what are you doing in business anyways? We’re headed into a recession; liquidating some of your assets/overhead would help with that. Not rocket science bud; other companies do that as well. Just easier to regulate cheap labor to continue netting a high profit. That’s why they call it lucrative pal!
No, they're not. Salaried workers are not members of the UAW. They're the opposite of Union members. They're who the UAW protects workers from on a daily basis. AND they're not "on the line". The story mentions the parts distribution centers. It's not the same. Actually, that is something that is a world apart from building a vehicle.
@@mont1994 , they may not complain much because they have no protection from being fired for no reason at all. No! They won't be able to build a vehicle. It takes a lot of people to build a car/truck. The people on the line are very busy doing their jobs. There are people bringing the parts that are used to build the cars. There are people who unload the semi-trailers. There are people who move the trailers from staging areas to the loading docks. There are skilled trades people who repair the machines that break. There are many more jobs inside the plant that all have salaried supervisors. Being a supervisor does not mean they are qualified to do our jobs.
Thats what they said when we were shipping parts for covid. Were just sending out parts to keep emergency veichles going and they ended up being regular work days
Vehicle prices are high because of corporate greed. Labor accounts for 3% to 5% of a vehicle wholesale cost. The dealer buys wholesale from the manufacturer (big 3), Then, the dealership raises the price again prior to selling Them to the consumer. Greedy!😢

They promise you the world, and then they give you pennies. While the self-employed, non-union guys are living large. I pay some of my guys way more than any Union can ever afford pay. Thanks for putting your words in my mouth. Typical useless union shill. I have a neighbor who was in the UAW and is now retired and he never stops talking about his career and the constant corruption and special favors as a way of life in the auto unions. Look around when you drive and you might see how everyone now drives a car made by a foreign company, mostly asian and mostly all made in NA in a plant without a union. I guess all those people who drive japanese cars hate humanity. With the brain you have you need a union because you would not get a decent paying job anywhere else.@@nicstone3141
They never goin be able to replace even a portion of workers with todays new work force. You can’t hire fifty workers that will work with no one to train them in a month or more
Unfortunately you're wrong you see how many illegals are pouring into our country? Alot of those are cheap labor workers these companies know this they will gladly watch the unions fall apart then fill their factories with people that will work for 10$ an hour
Could you imagine them trying to do engine set/ assist lmao, axle set/ assist, gas tanks etc etc.. Hell, any of the jobs in Chassis in general. I’d pay to watch that seriously, a live stream would be golden lolol
Yeah Good luck Management. If it wasn’t for the hourly workers going above and beyond to do their jobs NO assembly plant would ever run. Especially if we followed what management asked us to do. They couldn’t manage their way out of a wet paper bag.
Would hate to be one of the unlucky ones who purchase a vehicle built by management lol. They do everything ass backwards are are more concerned which restroom fits their gender
@@Rscmgw23 Management wants numbers over quality all the QC and recall issues stem from bad management improperly organizing labor or forcing them to send shit out the door threatening them with a write up.
They tried that at my plant (Magna) where the office came out and ran machinery and they lasted 2 days! Ha what a joke! Now they think it’s funny to understaff us and still meet numbers for Lansing! We’re all about to fall over from 7 days 12 hours. 😡
The auto companies are cutting their customers throats with high prices, $80,000.00 F150 trucks! The UAW is just going to have to get some BALLS and cut the auto company's throats. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
I don't really blame auto makers for going to Mexico. Why pay 32 dollars an hour union wages when you can get workers in Mexico for 5 dollars an hour????
That’s cute Ford! You can’t even get people to want to work there with your McDonald’s wages, now you think your salaried are going to? Keep it up and you’re telling the employees like myself that you don’t want us buying your products and if you do pull this nonsense, I’ll take the hint and accommodate your wishes and never buy a Ford again!
When the strike budget runs out and they stop getting that 500 a week watch how fast they go back to work. Unions kill companies. I say let them strike and just don’t bargain with them and hire other people that will work. It’s that simple.
Who in the world gets a 46% increase and paid for a 40 hour work week only working 32 hours. Remember the air traffic controller strike, lets go two for two.
I'm not saying they shouldn't get something, but you know who's going to pay for what they want is the consumer. I can't afford their vehicles now. 70- 100 thousand dollars for a truck insane. You raise Burger King minimum wage to 15 dollars now my hamburger meal cost 11.00
Suprise, Don't forget those GMCH are making as much as that Burger King worker too, Because of the greed. It's way past the time to get rid of the tiers and eliminate GMCH and CCA language in the GM contract and have 1 GM inclusive contract.
The prices are because of corporate greed. Labor accounts for 3% to 5% of a vehicle wholesale cost. The dealer buys wholesale from the manufacturer (big 3), Then, the dealership raises the price again prior to selling Them to the consumer. Greedy!😢
UAW Boomers near retirement age in 2008 agreed to cut the wages and benefits of all future employees instead of taking a pay cut, this is what created the two-tier wage system. Now that the number of post 2008 hires outnumbers the greedy boomers, the workers are tired of this unfairness. Imagine getting paid 1/2 of what your coworker makes for the same exact work, plus no health benefit? Not to mention so much work is being done by "part timers" who actually work full time but get paid nearly minimum wage and no health or retirement plan. Only the Pre-2008 hires get all those fat juicy benefits you hear about.
@bradking2667 I hired in, in 2006 at roughly half scale. The UAW in our plant told us that we would be brought up to full wages in the 2007 agreement... guess what? They decided not to do that. We (about 30 of us) were the first group to never become "1st tier". I'm so glad I got out of there. The plant workers have lost so much over the years, while the CEOs make millions every year. I hope the workers get something back on this contract.
They can't replace the workers. This job isn't for everyone. New hires quit the first week of being on the line. People talk crap about uaw workers. I would love to see what those haters do for a living
I was born and raised a Union person but 46% seems steep at best. Most Unions settle for less than 10%. Would I like to get a 46% raise....hell yes. Would I purchase a new vehicle when prices skyrocket....hell no!
@@grumpycricket I wasn't talking to you. I am a UAW member Dingus.... my comment was for the original post..... 46% is not that much because of inflation.... How did you not get that?
40 hour pay for 32 hours of work with a double digit increase in yearly salary is stupid. Most of these workers barely have a GED. I hope all three manufacturers higher employees off seas and replaces all these workers.
Yeah I work at a Stellantis plant in Michigan. They literally went blue in the face for weeks about a strike. Today comes, no strike. So pretty hilarious how hypocritical these people are.
I’m all for what you guys are fighting for but the 32 hour work week with 40 hours pay is complete bologna. That’s just taking it too far. I was a temp for an auto supplier for almost 2 years so I know how it feels but you know what I did after I got sick of it and didn’t get fully hired on? I left and found a much better job with my experience.
We can tell where the companies’ priorities are. They clearly think so little of the workers who make them the record profits that they boast about. I’d love to see these CEOs try and run these lines. Chasing cars up and down the line trying to make the builds. Maybe once they’ve developed the same back, hip, shoulder & elbow issues that the workers suffer through, maybe they’d have a new perspective? Wishful thinking on my part.
All three need new management from the top down, management has been the issue for the past 50 years. The union needs to approch the board of directors and demand it.
Temps working for 10 years. Anyone who crosses the picket line is screwing themselves. The Company folks need to work the line to see how things need to get done. It will truly bring a better understanding.
Report on the shaft that's being offered in 2023 to the GMCH workers at component holding facilities that are covered under separate language in the same UAW contract with GM. Report on how the remaining GMCH facilities voted and rejected the 2019 contract because it did not meet our economic needs but yet it was passed by assembly and shoved down our throats, and here we are with a offer from GM that's worse than the last 4 years.
Thank you god we have unions other wise we would be payed slave wages. We need to stay strong and get back to the way our brothers and sisters work so hard to get when they formed the unions. Fare treatment, a voice, protection from unfair treatment from companies, and a way to raise a family on a good pay check.
The CORPORATE Clowns Gonna Be Real Upset When Their Gravy Train Comes To A Screeching Halt!!!! STAY STRONG UAW BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!!💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
The 32 hour work week demand is rather dumb, it would require Ford, to remain as physically productive to hire more workers to fill those hours and put them under pressure to pay those new employees the UAW demanded wages. Everything else, I don't know, good luck.
If you look online you can find wha they make. Ford or gm It ranges from $29,$40 a hr. Thats 60k to 83k a yr with no overtime That’s a lot And if they work 60 to 70 hrs say a week They’re making well over 100k a yr If they just work 20hr each week overtime They make around 104k to. 120k a year 😂 if not more
They want workers to compete with workers in other countries. You know the places that have dirt floors and thatch roofs. If you can afford a old house with asbestos tile floors and lead painted walls your making too much.
I commend The auto Workers, men and women who are willing to stand up for their rights. I salute each and one of you in you're stand for justice and equality!
@@samiam830 Its alright they feel they deserve more and with the way the auto industry has jacked up the prices for the average car then the ones who build them should get their cut as well. They are the backbone of America! Just an opinion
Well is this a sign of the end of the big 3? I mean I get it the workers deserve better. But it’s getting to a point where no one will be able to afford a vehicle or anything else for that matter. These companies can’t survive on just the rich people.
Don't worry the Government will bail them out with more printed money and then go all EV, This is the plan, you will own nothing a be happy, soon we'll all be driving old junk vehicle's if we can afford the gas, Or, electric vehicle's if the grid doesn't fail because of the load.
Labor is less than 5% of a vehicle's cost. They were happy to raise vehicle prices 20%+ in the last few years. And they were happy to not share that with labor.
Do my job for 10.7 hours Tues - Fri let’s see how long you last standing on hard concrete ALL NIGHT WALKING !!!! There’s a reason we had to take a 8 hour test to get hired!
Every contract that UAW signs expire. Thus, begins new negotiations for updated terms and what was considered fair four years ago has changed due to inflation and various other factors...You ask about the other factors of the automobile building supplychain as if UAW members don't consider them as thr important factors that they are. Fairly balanced profit distibrution to UAW members don't equate to inadequte funding for the purchase, facilitation and management of the resources you mentioned; key word being 'fair'.
Brings me back to when I worked for dematic Corp when we striked yrs ago..management told us a monkey could do our job...and they took their shot at it and missed!!😂😂😂
Our point exactly, and there are hungry people willing to eat your discarded food from a dumpster but we shouldn’t be OK with that nor should we advocate that all should be eating from the dumpster.
Little do you now that Mexico is a socialist paradise. The big three will face more union pressure there then here within 5 years tops. Ask the US oil companies.

You have a responsibility to take care of the people that make them idiots. But how is the UAW the largest share holder in all three or one of the big three? That seems sus
Replace your entire work force…. Fire the UAW. As an owner of a business, you have the right to set your own terms, if people dont like it they can find another job. The big 3 top out is over national average already …..
People can't afford this over priced inventory now. So how do you think added labor costs will help? Don't play the inflation card. Your union voted for this catastrophe.

Lets face it, if these auto workers did not have these high paying jobs they would be working at Kroger for$10. It's important to help your employer succeed. Buy stock if you want a bigger piece of pie!
I don’t think people are really capable to do what needs to be done. This is just a game the reset that is required would be almost every worker to stop working and maybe after a year, then things could be renegotiated, but even the stroke is just a game of Trying to ask nicely you have to make it to where the people that are deciding what you will receive are impacted by what you won’t do I don’t think these people are willing to go that far. These companies are prepared for a strike longer than what the workers are willing to strike for.
I would laugh my butt off if the big 3 got in cahoots with the migrant crisis and put all the Union workers out of work gave the new citizens a good job with no Union.
If you are in the UAW and voted for Biden than you should not be complaining about inflation and the cost of living. You voted unwise. All others, i feel for you. We are all struggling but think of the average American and the price of the cars in negotiations.
Trump caused inflation just as much as the next guy. Corporate greed is what’s to blame here. Ford has raised the price of their f-150 astronomically over the years, and the UAW worker has had no pay increases.
I would not cross a picket line anywhere. I remember a company called Millbank that was striking and I knew a scab there. It cost him more in damage to his vehicle going in than he made a day.
