Ford Performance, the product development team behind cars like the Ford Focus RS and Mustang, has never made a performance SUV before. The new Ford Puma ST is their first half-attempt at one, which effectively puts the 197bhp three-cylinder turbo engine and a lot of the front-drive running gear from the popular Fiesta ST into a jacked-up Puma crossover hatchback body. But there's more to this car than that, as Matt Saunders explains during our first drive along the rolling - and unexpectedly bumpy-feeling - Sussex Downs.

pretty standard practice to use b roll shots provided by the company and then interior shots by the journalist

I would guess they had two cars, and Autocar were given the left hand drive because another Mag got first dibs on the the right hand drive,or the video was shot by Ford and Autocar added there bit of video into it?, I’ve seen this in quite a few videos.🤥😎

I still struggle with the concept of a 'hot' Puma ST costing £30k plus and being 'good value for money'. I appreciate that most will be financed (certainly in the UK) but the headline cost still feels wrong.. or maybe I'm just getting old..

I recently paid £15.5k for a pre reg Honda Civic SR 69 plate with 25 miles on it. Yes I know the arse end isnt great but I think that's fair for a middle of the road hatch. But 30k!! Really?

Love the look of this puma st , I've ordered a brand new puma st in mean green be ready about sept/Oct , this to me is one car that does all, plenty room for my kids, room for camping gear an mountain bike in back and good for daily driving and a bit of spirited driving now and again, love the quirky Kermit frog looks from front too lol, can't wait get mine in a few months time 💚👌👍

Great looking car, especially in this green. If you didn't need 4 seats surely a GR Yaris would be a better choice? (Actually, GR Yaris is generally the answer to everything at the moment!)

I own 1 with performance pack,, good package but does have downsides Bit to hard for uk rubbish rds, gearbox feels snatchy till warmed up, can’t suffer with battery’s and steering rack failures Fully agree with this guys review of the steering can be hard work

Your giving a review in what appears to be a LHD, yet showing external shots of a RHD... ? The car seems to be a total mismatch of parts from inventory stock. Have Ford managed to make a "Frankenstein" version of something that's between an SUV- Crossover & family hatchback ?...:)

Ford want too much for it. Even the fiesta is getting an expensive car. ST2 should be 18/19 grand tops 👍

My sentiments exactly, I’ve noticed the fiesta is getting out of the ordinary guys reach in the last few years, back in my day most young guys with half a decent job could buy an XR2, which is why they were everywhere.

Great explanation of how driving the Puma ST relates to taking a dog for a walk. Identical to the Fiesta ST. Hopefully Ford will do something similar as with the Fiesta Edition and fit KW v3 coilovers or at least an upgrade option.

I have a 20 reg 1.0 eco boost 138 bhp fiesta and altho I have it on pcp deal the list price from dealer was 18k to pay 30k or over for what is a fiesta with a big hole in the boot is insane and the colour Deff not

We don't have the puma in the usa but is ford starting to go to only suvs in Europe too ford literally isn't making cars sedans or hatchbacks in North America but for Europe its a bit of a questionable thing due to your smaller roads 🤔

So its a fiesta with a higher centre of gravity, wheels that are too big for it to work dynamically yet its £7000 more. Who in their right mind would buy the puma ST over the fiesta ST? Just. Seems like a gimmicky car to me.

Listening to him talking in the first minutes and already I’m thinking I wouldn’t be able to live with it - you can hear the harshness in the suspension in his voice wobbling around, that’s way to stiff, especially in a supposed crossover
