Join me in a how to video on a 98 Ranger 2WD coil type front suspension. In this video we replace the Rack and Pinion Steering unit, Upper and Lower Control Arms, Shocks, and Sway Bar end links.
You did a helluva job! I also made the mistake of not installing the camber kit when putting everything back together. Alignment shop wanted $300 to install the camber kit and alignment...Negative! I went ahead and installed the camber kit myself and paid $70 for the alignment. Now my truck (2003 Mazda B3000 DS) rides like a 70's Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
I have just completed a pretty thorough rebuild of my 2002 Ford Ranger Edge. All 4 ball joints (waaaaay past worn out), 4 shocks, new calipers, rotors, pads, outer tie rods. Original owner put in over 100,000 miles on very rough roads, and it took a toll. In shocking contrast, the body, of the truck, the engine, and interior are in FANTASTIC shape. I have spent many hours watching front end videos before I did all the work. I appreciate your video...it was among the ones I watched.
Thx for the video, inspired me to take care of my ‘99 RWD Ranger. Replaced inner/outer tie rods, upper control arms, upper and lower ball joints, sway bar links and all 4 shocks. What an improvement. Ready for another 250k miles!
Daniel Garner their certainly great trucks. My son Daniel drives 100 miles a day to and from in this same truck. Thinking it will easily make it to 300,000 miles. At least I hope. Thanks for commenting
thanks boss. thanks for informing us on the alignment cams at the shop as well, since i forgot to order them, ill make sure to try and clean them up before she goes for the align.
Thank you!! On my second ranger now 01 2wd 2.3l... Not much but when the right love n care is applied they will go long way.. Thank you doing my first front end replacement this weekend. Will be watching this ALOT
wow you guys most not get alot of salt where you are , most older rangers here in ontario end up complete rot outs if the original owner hadn't rust proof at purchase. Very clean underbody!!
Get the tool from your local parts store to take the ball joint separator to take the ball joint out so much easier and you can rent it and take it back well you put a deposit down and then they give you your money back a lot easier than being and then you can press it back into Plus put your ball joint in the freezer the night before leave it all night when you go to put your new it in heat up the area and it'll go right in flush
I just want to thank you for your immense heart GOD gave you to share with us all this knowledge and help people like me I have the driver side ready to be rebuild it just tell me did you buy all the parts new or some from junk yard.thank you
Great video, THANKS! (subscribed) I also have the 1998 Ranger (USA) 178K and 4 ball joints on order. PS is leaking a little but will tackle another time ($$ short). Wish I could swing a sledge as fast as you. *_8)_*
Great trucks. This was my sons truck (Daniel). He wrecked it early this year. To bad cause it too drove great, super reliable and good on gas. Thanks for commenting.
I plan on doing a partial overhaul, replacing both upper control arms and inner tie rod ends then do an alignment. later on I plan to do the lower control arms. will that throw off the alignment in this particular application?
Hello and thank you for awesome video. Im going to change my lower control arm driver side on my B3000 rwd standard. I already got the new arm, after removing shock lower nuts and upper nuts, how do you take the shock out !!! because the spring is still there. also do i need a shock compressor to do this or just using a jack will do !!!! thanks again.
Which engine does this truck have? My 3.0 has shot lca's, and on the passenger side, the catalytic converter blocks access to the bolt... Did you have to do anything to get that out of the way?
therangerstation.com has a couple lists on parts interchangeably. Most of the 2WD of that style should interchange. Also, check out LMCtruck.com for visual representation of parts as well as model changes.
Nicholas letner - rockauto.com sells kits. I’m not a fan thought. Pricing not any better and low quality choice of parts. Choose Moog problem solver or Ford OEM parts.
Media Junkie thanks a bunch. Now that I looked these things up, this could be the source of my problem... my rack looks fine, boots ok, no overt leaks, pump seems to be running ok, fairly quiet, but there's a pretty bad whine when turning the wheels, and sometimes even gets sluggish whilst making turns, requiring some compensation. the fluid was really dark and burnt but changing it out didn't seem to help much. i almost want to say its that presure switch but I don't have an error code
