El Paso Police, El Paso Fire and Rescue, El Paso Fire Hazmat Response Teams along with El Paso Police STI responded to the fatal crash. The crash occurred at the intersection of Gateway Blvd North and Kenworthy St. The crash caused the tanker to leak fuel along Kenworthy St prompting a Hazardous Materials Response call. Both victims were pinned under the semi-truck after the high-speed crash. According to a source, the driver was killed, and the passenger was transported in serious condition. It took nearly 3 hours to free the passenger from the truck. The intersection remains closed at this time while the investigation continues. No further information is available at this time.

The other day I had a woman get angry with me because I stated that I hope an officer that responded to a crash where two people had died had a strong supportive family at home. She said it wasn't about him it was about the 2 dead victims. She was wrong. Dozens of people are affected by these kinds of tragedies. The first responders, the families, and many more. It affects all of them.

Plus, if it was carrying diesel fuel, it most likely would not have burst into flames because diesel fuel is not easily ignited. In fact, you can throw a lit match into an open container of diesel fuel at room temperature and the liquid form of the diesel will put the match out.
@IndigenousAmericanTrucker
@IndigenousAmericanTrucker Год назад
The collision didn't appear to pierce the shell of the tanker. If you notice, the four-wheeler went up under the tanker and didn't go into the side. I would imagine that it was a scary scene for those responders, dealing with a hazardous material! If it was diesel, then the chances of an explosion is not likely. You can throw a lit cigarette in diesel and it will not ignite!

At about 5:30 am on July 30, investigators say 34-year-old Manuel Alejandro Gonzalez, the driver of the Ford Raptor, was speeding and ran a red light at the same time the tanker truck was turning left in the intersection. While Gonzalez died at the scene of the crash, miraculously his female passenger survived.Gonzalez died from his injuries. His passenger, Melissa Tristan, 36, of Socorro, was also injured in the collision, police said. The tanker truck driver, Esteban Rios, 51, of El Paso, was not injured.

Don't forget the wrecker drivers, they have to deal with it too. We had a girl wrecker driver that quit after she went to an accident and had to wait to tow a BMW that was t-boned by a speeding pickup truck. They had to cut the woman in the BMW's feet off they were crushed and pinched in the footwell of the car and unrecoverable. I saw the wrecker driver back at the terminal that day as she was washing lots of blood off her rollback that had leaked out of the car she towed. I remember watching the red stream of water washing into the storm drain, I bet she remembers it too.

one of my neighbors' kids had a friend who got their license, so the neighbor kid, the one with the license, and a third kid "borrowed" one of the family cars. This was before cell phones. When they, and the car, never came home, searchers started looking for them. It was almost 3 days before someone stopped to pick some berries and saw what looked like an ancient wreck down in a gully. Turns out it was the car, mangled almost beyond recognition. Neighbor's kid woke up from being knocked out, saw both his friends bleeding badly, struggled to help them, only to have the struggle result in his spine getting severed. So then he had to sit there and watch them bleed out. And then spent another 72 hours with their corpses. Very traumatizing. That was in the 1980s. He passed away shortly after Covid hit.

They have to offload any product that is in the tanker and use airbags to lift the tanker up or cranes in just the right spot not to crack the tanker open and spilling fuel. And then cut the vehicle out bit by bit around the people/or body. I've been on a bunch of these things over 40 years in the Washington DC area.

As a Fuel Tanker Driver this brings back memories as well. I've been hit twice in 11 years of truck driving. The worst was a Japanese tourist who pulled out and hit me in almost the same area, luckily he bounced off my pipes, and into me rear tires. The rear tires picked up the car and slammed it down. His car was a mess, but he didn't get hurt. My company has had 3 fatal accidents, not our fault, and one driver fatality. Tanker trucks are truly the immovable object to hit, we are very very heavy.

@sumtincrazy1, there are lots of people affected some more so than others. I remember the Police and motorists, after a 20-something yr old man was driving somewhat intoxicated driving up the wrong side of the street at night, other drivers called it in. The Officer had the man out of the car talking but then he runs around jumps back in and locks the doors, drives down an embankment and disables the vehicle, the Officer is on foot running over to the "drop" and just as he does, the man bailed from the vehicle and ran across the highway and was hit by a car. Sounded like a half full garbage can being hit. That car actually didn't stop until further up the road, another driver who saw it stopped and was screaming/crying... The driver didn't try to run but apparently through the might've hit a deer or something only to learn it was a man and he died right there.... His whole life over.... In another instance, how about a child surviving after 4 relatives, including his parents all died in a car accident. There is a lot of pain/suffering we face in this cursed world. It helps to keep one's faith in God and to reach out to help others and to rely on others for help in times of tragedy.

A lot of assumptions in in these comments, it has not yet been determined who was at fault or if anyone was speeding for all we know the tanker truck turned in front of the pickup and caused the accident and tanker trucks don't move very much when they are traveling at slow speeds and hit broadside and they sit fairly high so it does not take much to go under them, so why don't we all reserve comments until we know the facts. So did the tractor trailer truck turn in front of the pickup illegally causing the accident or did the pickup run a light and cause the accident, let's hope that the passenger survives and remembers what happened, then we will know.

@@stephenwest798 It doesn’t take much to go under a truck, which is true, however I’ve seen what a slower speed impact does to a vehicle versus something heavy. I lost my brother against a concrete filled power pole at 35 mph. However, You do the best you can to help relieve pain and suffering, to consul and reassure and of course work hard to save a life. As a professional driver, this makes me angry to know that these types of situations could be avoided if more people would exercise a little common sense. Guess that's too much to ask for from some people. And they end up paying with their lives, or the lives of other innocent people around them. As a Ford Raptor owner myself this makes me sick to my stomach to see this aftermath. Some people should not be allowed a drivers license much less to actually drive. Im sorry this persons poor judgment caused such a catastrophe. But for all that people don't seem to learn, nor care. We have to watch out overtime for not only ourselves, but the rest of our fellow drivers, these people who drive carelessly are the reason so many don't get to spend holidays with loved ones.

Excessive speed is so often the cause of these horrible wrecks. Also, tailgating. I'm NOT a fast driver. I drive with the flow, but that's not good enough for rude folks who are in too big a hurry or are trying to show off. I continually have people right on my tail, no matter how fast I drive, and I'm NOT a speeder, and I'm NOT going to driver faster than I feel safe just to accommodate THEM! Tailgaters have to be among the most selfish drivers on the road. As soon as I reach a divided section, I pull over to the right and let them pass. Before I reach a safe place to do so, I can't help it if they are impatient. I once had a semi on my tail in a snow storm where it was impossible to see the pullouts, so I couldn't get over. This rude trucker kept tooting his horn at me, and as soon as I was able to pull to the right when the roadway divided, I did so, and he darn near side-swiped me by passing too close, STILL rudely tooting his horn. And when he got out in front of me, I saw that he wasn't even pulling a trailer. He had NO load! It was a Sunday morning in January, and I was on my way to church. I was doing the best I could under the circumstances, and this guy was an absolute jerk. People seem to get ruder all the time, and on the road, their rudeness sometimes knows no boundaries.
@samsonacc8081
@samsonacc8081 4 месяца назад
@jrnfw4060 the most selfish people on the road are those who always blame others for doing what they are doing, regardless of what camp of actions they belong to. Its always someone else, sure you aren't doing anything wrong, right? I can only imagine you going down the road like a snail feeling yourself up with pleasure you get from dictating your tempo to others. Regardless, tailgating is never a good choice, only uneducated and/or unexperienced drivers are doing it, which makes things worse for you. You see, the reason why they are there is exactly the same reason why you are where you are. Also I probably wouldn't be far off thinking that you are the type of driver who speeds up when someone tries to overtake you, right?
@jrnfw4060
@jrnfw4060 4 месяца назад
@@samsonacc8081 Wrong! I let people pass and maintain my speed so they can do so. I don't speed up. Secondly, if you had read my post thoroughly, you would have learned that I was driving in a snowstorm. It was impossible to see the pull-offs, and because the road was icy, I had to drive slower than usual to keep from sliding all over and possibly sliding OFF the road and into the deep canyon we have around here. I see you are great at being judgmental without knowing all of the facts. There is little to say to folks like you, because many of them are closed minded and refuse to consider the circumstances of others. But, God bless you, anyway.

Speed is the biggest factor and at the speed limit you would be much safer in an newer truck and an much lower chance of injury do to the crumble zones and airbags. But one thing out of all those comments that was not said or brought up in any shape or form was how did this happen? Seriously how was this situation even possible? Inexperience may be. Over confident Maybe. Showing off Maybe. Lack of judgment maybe. Self centered maybe ignorance maybe . This is how I see this all being able to be carry out with the possibility and the opportunity that this could even be carried out. YOU READY FOR THIS ONE???? PROBABLY NOT! You know why? This was all possible thanks to your law enforcement ! Your cops! Yep that's right! The cops ! This is and should be the ones responsible for an accident like this to happen ! This wasn't this guy's first time going fast. This wasn't his 20th time going this fast. I guarantee this wasn't his first time getting away with speeding. He's probably gotten away with it a lot . The cops need to stop making excuses why they don't stop people for speeding oh there's no room on the side of the highway or it's too busy out there we would cause a distraction or this or that all they do is come up with excuses of why they are not enforcing traffic laws and doing traffic Patrols as much as they should be. This could have all been avoided if this guy had been stopped before this had happened yeah everybody's going to say well the cops can't be everywhere all at once yeah but where they are they're not doing their jobs a lot of the times I see speeding lack of judgment overconfidence and lawbreaking passing in no passing all day everyday but what I don't see are the cops I do anywhere from 3 to 400 Mi a day and out of those three or four hundred or 500 Mi a day I've seen maybe five or six cops and that's everyday sometimes I don't even see any the whole day long yeah they probably have a hard job they're part of their job is kind of hard I'm not giving them their due respect yes I am I respect the cops and I don't have any tickets I've never been in an accident that was my fault I've had my driver's license since I was 17 and I'm 53 now I've been a truck driver for 15 years and thank God I've never been a witness to or seen an accident of this level in all the 15 years that I've been driving I've seen probably maybe five accidents actually happened right in front of me lots of accidents that could have been avoided but what I do see a lot every single day all day long is people staring at their phones while they're driving texting at stoplights running through red lights speeding passing in no passing zones . passing when it's not safe to do so. When you see a bad driver just let it go call it in don't just ignore it. We need to make a stand. Bad drivers need to be held accountable. Don't just ignore somebody cutting you off start memorizing Plat numbers plate numbers give the vehicle discrimination who belongs to it and the state its from. When you call it in give at the very least the plate number.. LETS MAKE THIX TRAGEDY A LEARNING EXPERIENCE A LESSON START MAKEING A DIFFERENCE WE ALL CAN STOP NONCENCE LIKE THIS! IF this guy was stopped in the past and was made to change the way he drives, he would be alive today... But he wasn't afforded that opportunity. WE CAN CHANGE THIS NERITIVE LETS MAKE THIS CHANGE . CAN WE? CAN WE ALL STAND TOGETER AND AT LEAST TRY... IF WE DO, LIVES WILL BE CHANGED FOR THE GOOD,, THANK YOU IF YOU READ THIS AND I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND WHERE IAM COMING FROM.. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

My Uncle was in a roof tar truck that was hit by a train and passed. I was very little. I don't remember my Uncle very much but I remember his beautiful young family and the sadness being really thick in the air. These accidents cause so much heartache please be so careful. Vehicles are made of metal and weigh TONS and mostly do what we tell them to do. They can't say, oh I'm not going to hurt these lovely people. So many crosses on the road sides. Each one is a family's pain and loss. Most are so young , and had so much life they didn't get to live. It is something I think of each time I get in a vehicle of any kind. I hope no one suffered and the survivors could make some kind of peace and recovery. I send them all my love and prayers each time I see these videos, pass a cross or a wreck. ❤ 🙏

Manuel Alejandro Gonzalez, a 34-year-old resident of Chaparral, New Mexico, was killed after his Ford Raptor traveling at a high speed ran a red light at the intersection. Gonzalez's passenger Melissa Tristan, a 36-year-old Socorro resident, was injured in the crash. Police say that a 2023 Purple Kenworthy, driven by El Pasoan Esteban Rios, 51, and a Silver Mac LTT tanker truck were on the northbound lanes of the Gateway making a left turn when Gonzalez entered the intersection heading east on Kenworthy and crashed into the tanker.

I am a retired Homeowner insurance adjuster/estimator and after the 2007 San Diego wildfire I was sent down there right after the fire to meet with Homeowners who had lost everything. My job was to be the first face to face contact for the carrier to explain coverages and the claims process and answer questions. It was a rough week to say the least. I had previously worked with a lot of Homeowners after major losses but this was a different level. Being there at ground zero was surreal. It looked like the neighborhoods had been hit by an atomic bomb.

My fathers a retired firefighter and he has told me a plethora of stories but mainly told me about how bad the scene is when the mangled passengers arent dead. He said “its real bad when theyre legs are wrapped and mangled up underneath the seat and you have an eye hanging down to your chin” he said the uncontrollable screaming would stick in his head because theres absolutely no calming them down at that point. He used these as a scare tactic bc i had bought a fast car and he fucking hated the idea of me being in that situation. First responders will definitely have some form of ptsd and you never really think someone can see all that shit and just be back at home hanging out with you.
