Thats GHD for ya. ;) Pretty good cars these were though. I used to own a 2.0i back in the day. Drove a few 2.8' company cars back in those days too. Great cruiser back then for the money.
Loving the bricks loaded out right on the edge of the pavement by the vest wearing brickie as Frank drives past. Ah the 80's, when nobody gave a shit 😁
One of the first truly reliable Fords. My father put over 240,000 miles on a 2.0 Mk3 with very few problems. The Cortinas he used previously were almost worn out by 100,000 miles.
@@whatsreallygoingon253 Try telling that to owners of the latest Focus RS or had the DMF go on a MK3 Monedeo TDCI or a failed Power Shift gearbox ... I could go on but you get the idea. Fords have average reliability these days. If you want car you can depend on get a Toyota or Honda.
I had the 2L GLi model 199.000 miles with only the alternator failing. Gave the car away due to owning a van. Later got my hands on a 2.4 V6 which was good till I was blown away with a Cosworth version, which I still own.
@@Flozman1982 Not a surprise, the mechanics of 80s cars were greatly improved. But the body was still a weak point. My current car is 16 years old & no major rust on it.
This was a nice looking car and very useful, Jackie got the best one! Pity the next generation Scorpio was such a shocker in the looks department, even with a bit of Cosworth under the bonnet
Agreed. It wasn't a bad barge under the skin but it looked bloody awful. Who on earth signed off on it? By the time they were 5 years old they were worth pennies because they looked so bad.
I’m older than my years. 32 and I’ve had 6 and currently a Dorchester limo variant. Favourite car of all time. Comparing it with cars of its day it’s held up very well
MrChoochoo the 80’s and 90’s had some very iconic fords. Miss them days. I’ve never driven a Scorpio, only sierras, escorts and fiestas. But I’ve always liked the look of the Scorpio. I haven’t seen one on the road for a long time now.
Jackie should be in a Cosworth hammering the hell out of it being chased by the rozzers that would be much better! Imagine putting a Formula 1 world champion into a new car and his aim is just to be sensible and bore the pants of everyone.
I'm 7 mins into this very informative , well made and enjoyable slice of 80s motoring nostalgia . And all I can think about is Frank Bough and his cocaine + prostitute parties . I bet once he gets to his hotel he'll strip down to a leopard print thong , be rolling up a £50 note and order in a couple of very obliging Thai ladies .
Looks like an bloated Sapphire. Although the Scorpio Granada’s were loaded with extras. Lots of those areas in Edinburgh are non car zones now - time flies lol!
I had the 1988 2.9 v6 4x4 Scorpio in 1991 , epic car ,loved it . Comfortable mile muncher, but it did have some expensive problems , recurrent steering rack leaks were the final straw .
It was still "Ford Granada" in '88, Scorpio being the spec. above Ghia but Ford often referred to it as Ford Scorpio (e.g. in the brochure of this year) but they all had Granada badges on the back and on the log book.
Thats because the british dont react well to change. In the rest of europe these were called scorpio. The last cavalier was already called vectra on the mainland.
@@alphatrion100 Considering the British invented the computer, the train, the industrial revolution, it's probably unfair to say "the british dont react well to change". The 1979 Opal Kadett was already called Astra in UK, so your reasoning fails.
@@lewis72 Yeah but that was all a long time ago. Overall you guys are pretty traditional dont you think? Why else would you keep around an old name like that?
@@alphatrion100 Traditional in some things, less so in others. Music and comedy has tended to be very innovative over the years. Monty Python was hardly traditional, was it ? Nor were the Sex Pistols.
@@lewis72 But you almost prove my point by bringing up examples from 40 years ago. Yes you guys were great in the 60's 70's and 80's. So much you like to pretend those times are not long gone. But the truth is you dont have that leading roll anymore. Hell you dont even wanna lead europe anymore.
My step dad as a car dealer had one of these in top spec like what matey boy here who had a party in the back with those plush leathers but much more such as Graphic equaliser had more than 4 or 5 (like shown here) bands it was more like 7 or 8. electric absolutely everything and I maybe having a false memory on this but you could "angle" the speakers for which there were not just 4 but probably 10 or so..no sub woofer but all standard... it was an auto. No idea on engine size (maybe 2.9) but it was powerful as hell (I was only 10 mind) - thirsty on the fuel as I remember my step dad moaning at this and had trouble selling it for good profit.... ive never seen another at that trim level since so if anyone knows which one im talking about let me know. Many thanks
Never had one......never wanted one......but 30 years later I want one now!! Ford at it peak I suppose.....now i hear they my pull out of Europe all together!😨
i remembersome years i use same car 2,0 Bensin in Germany, its whas good for family and to for long distance....because we some thimes have to life in Estonian because we have a farm in Estonia, and so i drive this way with 2 little children
Interesting detail. You don't see many of them around at all (2023), I still see the occasional SD1 and Volvo. There is a lot of affection in these comments for the Scorpio/Granada but I really cannot recall the last time I actually saw one (Scorpio version). As a young lad in the 80's, and I was into cars, I don't recall any longing or nice thoughts for it at all ! I've always felt more affection for the Mk1 and Mk2.
Man, that old bill has one heck of a hooter going on there O.o It was sad that the American's never got on with it the Merkur Scorpio and them 2.9's could easily outpace any of their V8's easily with the Cosworth ones able to top 150. Funny too the American's never liked the turbo version of our XR4i, man what an absolute stonker of a car just oozing Ford RS but nope America wasn't having it although they swore blind on Fox body cars not knowing it was in fact a British MK3 Escort with different exterior metals lol

@@lewis72 I nearly bought the 2.8 4x4 that was for sale on eBay the other week , but had to grit my teeth and let it go. , I can't have them all 😋 although I wish I could
@@StatusFIX I think I could have extended to £1k to buy that. It was 1 cyl. down though but I'm sure that wouldn't have been much. Mine was idling like a pig for some time. A new set of plugs and an air filter sorted it. Still need to give it a new dizzy & leads to improve it further.
Just keeping low safe from any big butch jowly beardymans just "passing" by in case chums of Franks with duct tape and tie wraps burning a hole in the old Harris, Plus the news of the world may have a tip on Frank and Jackie going cruising. Maybe better leave the tartan booster seat back in the Canton be on the safe side.
